I've had the "V-Express" sitting in its box for over 2 years since my girlfriend bought it for me as a Christmas present. With lockdown due to Coronavirus, I needed something to do. So, I started building it. What an amazing and fulfilling experiece. I've never constructed anything like this before that actually works. I'm amazed at myself. I'm amazed that the people at Ugears can possibly design anything like this - and from wood! Thank You, sincerely. I'm a fan now, and I'll buy and construct more and more.
Absolutely outstanding. The way everything is so perfectly engineered and manufactured to function. You'd almost think it were CGI, but then you're reminded that somehow somebody out there is just that damn good at their craft. It's almost magic.
I'm gonna have to breakout this playlist while building my next Ugear. My wife and I finally got the antique box last week for our daughter and are in the process of assembling it. One of my favorite ones so far! I think we might try the aero clock for our next build!

It is pretty cool, old technology given a modern twist that almost anyone can build. Before video games, kids and adults built models for entertainment and education. I recall snapping all the pieces together and then painting them carefully.

If you visit the site and are looking for a real challenge I suggest the STEM line. They are even more amazing than these. I stumbled across this site looking for a project to keep me off my computer. Recent studies have shown that an aging brain will be less likely to deteriorate if used in various ways including complex processes like hobbies that require thought and the use of your hands use more of our brains capacity than merely researching on the web. As I spend hours researching I looked for complex puzzles and found this company which I was pleased to learn was a Ukrainian Start-up in 2014. So if you order you'll get a blue and yellow button mixed in with the packaging material. They are a challenge and great fun as well. When I finish the second one I ordered I plan on buy from the STEM line.

build an programable "chip" once with lego. It worked by placing gear racks on a plate, and than put it in the crane. The most right gear rack was used to pull it trough the machine. the 2 to the left of it for function 1 foreward and in reverse. the 2 next to that for function 2 and so on.
These models are extraordinary how they make them and how much the latitude is and how much they cost and how much possibility you can do and what you can do with that

The Ugears tuning video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kSW6DZkpIZA.html shows it being tuned to the 2nd D above middle C. This requires a great deal of tension in the string, increasing the drag on the wheel and creak in the gears. The noise was drowning out the notes and required vigorous cranking to reach 'cruising speed'. This should settle down in time but even the Ugears tuning video demonstrates quite a high noise to note ratio. Gears suggest tuning to D, in which case the keys produce the 6 notes of D Major with open string is the root of the scale. Retuning will produce the respective Manor scale. Each minor scale has a major counterpart so it's not a limited instrument. The ends of the keys can be tweaked to improve the accuracy of their note when your strings have settled and you've settled on your strings. Replacing one length of Ugears fishing line (their words and a traditional solution) with a ukulele string quickly gave a sweeter tone. The Hurdy-Gurdy has a 12 inch scale length compared to the uke's 14 inches. A 'C' string can be used as a the Bourdon (drone) string and tuned to D above middle C. This string provides some scope for harmonics. This will produce a steady note with a slower and quieter cruising speed, and the crank speed, and thus drone, can be subtly emphasised. It can be retuned to the 3rd, 4th or 5th note of a cable to produce a harmony with the melody string. The note is quieter but it is a good practice level. As strings ease you can hopefully adjust the tension and increase the volume with less creak. Attaining the 2nd D above middle C on the melody string was uncomfortable and loud and I experimented with a number of strings. I learnt much and decided to give up on it as I think wasn't allowed to play it that high and loud. Your best bet night be to try a uke 'A' strings, or a maybe a piccolo (mini) uke E String. For the melody I'm now using a uke 'E' string tuned to D above middle C, which is a very close fit quickly given a smoother tone in low gear. The higher you tune the 2 strings the more tension, drag and risk rattling. You should get better setting strings height with experience and as the strings give a bit. *********************** Feel free to contact us for any support.
