Ancient Lithuanian war song "Per tiltą jojau" (I was riding throught the bridge) performed by Lithuanian band Ugniavijas.
This is a live acoustic performance from the band's concert in November 2018 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Lithuanian and English lyrics provided below.
We thank the RU-vid channel @Aestia for the original version of this video published in their channel.
Dainos žodžiai:
: Per tiltą jojau, nuo žirgo puoliau
Ir su priešais kariavau. :
: Sužeidė muna kojas, rankeles
Ir aptemo veidelis. :
: Aš išgulėjau tris savaitėles -
Nieks manį nežinoji. :
: Tiktai žinojo vien šviesi saulelė
Ir šviesus mėnesėlis. :
: O ir atlėkė trys raibos gegelės
Ir nutūpė šalalėj. :
: Viena nutūpė prieg mano kojelių
O antra prie šalalės. :
: O ši trečioji raiboji gegelė
Tai prie mano galvelės. :
Katra nutūpė prieg mano kojelių -
Tai ta mano mergelė,
Katra nutūpė prieg mano šalelės -
Tai ta mano sesulė.
: O ši trečioji raiboji gegelė
Tai ta sena močiutė. :
: Verkė mergelė tris savaitėles,
O seselė tris metelius. :
: O ši motinėlė, ši augintojėlė -
Visą savo amželį. :
English lyrics:
: I was riding through the bridge,
I fell of the horse
And I was fighting the enemies. :
: My legs and arms were wounded
And my face became cloudy. :
: I was lying for three weeks -
Nobody knew about me. :
: Only the bright sun knew, and the bright moon. :
: Oh, and the three speckled cuckoo's came flying
And landed near me. :
: One landed by my legs, the second one - by my side. :
: And the third speckled cuckoo - by my head. :
The one, which landed by my legs - that one is my maid,
The one, which landed by my side - that one is my sister.
: And the third speckled cuckoo, that one is my old mother. :
: The maiden was weeping for three weeks, The sister - for three years. :
: And the mother, the up-bringer - for the rest of her days. :

Simply amazing! Salutations from Bulgaria. And the little girl singing in the background makes this version even more beautiful than the album version

Everything about this song is great. The tone it's sang, the instruments, the melancholic lyrics. It's incredible. Definitely one of my favorite songs from you guys. The rythm of the song somewhat reminds me of a few religious songs from my own homeland (Greetings from Brazil, by the way!) and it brings some good childhood memories.

I was curious about the lyrics, wonderful song 👏 I'll be waiting for the 2023's Spotify Wrapped. As the biggest fan of Ugniavijas, I believe this will be my top 1 song this year.

This sounds like a Christmas song. Or angels singing

It is actually about a soldier who has fallen and about his family mourning for him. We've included English lyrics in the description of the video if you have a minute.

In one part I hear difference between lirics you sing and the written one. In strophe which begins with: »O ir atlėkė …« is the second verse in the written vrsion: »Ir nutūpė šalalėj«, but you sing other words. Agrees the translation with words you sing or with the written lirics?I realy enjoy old songs, they are often simple but deep and beautiful. It's interesting to compare this song whith Žvinga, žvinga; in Per tiltą jojau the girl weeps only three weeks, mother for the rest of her days, but in Žvinga, žvinga mother dosen't want to sell couple cows to save her son, while the girl sacrifaces her golden ring for her sweethart. Differernt songs tell different stories, show different destenis, many songs together can show the world. With singing and translating ancinet Lithuanien songs you share with us part of old Lihtuania. Thank you. You do good job.

We are sorry for the differences - there are many variations of the same song available, so there is no correct answer to your question. It is even possible, that we sing it differently each time :D

I think the line you are asking about is "O ir atlėkė trys raibos gegelės, iš žaliosios girelės"

Skamba taip pusiau žemaitiškai, pusiau aukštaitiškai, iš kur ši daina?
@Ugniavijas
@Ugniavijas 4 года назад
Dance With Me Then Ši daina labai populiari, paplitusi visoje Lietuvoje. Įvairių šaltinių duomenimis užrašyta 800-1000 kartų. Šios dainos žodžių versijas užrašė L. Rėza, S. Stanevičius, L. Jucevičius, G. H. F. Nesselmannas, F. Kuršaitis, Ch. Bartschas ir kt. Mes dainuojame L. Rėzos užrašytą variantą, gal dėl to savotiškai "maišytai" skamba.
