An Arab is a person speaking Arabic as his native tongue. Sudanese are definitely Arab by that definition. Sudan has been under Egyptian influence/control since the 7th century, the same time Egypt was conquered by Arabs and Sudanese have since lost their pre-Islamic Nubian, Nilotic languages. Sudanese speak only Egyptian Arabic 100%. Museveni's point here is senseless. By your definition, English people are not Anglos, since Anglo Saxons were Germans and the English language is a Germanic language replacing the ancient Celtic languages (almost extinct). Whether they are black or brown doesn't matter. By the way, many are not quite black from what I see. But definitely they have black/sub Saharan African heritage, particularly the hair, body shape, skull shape, face, teeth etc. By Museveni's definition, Syrians, Lebanese, Palestinians, Iraqis, North Africans wouldn't be Arabs either because they all had now extinct languages, but no one believes they are not. There is some Berber identity among some Algerians and Moroccans who have preserved their Tamazight language but they exclusively speak Arabic at home. With Ethiopia likewise there is Kush like the Oromo and Tigre and Afar and karanle. They also have Jewish like Amara, also there is Arabs like Darood/Jabarti.
The President of Uganda is mistaken. There is no such thing as a homogeneous black race. We all come from different origins. For example, the Nubian, Cushitic (like the Beja, Somali, and Afar),Fulani and Tuareg are distinct both phenotypically and culturally from the Nilotic peoples like the Dinka, Nuer, Fur, Gambela, and Kwegu. Additionally, the sons and daughters of Arabs or nomads from the Middle East who came to Sudan and married indigenous Africans are Arabs and nothing more. They are Africanized Arabs, not Arabized Africans, and have a unique heritage and culture. They are also noticeably distinct phenotypically, if you have a keen eye, and they wish to preserve their unique identity just like the rest of us.To label them as ignorant, deny their unique identity, and impose a narrow identity upon them while painting their rich and diverse heritage in black and white is not only disrespectful but also harmful. Their vibrant culture encompasses a spectrum of languages, traditions, histories, and beliefs. Reducing it to a simplistic binary ignores its complexity and significance, leading to a distorted narrative that fuels division and tension instead of fostering understanding and unity. Respect for their heritage requires recognizing and celebrating its nuances, allowing them to define their identity on their terms. The term 'black' is an arbitrary label used by Westerners who are too lazy to learn about the diverse peoples of Africa. Only the ignorant use such a term, and like the President of Uganda, they trivialize the various Sudanese peoples by oversimplifying their identities. What a wonderful display of african diplomacy.
As a Sudanese, I've said this numerous times to people I've met around the world, Sudan is the most diverse country on earth, yet it's divided. Unfortunately, we've not learned to coexist with each other. You have Sudanese Arabs (considered black around the world) see darker Sudanese as inferior, they even call them slaves. I identify as black whose mother tongue is Arabic. I was born and raised in Darfur, where more than 300k people were killed during the civil war, I was a kid back then, some of my relatives and my innocent friend, who taught me how to play cards, were slaughtered in that war. My parents are very accepting and never cared or asked anyone about their tribe, I adopted this mindset growing up. I got lucky and traveled around the world, and because of my background, I hang out with Africans cuz I'm black, I hang out with Arabs cuz I speak the language, I hang out with Asians and Muslims cuz of Islam, I hang out with whites cuz I speak English. It's so wonderful to be accepting and see everyone as a human in just a different color.
An Arab in the linguistic sense is simply any peoples who speak Arabic e.g. Egyptians, Iraqis, Syrians, Sudanese (none of whom are ethnically Arab i.e. descended from the Adnan & Qahtan lineages). This creates significant confusion for those who are not aware of this distinction.
Going by that logic, Arabs Should Call themselves African.... Not vice versa. Indeed Africa is the mother of all humankind. ( Can you wake up now ???? )
Ahahaha doesn't make sense identifying yourself as an Arab when you are black is stupidity. Because the real so called Arabs segregate you are treat you differently from the so called white Arabs. Muhammad himself even said if anyone tries to call me a black man "kill him"
Ahahaha funny answer. Sudanese are a cross breed and black same with somalians nothing Arab about them. Common denominator is the Islamic religion imposed on them by Arab slave masters period!! They should be proud if their bla k ancestry!!
If you had Anglo-Saxon (or other indigenous) DNA that would make you English - Sudanese Arabs have proportionally more semitic DNA than Nilotic or Cushitic (or other ... Bantu, Niger-Congo, ...) - that makes them (as they call themselves) Sudanese Arabs. They are also culturally Arab.

Arab means someone who was born in Arab culture and speaks Arabic, he/she can be White, Brown or Black. Also, an Arab can be Muslim, or Christian or Jewish, or atheist. It is NOT a race. Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: What is your opinion on the call for nationalism which believes that belonging to a race or language takes precedence over belonging to a religion, and these groups claim that they do not oppose religion, but they give nationalism precedence over it. What is your opinion of this call? He replied: This is a jaahili call, and it is not permissible to join it or encourage those who promote it. Rather it must be put an end to, because Islamic sharee’ah opposes it and rejects it. We should refute their specious arguments and claims with that which makes the truth clear to those who seek it. Islam is the only thing that preserved Arabness in language, literature and culture. Rejecting Islam leads to destroying Arabness in language, literature and culture. Hence the daa’iyahs should strive their utmost to call people to Islam just as the colonialists are striving their utmost to destroy it. It is a well known principle of Islam, that no Muslim has any excuse for not knowing, that the call for Arab nationalism or any other kind of nationalism, is a false call, grave error and blatant evil; it is a bad jaahili attitude and a plot against Islam and its followers. That is due to many reasons that we have explained in a separate book entitled Naqd al-Qawmiyyah al-‘Arabiyyah ‘ala Daw’ al-Islam wa’l-Waaqi’ (Criticism of Arab Nationalism in the Light of Islam and Reality). Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Baaz (4/173). This book is published in its entirety in Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Baaz (1/280-318). The Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy on him) also said: One of the greatest of evils and follies is to compare Islam to Arab nationalism. Does nationalism that is devoid of Islam have any characteristics that qualify it to be counted among the ranks of Islam? Can there be any comparison between the two? Undoubtedly this is the gravest insult to Islam and a denial of its principles and wise teachings. How can any sound mind compare between nationalism and Islam when, if Abu Jahl, ‘Utbah ibn Rabee’ah, Shaybah ibn Rabee’ah and other enemies of Islam were alive, they would be among the most prominent supporters and greatest proponents of nationalism, whereas the proponents and supporters of Islam in every time and place are Muhammad the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab, ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan, ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib and other Sahaabah, the supporters and heroes of Islam, and those righteous people who followed their path? No one would justify comparing nationalism of this ilk, with these men as its supporters, and a religion of such standing, with such supporters and proponents, except one who is deranged, or is a blind follower, or a bitter enemy of Islam. The one who makes such a comparison is like one who compares dung and pearls, or Prophets and devils. The one with insight who ponders this and examines the facts closely, will clearly see that comparing nationalism and Islam is more dangerous to Islam that the comparisons mentioned above. Moreover, how can it be valid to compare nationalism, the fate of one who dies following which is Hell, and Islam, the destiny of one who dies following which is the victory of abiding close to the Lord in an abode of honour? O Allaah, guide us and our people to the Straight Path, for You are able to do all things. Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Baaz (1/320, 321). These are two useful answers from the Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy on him) about the comparison between Arab nationalism and Islam. The second answer contains the ruling on one who compares between them, and says that he is deranged or a blind follower or a bitter enemy of Islam. The one who knows nothing about the status of nationalism may be excused, But if a person is ignorant of Islam and believes that some other religion, system or principle is better than it, he is undoubtedly a kaafir. Thirdly: If we examine the second scenario, then we will see that the questioner has spoken ill of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) by making this comparison, and the respondent has spoken worse ill by answering this foolishness, which is kufr in and of itself, because it is undermining the status of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and speaking ill of him. What the Muslim must do is venerate his Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and support him, and protect him against everything that may offend him; he must also honour him and respect him. Allaah has stated that this is one of the characteristics of the believers, and He has enjoined it on the Muslims. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “So those who believe in him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur’aan) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful” [al-A’raaf 7:157] “Verily, We have sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) as a witness, as a bearer of glad tidings, and as a warner. 9. In order that you (O mankind) may believe in Allaah and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and that you assist and honour him (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and (that you) glorify (Allaah’s) praises morning and afternoon” [al-Fath 48:8,9]

In order to keep Arabia from aiding African countries in preventing European colonialism, French and Anglo-Saxon colonist introduce Anti-Arabism into African communities in order secure their imperialism over them. We know this to be true because Anti-Arab animosity didn’t begin until the 1900s, under French and Anglo-Saxon rule and was virtually non-existent prior. Anti-Arab and black African nationalism rhetoric are a byproduct of European settler colonialism, created to secure European imperialism over them.
I agree. I don't think the problem is "misuse of identity" but more like the post-colonial africans lack of understanding the importance of ethnic and religious identity. There's no way a neutral state with different ethnic and religious groups can survive. They tried it in Europe (Yugoslavia) and it simply didn't work unless you have significant unifying factor. Ethnicity and religion are two major stones that are used to build foundation for stable ethnic nation. Without that you will be more busy trying to keep that state together rather than developing it. Even Museveni himself appoints members of his own ethnicity in high government positions. Damn it why is it so hard for african to understand this?
@@showa546 Africans in large part don’t misunderstand this. This man is an authoritarian dictator Christian extremists who believes in killing people for being gay and likely introduced the use of child soldiers in this region. He’s insane.
Classic example of someone who hasn't got the point! You are still pointing out identity that is divisive. The speech isn't about Arabs against blacks.. but the case of insisting on identity and causing schism and division
those same people he is talking about cause wars chaos you cant have anything with chaos now in sudan they are almost eating each other i wounder how that arabisim is helping them now they have money to fund wars but no food
@@janendegwa5462 I don’t know what is going on in Sudan, but in Tanzania the oppressor are dark skin men. They take our freedom with gun ls , steal election and the budget .
@@Abs-tz8dl the problem is the religion they are following followers of that religion cant survive alone they have to fight to the death and enjoy taking funds for war not about thats what arabisim has turned them to war machines and yes are involved what did they come to do in africa anyway to enslave people thats why some people pretend to be arabs like tipu tipu so he can lie to himself he is superior and has the right to own others
He doesn't understand something all Muslims know. Our beloved Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, defined an Arab as any person having Arabic as mother tongue, regardless of race or ethnicity. So If a Black person has Arabic as their mother tongue, they are Arab.
They don't claim to be Arabs, they are Sudanese speaking Arabic as their mother tongue and medium of communication Mr. President. Now, are you British? You're addressing the public in English and you're Ugandan. See what I mean.
They are black people who suffer from Identity crisis. They were conquered by Arabs in the past were forced to convert to Arab religion Islam so centuries later their children imagine they are Arabs and that being an Arab is special
There are anglo indians, as afro Indians as there are, mulatto, as there are douglas ! Please discuss something more important such as getting rid of the slums in Africa keeping down your people. Build housing for them Last time I checked there were more than ten slums Africa is full of resources: minerals and cobalt, diamonds etc which your government is allowing other governments (the West) to flourish with God is great all the time and all the time God is great!!
He is not wise at all. He think every black people is African. This not true. The problem of this old men is he hurt Islam religious that why most of times he talks about Arabs.
@@VAswang Arab cultural invasion of under privileged regions of Africa and Asia. If you look at the history of Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan it will be evident. Though Pakistan is moving steadily into Turkish field of influence... Reasons are obvious
@@SpadinaSt 😂Wherever the Arabs went in Africa those regions became the privileged regions of Africa and dominated others. Most of culture (books, architecture, ... ) came to Africa by way of the Arabs before the Europeans. Many Bantu Languages borrow Arabic words - one supposed "Bantu Language" Kiswahili had the majority of it's vocabulary in the (root) Kiunguja dialect as Omani Arabic in the 1800s. Vast regions of Africa were dominated by Arabic and Arab-adjacent Tribes/Cultures in the last millenia.
@@frankyyaggabot6222Yup Arabs were the first foreign colonizers to come to Africa. More Africans need to realize Europeans weren’t the only foreign adversaries to plague the continent.
Sudanese and Somalis aren't Arabs at all. They are 100% tropical and equatorial Africans. they have NO connection to the Ishmaelite Arabs of north Africa and middle east. Somalis share a DNA similar to the Great lakes of African inhabitants.
Get your facts right. You are wrong. We are tribes live across both borders with Sudan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. My wife’s tribe extends between Somalia and Yemen and Oman. I am Muslim and the Sematic ethnicity or race thing is not in my culture or religion. We don’t believe in it.
@@markogayle4101 you might be Muslim, but you ain't Arab. Somalis are Tropical/equatorial black Africans. Somalis are the same people who are in Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya, and eastern Tanzania.

The Western countries tried to do that to the Chinese people. They refuse to accept Chairman Mao as the leader of China , wanting a Chritianised Chinese like Chiang Kai Shek to rule and placed an embargo on trade .That caused massive poverty and starvation resulting in what is belived 20 to 30 million deaths. The Chinese people are around since the dawn of human civilisation with our own belief system of Heaven(god to others), Earth and Humans( Teachers or Guides to us and Prophets to others).I believe traditional African believe systems would be similar.
You are wrong Sir. Arab doesn't mean colour. It means nations that speak Arabic as their first language. Just like Europe it's not based on Land but based on a joining or being a part of union just like the soviet. A person can be based in African Contenant and yet be part of the Arab union because of their language.
Really - what about the massacre of Manchu and subsequent massacre of Hakka and Cantonese that occurred by them and their Han allies (Manchu and Han who were supported by Europeans) at the turn of the last Century. The starvation of Chinese during the cultural revolution was solely attributed to the policies of Mao. Are you here to rewrite Chinese History? The Chinese people (like the African people) have never been a monolith and have had many internal conflicts that have caused the deaths of millions. You can't rewrite History to fit with the innate prejudices and world-view you have internalised in your head (even though good communist/socialist-cadres are trained to do that all the time).

If Mr Museveni does what he is speaking Uganda would have been better than USA.look at the tribalism in all Uganda organs: President:West, police:west, updf:west,Ura:west, prison:west etc and prime minister is also coming from west
The ancient berbers that invaded Sicily were BLACK Africans, not Arab. They were described as "Ethiopian" in their facial features, and this was before the birth of Muhammad and Islam. History has disrespected the black man enough
To be an Arab it doesn't depend your color. Arab is not DNA. There's no father or forefathers who called them Arab. Arabism is culture, customs, language etc. If you have same culture, custom, and language with the rest of Arabs, then you are Arab. When we use this logic, the Sudanese are Arab.
Sudan is an Arab state. its Arab culturally and liguistically and btw there are also Sudanese Arabs who are not darkskinned For example Mr Ghazi salahuddine the former advisor to President Bashir.
