CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When R.J. (Kevin McCarthy) misplaces his file, he blames Stanley (Michael Richards) and fires him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
UHF is the film debut of comedy rock satirist Weird Al Yankovic, who also co-wrote the screenplay. George Newman (Yankovic) and his friend Bob (David Bowe from The Cable Guy) are fired from their jobs at Burger World. So George decides to take over Channel 62, a failing local TV station that his uncle Harvey (Stanley Brock) won in a poker game. George turns it around into an overnight success after letting the janitor, Stanley Spadowski (Michael Richards from Seinfeld), host a kid's show. George then fills the broadcast day with bizarre programming, bringing the ratings up and saving the station. Soon, rival station CEO R.J. Fletcher (Kevin McCarthy) of Channel 8 threatens to sabotage the successful station, and George must come up with a way to save it. Only loosely constructed around this storyline, UHF is mostly a series of TV, movie, and music parodies strung together and played for cheap laughs. UHF also stars Victoria Jackson, Emo Philips, and Fran Drescher.

There's this great blink-and-you-miss-it joke at 1:11. For a split second, he thinks he's had the door slammed in his face and he turns and starts cursing under his breath, thinking that he's walking away from the door... then he looks up and realizes he's still in the room. You can't write that! I could only be ad-libbed!! XD

After being fired, Stanley moved to New York City, moved into an apartment and changed his name to Cosmo Kramer.

I wonder how Kramer would've reacted to RJ Fletcher. Stanley was like a quieter, geekier version of him.

It is almost obvious that the old man put the file on his chair himself, as an excuse to have Stanley fired.

Very true. Probably because he got his big break fairly late in his life. His breakthrough role was in the movie Death of A Salesman in 1951, and he was 37 at the time. In his most famous role in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956) you can already see his hair going grey. Great actor but he made the transition from stage to screen too late.

Ultra High Frequency
@wpreston86
@wpreston86 5 лет назад
Younger people probably haven't used TV sets from the 80s. On older TV sets, there was a VHF dial (very high frequency) and UHF dial (ultra high frequency) to change channels on a TV without cable. At the time, cable was available for one household TV, if that. PBS (being non profit) and nationwide stations had VHF numbers and usually regional stations had UHF numbers. VHF was easier to broadcast over a long range than UHF, making it conducive for such stations. This was obvious a reference to the times saying that Channel 8 was a major nationwide station in the movie and U62 was a bush league underdog.

I am literally waiting for the day that someone catches him saying something like "The GOP means about as much to me as a festering bowl of dog snot!" because the only way he'll finally lose supporters is if he shows that he doesn't think any more of them than anyone else he insults.
