With that starting 11, this is what happens, after the January and summer transfers why are we still starting with Bednerak, Ely, Diallo, when we have better options on the bench. Can the team please spend next week working on passing and ball retention? Let's improve on the basics and take it from there.
Right, let me try and explain a few things as a Saints fan (blame my Dad!) of over 40 years, an ex-player to a decent-ish level up here in the Midlands, and a language tutor who has seen first hand how a Premier league manager goes about his job (I've worked in-house at several top flight teams with foreign coaching staff, helping with their English). 1. No manager can do much without a decent spine on the pitch (Keeper, CB, CM, Striker). Look at ours at the moment: A 20-year-old shy, inexperienced, relatively small keeper, who loses out at corners or crosses most of the time, No clear leader in defence (Salisu & BK are too young and both incredibly left-footed, Bednarek is slower than the Titanic, Caleta-Car seemingly too quiet? and Lyanco too much of a liability), A brilliant young signing in Lavia, but did his hamstring in his first start, and quite rightly can't push his body on his return - that's just bad luck, and he's only 20 or 21, so unable to boss the team to the extent that his talent would imply, Diallo who is so unsure of himself and plays that way, and JWP who was never a central midfielder in the first place. This isn't enough depth for CM. The strikers have been starved for too long (under Hasenball) and lost all confidence - plus lack of height has been an impediment to us as an option up there. Sometimes you do need a big presence up top in games. 2. The previous manager managed on a shoe-string - almost no investment over 4 years and so did well, but created a VERY defensive pattern of play. The board should have reacted last summer but tried to be loyal - that also deserves respect. That defensive, lateral passing, no forward running mindset is taking time to change. As Jones is making clear in his interviews. 3. We have too many passengers in the squad (Walcott's contract makes my blood boil - he betrayed us as a kid by leaving for Arsenal before we benefitted from years of training, and then comes back to take home 70k a week with one-in-a-blue-moon appearances that I could do now at 47 in my slippers!) - and too many 'flappers' like Djneppo, Edozie, Elyounoussi, Armstrong, who are jacks of some trades and masters of none - I'd only keep Armstrong of that lot, and get rid. 4. We have a WORLD BEATING youth squad - don't forget we pushed Man City to the wire last year. The fact that Morgan has been let go to Chelsea and Dibling/Pearce/Ballard aren't getting any chances with our first team is so sad, as I remember the likes of Rod Wallace and Shearer starting for us at 17. USE THE TALENT SAINTS!!! It also raises the game of the older players, too! 5. Taking over halfway through a season is hard for any manager, but add the World Cup pause to it, then it's a real challenge - Jones had three CB's missing, so he couldn't drill the defence properly. Yes, look at Dyche's first game for Everton - but Dyche is a very experienced PL manager - give Jones time.
I'm a Luton fan and this is the only reasonable thought out post from any Saints fan....the rest of you are deluded !!! You are Southampton not bloody Real Madrid....get real. Jones is the right man to build a high quality squad of young players into a strong team. If you want to play rubbish defensive football, then bring Ralph back and get relegated anyway.Jones admittedly doesnt help himself by being too outspoken....either take a long view and accept maybe going down to rebuild on a small budget or sack Jones and get someone else in .....it wont make any difference ! COYH...we are flying !
@@marchughes2461 as a brentford fan and having watched the game and listened to his mad press conference jones has admitted he isn't l managing the team the job is too big for him
I don't understand the comments about being defensive under Ralph, we scored in almost every game under him. We were also good to watch, a lot of neutrals said so. Infact we were tops for missing chances under Ralph, how many times he bemoaned the finishing once Ings left. Ralph built a really good team that was lacking a top striker, the club didn't back him when they should have.
@@dannymurphy1779 Ralph was a lovely bloke, no denying that, and worked very hard. The stats do lie though, here, as 'chances', according to stats, include countless shots from hopeless positions. I'd watch games we had no chance of winning and see '62% possession' and '14 shots on goal' and think....'but we weren't in it at all!' And imo we weren't good to watch, most of the time, as we squandered possession time and again by turning back and playing tika taka around the middle of our half. And relentlessly floating crosses across a defence that had all the time in the world to get set, knowing we'd score one out of every 40 crosses. Awful. Maybe you weren't lucky enough to see the really exciting Saints teams of the past....Agree with you on missing a demon like Ings, but honestly his hyena-like play papered over so many cracks in Hasenball! Any decent coach worked us out and that was because the players and system were so 'automated'.
@@chrisburns7979 Fair point..Its the right set up at the wrong time for Jones. He jumped too soon to Southampton and to Stoke before that. He is a very good manager ....but he had the luxury of everyone at "little" Luton buying into the philosphy....down the bottom of the Premier is a different story
Not surprised by the result. Don't know why bednarek started and why diallo started. How does Walcott still get on the pitch. But a positive is another vlog from the best fan channel around. (Would also love to hop on a stream at some point) COYR
Brentford fan here, absolutely astounded by the post match comments from Jones. Totally understand all the negative sentiment towards him. Hope you stay up over Leeds
Just cannot for the life of me get behind Nathan Jones. Why on earth did the board hire him, there were so many options to choose from and we’ve gone for this absolute donkey. It’s actually heartbreaking
The board appointed him so they must take the blame as too must the manger and his coaching staff. The board got Jones on the cheap and they know this. The board - a consortium have no interest in SFC. They will just sell our key squad players if relegated, take the proceeds and move on by selling the club.
Jones simply just isn't a pl standard manager he needs to go and the way he speaks after games should make the board move quickly to find a new manager. Rasmas and semens just need to hold there hand up accept they made a mistake and sack him. As for the players the seem very dee motivated. My starting 11 today would've been bazunu, bree(assuming kwp injured),salisu, abk, perraud, lavia, jwp, edozie, aribo, che and onuachu (Would have also ben happy to see sulemana start).
The passing was unacceptably average at this level and no-one ever up the pitch to be a threat. I can’t for the life of me know why our strikers play a defensive role when we have 6 players in defensive positions. They need to stay up the pitch and cause problems for the defence and look for channels to run. In transition, there’s no out ball and no one up top to pass to. Attack is absolutely toothless. Diallo had an absolute shocker as well. He’s a decent ball runner, but he’s passing, for a midfielder, rubbish. We just have to throw all in there now, nothing really to lose, we’ve made the signings, let’s play them.
I'm a Newcastle fan and in the last video they clearly announced they hoped we would lose the final against Manchester United. Then backtracked when they received lots of comments. Can't agree. They can make equally good videos in the championship for me
Thanks for your Really Decent Comments!, but We're so Down!. There's Just no Spirit, Direction, & Crucially, Quality!. Nathan Jones, just the Worst Saints Manager, and we've had some really Crap one's!. He Loves to throw Everyone under the Bus!. No Self Accountability, Cannot take Advice or Ownership, of literally Anything!. Always Everyone Else's Fault!. Club wanted a much Cheaper Manager than Hassenhuttl, we could have got Sean Dyche, and well the Rest is History!. Championship will be really tough, unless this Club has a Massive Overhaul, from the Top / Down!.
As a Brighton fan, I like jones, as he was one of ours. I like to see him do well, was hoping he'd do alright for u guys. But I'm clueless about his interviews, don't know what he's on about. Not surprised the team hasn't a clue what he's on about. Hopefully u guys stay up
I'm wholly confident that this is the season we will succumb to relegation. It's practically inevitable now. Jones is out of his depth and this squad has been shite for far too long. Hope I'm wrong. At least we'll actually win some games in the Championship, right?
This southampton team is the best team in europe right now, they should of won this game 5-0 since they had 5 shots on target. Brentford looked washed but still won 3-0 makes no sense but anyways we are still 3 points clear top of the league , so up the saints, Nathan Jones is a legend he should have a statue outside ST Mary's what a man what a legend and hopefully we can lift that national league title in 10 seasons ,up the saints.
In my opinion the best Saints team always had Livramento, Walker-Peters, JWP, Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams in. The problem since Broja left is we don't have an out ball, now these better players are missing the passing has gone to pot. Jones wants us to be tough and aggressive but this group were always a press and possession side. The problem yesterday is Brentford had too much of the ball and Saints ended up in a lot of individual battles. That is not our game! Under Ralph we kept high, pressed and attacked, or sometimes kept the ball for long spells passing it around. I don't see how we are going to win games unless we push the defence up, press and try and make a goal.
if i had a voice to listen to [ final word on things saints ] I would've stopped the transfer of "James Bree." [ Villa had the kid in the championship & soon loaned him out ... } No progression from 2017 - 2020 ish... did okay for Luton. but noway premier league quality... I wouldn't have appointed "Nathan Jones" either. i can't see Saints surviving now. they look done & their heads are facing the floor. The safety mountain is looking very high & very steep now. i predicted 3-0. UTV
Seemed like Jones was playing for a draw. Not much going forward and there was a fair bit of time wasting in the first half. Just a very negative set up perhaps relying on a goal from a set piece. Brentford looked to have set up in a 4-3-3 rather than their usual 3-5-2 knowing they'd have the bulk of the ball and could let their attacking quality shine. Jones really needs to do a lot better. I hope today is a lesson for him.
Sadly I agree. I always had that 'well it's only half way through the season, still time to turn it around.' but after that performance, especially the first half...not looking good
Can't believe we got this guy over shaun Dyce... SACK MARTIN SIMMONS! this guy wow, Hes a bag of nerves, baiting Nails, picking ears, get rid it's obvious he can't keep us up OBVIOUS!!!!!! Also just a note on our Keeper, useless, can't catch, can't command his area, is McCarthy still around??? We pay his wages...
Them top 6 finishes and trips across Europe got the Southampton fans deluded, not realising that they're in that group of clubs who'll have a solid decade in the Premier League but then eventually run out of luck with recruitment and get relegated. Unfortunately, unless you're one of the elite clubs, you need to appreciate every season in the EPL.
Luton fan here again, your statement at the end is telling, in away games in the Championship, his one tactic, was to get to half time without conceding, and then nick a goal in the second half. If Luton conceded first, in an away game, under Jones,we lost... that goes back a season and a half.. Rob Edwards , has come in , we have improved massively, he has already achieved in less than a dozen games, things that Jones didn’t ever achieve... Winning from behind (away) twice 3 wins out of 3 over Christmas Winning at QPR Beating Stoke at home His level is not the Premiership, and playing Bree instead of KWP is unfortunately a sign of his tendency to use players who are his favourites. The time to worry is when Bree starts taking free kicks instead of JWP, that for me is Southampton preparing for the Championship...
We can only thank Southampton for taking NJ away from us. The fact the Luton Board let Southampton talk to NJ shows you that he had faded. NJ has no idea of how to manage a Premier Team and was starting to struggle with Luton. He has no in game management skill as his record shows. He plays favourites. Sorry but with NJ in charge. It is certain relegation.
Sorry but we are going down. Let’s just accept the obvious now. Bazunu much too young to be our no 1. Where is Aribo? He’s quality get him on the pitch. Walcott, Diallo, Che Adams… just why!? They all need to go. Jones hasn’t worked. If we lose to Wolves he needs to go. Dychey would of kept us up!
I didn’t renew my season ticket at the end of last year because of the utter shit they served last season. This season is even worse. Management are clueless. Jones and the board have to go. Bring back Nicola Cortese and Pochettino
I actually wanted him to do well looking at his background and what he's done n luton hold him in high regards, but seen way he goes on like nothing his faul can't back him no more shut he cone out with today topped it off 🤦🏻♂️
Look on the brightside... when you go to the Championship... you'll be the best pound for pound in Europe. at least Mr jones is like you lot... #Biased #Deluded #Down
The guy had made us a laughing stock to the footballing world Luton and himself the best Europe statistically ! If your going to Fans forum fans need to speak up Nathan has brung his blue print from stoke and we can’t have it !!!!
As an Everton fan this has cheered me up. Was gutted when we missed out on that sulumana and ouanacho. I hope they end up being shite and relegate you😊
Sounds like someone is still a bit salty because his team lost to Southampton a few weeks ago. Chin up pal can have a go next season in the championship when you get relegated as well
@BIG JOCK KNEW I’m an oldham fan pal just stating facts they’re both getting relegated. Next time try not to assume something before you comment. Also Southampton beat city don’t mean they’ve got enough to stay up same as Everton and their toxic support
cant believe how Southampton are rock bottom i mean seriously arent Southampton meant to be 1 of the best teams atleast in recent years especially when it comes to playing against the big teams especially man city in particular?
Judas Jones still believes that he made Luton Town. He doesn't get that Luton made him. TWICE now he's jumped ship mid-season leaving us with problems. He's not welcome back at Kenilworth Road again. Snake.
JONES OUT!!!!!! Anyway...the CLUB WORLD CUP hosted by Morocco with 6 clubs involved. Auckland, Seattle, Flamenco, Real Madrid and three north saharan clubs somehow playing at the tournament whose winners are crowned BEST IN THE WORLD. Al Hilal, Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca playing in this tournament is okay because????
