" WHAT IS AN AUTHOR ".. by "MICHAEL FOUCAULT " in 1969. Is a lecture on literary theory given at the society francase de philosopher, sociologist and historian michel Foucault. The author is a certain functional principle by which, in our culture, one limits excludes and chooses the author is there for the ideological figure by which one marks the manner in which we fear the proliferation of meaning.

What is an author? is the title of a lecture given by the philosopher Michel Foucault to the French Society of Philosophy in 1969. The lecture is an extension of the same topic that Foucault develops in his book Archeology of Knowledge, published shortly thereafter. In the lecture, Foucault seeks to examine what is the role of the author's function in relation to the text, and what is its role in the way organization, classification and evaluation of texts.

ROLAND BARTHES PROCLAIMED "THE DEATH OF THE AUTHOR" [ 1969 ]. The death of author is 1967eassy by the French literary critic and the theorist roland barthes [1915-1980 ]. Barthes's essay argues against traditional literary criticism's practice of relying on the intention and biography of in ' Ultimate Meaning' of the text. Instead, the eassay emphasizes the primacy of each individual reader's interpretation of the work over any "Definative" meaning intended by the author a process in which subtle or unnoticed charactertics may be drawn out for new insight . The essay's first English -Language publication was in the American journal Aspen. No-5-6 in 1967, the French. Debut was in the magazine mentria. No. 5 [ 1998 ]. The essay later appeared in anthology of barthes eaaays inage-music-text(1977). A book that also included "from work to text.

Beat movement, also called Beat Generation, American social and literary movement originating in the 1950s and centred in the bohemian artist communities of San Francisco’s North Beach, Los Angeles’ Venice West, and New York City’s Greenwich Village. Its adherents, self-styled as “beat” (originally meaning “weary,” but later also connoting a musical sense, a “beatific” spirituality, and other meanings) and derisively called “beatniks,” expressed their alienation from conventional, or “square,” society by adopting a style of dress, manners, and “hip” vocabulary borrowed from jazz musicians. They advocated personal release, purification, and illumination through the heightened sensory awareness that might be induced by drugs, jazz, sex, or the disciplines of Zen Buddhism. The Beats and their advocates found the joylessness and purposelessness of modern society sufficient justification for both withdrawal and protest.
