I have something very similar. 0 degree under quilt 3 oz. over stuff. 10 degree top quilt (same color). LOVE THEM. Ditto what you said.

I got a 0-degree Bandit a couple weeks ago, which is a really nice quality quilt. I'm ready to go for the 0 UQ and the width issue was stalling me, great input on the width, adjustments etc, definitely getting a wide version.

Pete Hikensail I have a regular 44” wide underquilt from hammock gear and that provides more than enough coverage. That being said, having those 4 extra inches on my Zeppelin just makes me feel more “protected”. The great thing about companies like UGQ is they’ll work with you and help you along in the process!! Good luck! Nick

I was here for the review but having watch plenty now I noticed you were using the attachments wrong which is why you’re not getting the coverage you’d like on the ground. Rather than wrap the cord around your body wrap it around the pad, that way the quilt stays in place regardless of your movements. Mine is mainly for ground camping and from the reviews I’ve seen the pad attachments work great, I’ll soon find out for myself when it arrives though. 😎

You're right and I eventually learned the correct way to use the cordage. lol... It definitely helps!

Hey Nick! Thank you for the detailed look at both of these , I've decided to go with the Zeppelin for my Sparrow after discovering my 3 other UQ's do not work well with it and since its my most comfortable hammock I've decided its not just my summer hammock anymore Lol spring ,summer, fall and first part of winter it is now then for deep winter I have my Superior gear Hammock that is amazing as well. Thanks again been watching for a couple years now love your vids keep them coming buddy!

Thanks, I received my UQ during the initial covid shutdown and haven't looked at it since. My camping season is about to start and was hoping to see how to set it up. Yes, even in South Florida we do get cold temps and I also camp in Minnesota. Good video.

Those are some nice quilts! My set is from Loco Libre (which I love). But UGQ is the only other quilt vendor that interests me.

rweb82 I’ve heard Loco Libre does have some nice stuff also! If you’re looking for another set, definitely check out UGQ!

Loco Libre and UGQ seem to be the most generous with their down- with regards to how many oz they use for a specific temp rating, as compared to other manufacturers.
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
rweb82 I agree. Their quilts really do perform well when pushed to their rating. I’ll throw the Hammock Gear quilts into that camp also.

Very informative video, thank you for sharing! Do you find the 1/8 shock cord too tenacious which is a little bit uncomfortable?
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
Taiwan Hammocker 哈瑪客 if you’re someone who likes to get more diagonal, you will find that the 1/8” shock cord doesn’t “give” as easy as the 3/32”. You may find that you’re pushing against the quilt which could be uncomfortable. So there is a trade off between comfort vs. support. I don’t notice it on mine because I have those 4 additional inches of width, which gives me more room to move. I believe UGQ recommends the 1/8” on quilts rated 10°F or less. Thanks for the comment! Nick

Triple Nickel Outdoors Thank you for the reply! I did watch your video on standard width quilt on wide hammock and had same feeling as you did. Will consider wider quilts in the future. Tks again and keep uploading videos👍

UGQ offers a draft collar on the TQ. Is this something you considered? I’m sure if I need to add one. Nice vid, BTW!
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
Scott Heffron I don’t think it’s as much of a necessity as it is on the underquilt. It wasn’t something I considered and I haven’t noticed any issues not having one. Especially since the quilt does have a draw cord on the neck, which helps get a good seal. If you’re planning on getting a quilt rated to 0°F then it might be a good option, but for 20°F you should be ok without it! Thanks for watching! Nick

Nice video. I'm curious, how tall are you? I'm six feet and feel that an 84 inch top quilt is way too long for a hammock, unless I want to pull it up over my head (which I don't like doing).
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
Vince Gentile I’m 6’4”. I was debating on getting the 78” model, but on the specs page I saw that there was only a 1 1/2 oz. difference with the longer size so I erred on the side of caution. All things considered, I probably could’ve saved some weight in certain areas, but the extra coverage is nice. 👍

Love your vids, dunno if I'm doing it wrong but the way I use the sleeping pad bungee with my bandit is run the entire bungee around my sleeping pad (use the cord lock to tighten depending on pad width and height, leaving the toggles on the edges of the pad and toggle the quilt directly to the pad. It makes getting in a out a little harder (i remove the toggle on one side and put it back when im inside the quilt) but fixes the issue your having of the big side air gap when turning over in your sleep.
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
Jonathan Mullin The way you do it is probably the way it is designed to be used. I think the first time I used it I set it up like you, but the cord lock was digging into me!! Lol. So I put it around my body and I had more control over where to set it. But you’re right, I’d probably get better coverage if I kept it the other way. Hopefully I’ll be in my hammock so I won’t need it!! 😂😂👍👍 thanks for the comment Jonathan! Nick

ya I put cord lock under the pad. Agreed on the hammock part, Ill never use a tent again unless Im forced to!

Jonathan Mullin I had the cord lock on the underside too and still felt it!! Haha. I guess being a big dude has its drawbacks!! Lol. NO TENTS!

Thanks for the input related to the treated down. After your comment I read UGQ website about the down they use and their reasons for it. I also have a Winterdream tarp and it’s amazing! Great stuff over there! Thanks John! Nick

Thanks Nick, informative and entertaining! I am researching top quilts, getting ready to order one from UGQ or HG. Do you think I should be mindful of condensation, (you know, if I order a top-quilt that is too warm for the situation)?
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
cavtj1 it is a concern but you can vent it if it’s too warm (sticking a leg out, loosening your UQ, etc.). Try seeing what the average temps are in the area you’ll be using it in and see what temp. rating would serve you best! Good luck! Nick

Great video Nick!👍 Looking to buy the bandit with the insulated foot box. I’m told you lose 4 to 6 “ usable length with the sewn foot box so I guess a 78’ should equal to 72 usable length. Is this correct? What temperature rating is your underquilt & top quilt? Hope UGQ will have a Black Friday Sale 😏
@TripleNickelOutdoors
@TripleNickelOutdoors 5 лет назад
Rick Nadeau I’m not sure of the finished length, but on their website they recommend certain quilt sizes based on your height. So use that as a guide when choosing your length. This set is 20° and I’ve taken it passed that rating.
