You are a life saver my man. Was just looking to order a wired radio coms for my bike helmet. Didn't know about the little wireless Bluetooth transmitter though! Thank you sir.
Id suggest you mount the PTT on the grip (assuming the left one doesnt rotate) on the wall next to the horn as shown on 9:32 (pause it), such that you can reach it with your thumb (because the thumb bends inward naturally)
I'm selling the adapter cables for this (sometimes, when parts are available), See ko-fi.com/keithjobson/shop For more info on the BT unit itself and how to make your own cable, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html
These days, you can get a waterproof two prong mike gmrs radios that are waterproof for about $40.00. Thanks for your research. I will put the adapter on one of my GMRS radios
Nice video that shows how to solve the solution that being trying to find for a long time, using a Baofeng 2 way with BT, Have been stuck on finding a suitable full helmet BT earphones and mic setup. Being able to pair to a Sena or another BT helmet headset is the answer. Great job.
Receiving sound level too low. Both radios need to be turned up high. It worked for a couple of weeks then no connection and PTT didn’t connect. Sena said connected but no receiving and no sending even with radios direct sending button….. DONT WASTE MONEY
You can get an AnyTone AT-D878UV PLUS with bluetooth for under 300 bucks. I got the one without bluetooth, and regretted it (it was about 320 american dineros back then) - so I'm not sure how it plays with a helmet intercom.
Hi Keith, Helpful video too mate, definitely got a like and sub from me. Currently building up my 600 for the APC Rally, and hope one day to transition to either a 701 LR, or perhaps the 450/500 Adv lite :-) Do you have information on where you got the parts to make up the adapter cable from two pin kenwood female plug to single male pin TRS? EDIT: scratch that, just found your videos on that subject, will have a look see.
Where can I find the wire adapter and the bluetooth adapter? Are you buying CARPURIDE WF01 Wireless Rear Camera (Only Suitable for Carpuride Screen) and just using the bluetooth transmitter?
Search this on ebay: "Wireless Bluetooth Earphone Headset PTT" I'm selling the adapter cables for this (sometimes, when parts are available), See ko-fi.com/keithjobson/shop For more info on the BT unit itself and how to make your own cable, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html
Thats quite a few different devices to keep charged up and pair.. 4 of us just bought cheap uhf helmet radios from amazon, worked out about £35 each, 500mw output, 5 miles line of sight, charge lasts all day, the remote ptt runs on cr2032 for months, no pairing just turn on and go.
Hey mate, great video, was just wondering in place of a senna or cardo bluetooth communicator would this setup work with just a pair of ordinary bluetooth headphones ?
G'day Keith, is this still a good way to go or is there a better way now? I've had a bad run with conventional bluetooth coms and need better for outback rides. Hope you're doing well. Cheers.
I know it’s been awhile will this setup work with a midland 75-7822? Thank you for doing this I’m looking to connect cb to helmet. Sr 10 is no longer available
No clue, sorry. I would say if you are not terribly attached to the Midland, then get a new radio that takes these dongles directly plugged in. Eg. the Baofeng UV5R.
Hey Keith, sorry to bother but I’m not seeing the info on the two prong bluetooth transmitter or the Bluetooth PTT. Would you mind posting it please. Btw, I’m using a UV5R radio.
For the UV5R you need the K type. I have bought from this seller last month: www.ebay.com.au/itm/384773819665?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=rbdnmzfmqsy&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=KK6KhP6eT4e&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Awesome Video and I think you just solved the greatest issue Adv riders have. :) I might just copy you and get the rino and these connectors. Have you managed to work out a way to secure the Rino to the bike for security reasons. Im not keen on leaving it there while I pop into shops or fuel stops? looks like somebody could just grab it?
I have not and won't bother. I have never had anyone steal gear or touch anything on the bike at a lunch stop. Overnight I remove everything, but not during the day.
Bought one - hoping to replace SR10s for our marshalling group. Connected radio to Sena/Shoei helmet but couldn’t connect PTT at the same time. Could connect PTT or the helmet but not both. Had to send it back. Anyone else have this problem?
That is weird, I've never had that problem, and I've set up dozens and dozens of these things. The actual BT adapter can handle two BT connections, i.e. the button and the intercom. Even in its "native" format, as it arrives in the box, it is paired to the PTT button and the earpiece. You must've got a faulty one.
I talk about it in the build video.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html Basically search ebay for this: Wireless Bluetooth Earphone Headset PTT but be sure you know if you want M type or K type. Watch the build video linked above for more info.
Hey Keith. Bought the cable from you and just finished install and setup with a SENA EVO 20. works a treat. Play music from phone and when a signal is received,it mutes the music and opens the UHF. Can also send receive calls which mutes everything. Just a note - Make sure you pair the Bluetooth unit to the Sena as a “GPS” and not a second phone. Or you will not be able to accept or make phone calls. Great work !!
I am actually searching for something like that . I work in a asphalt roller . We communicate via two way radio . I have a 3m worktune Bluetooth headset . I am trying to fin a way to listen to music but be able to communicate with the radio . The music need to stop when I receive or transmit . Anyway to advice me on that? Thanks
Keith Email sent I use to use the Firefox Technology Vanquish sport throat mic i use to use with my Garmin Rino 650 Rino 750 i just setup to the Sena SR10 a present FWIW most BT headsets will pair to the SENA SR10 & should pair too the dongle as well. Like your 2 to 1 2.5 cable setup - more info on this please where did you get the duel 2.5mm female plug - been searching near 24hrs can't find them
Depends on many things... output wattage of the radio, terrain, atmospheric conditions.... With the Rino 750 I would expect at least 5km on flat ground, probably more. Trees and hills will affect it greatly.
Hi there, I have got a Uniden 850 UHF radio. What in your opinion is the best solution to have an Bluetooth connected to it? Need this for paragliding. Do you think any of the cheap ones from eBay will do the job? For some reason I can't connect any other brand of accessories other than Uniden. Bought and tried a PTT (wire type) and it does work on a cheap Baofeng that I have but not on the Uniden. Thank in advance.
Yeah my advice is abandon the Uniden. Buy a cheap Baofeng UV5R ($50) and the K type dongle to suit ($70). Done. Uniden work well with Uniden products, but the 850 has a twin-plug connector that is probably not compatible with the BT dongles. I mean it could be, but it probably isn't. (****I will know more on this point next week. I will edit this comment once I've got an answer****)
I'd like to see a way to control HF radios via WiFi. My HOA limits my antenna choices, but a wood next to me offers some 120+ foot trees that would be ideal-if I could put a transceiver at their base.
Now you can buy a bluetooth enabled walkie-talkie and pair it with a bluetooth enabled helmet. Check out the Cobra PR562BLT and maybe the Motorola T800. The latter T800 can pair to a smartphone for texting features, but I am not certain if it can pair with a bluetooth headset.
You may wantvto test up to 20 miles apart. From Garmin unit to garmin, you get communication up to 20miles. The connect is with the bluetooth. What is the longest range possible incorperating the helmet?
Bugger You Keith. Well sort off.....A Mate and I just went halves and got the Rino 750 and the Sena set up. Also the RAM mounts etc. Going to also order the Bluetooth dongle push to talk as well. You went to a lot of effort Mate to sort all this out and then share with the rest of us so thankyou very much. AND.....seeing as how we have the same setup, and I live in Tyers, just down the road from Walhalla, if you are back this way and want two extra riding companions let me know. Seriously though Keith, awesome info. Cheers
Hi Keith. Great solution and vastly cheaper than the SR10. I plan to try it with my Schubert C4 Helmet and its clone Sena kit. I'll post here when I have results. As an aside, I've just received word from Sena Australia that the SR10 is to be discontinued. Not clear yet whether they plan a replacement, but I suspect not. So, very timely content.
G'day Mike. Check this video for what to search for. UHF Bluetooth dongle build - part 1 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html
What kind of Range can be expected or that you have tested ? Does dense cover (trees/forest) effect the range ? Have you tested in dense cover ? Thank Mate !!
I have the Midland 75-822 CB Radio on my Motorcycle. Could not find the SENA SR10 device for sale (by SENA). So, instead utilized a Wireless BT Adapter (HB-6A) and Wireless Remote PTT (Key) (HB-6B) units which are battery powered and USB rechargeable. $30 for the pair, plus $15 to $20 for (10 - 15 day) shipping. The Remote PTT is nice since no wiring is required. Velcro strapped (provided) to left handlebar grip; thumb activated. Red light activates when PTT active. Paired the BT Adapter with the Remote PTT unit. Then, paired the BT Adapter with my SENA 20S EVO Helmet Headset. Works Great! Overcome the mechanical (physical) constraint (clearance issues) of mating the HB-6A Device directly to my version of Midland CB Radio, by using (making) a short extension cable. There are off the shelf 2-pin molded extension cables for purchase, but a little expensive to me. Other Midland Portable/Handheld Radio models would allow for direct connection of the 2-pin BT Adapter. The BT Adapter HB-6A-I model/version purchased is for ICOM (I1 & I2) Radios. Same 2-pin 2.5mm (2-pole TS) Microphone/PTT & 3.5mm (2-pole TS) Speaker interface as the Midland CB Radio connecters. Can pair BT Adapter to SENA Headset as a second mobile phone or as GPS. Can provide (via cable) USB +5Vdc power to the BT Adapter while in operation and installed on the Motorcycle. Although, the 7 to 9 hours of battery life is adequate for my daily rides. BT Adapter has a 400mAh battery life. The Remote PTT unit battery life is identified as 3-months. The HB-6A-I BT Adapter 2-pin 2.5mm to 3.5mm Center-to-Center pin spacing is 10mm. Other BT Adapter models are available for other Radios with K-Type (11mm) and M-Type (8mm) Center-to-Center pin spacing. The marking on the BT Adapter box received for the ICOM HB-6A-I unit is further identified as 'ModelTC-IM V8'. Consider adding these identification markings as a comment as special additional instructions when ordering online.
In regards to the short extension cable, located an off-the-shelf cable. ICOM Right Angle Adapter Cable, 2-Pin Male to 2-Pin Female. Part Number OPC2144. 9-Inches overall length. Flexible. Right Angle end at Radio 2-pin Male end. Opposite end is straight 2-pin Female. The cable exits the Radio allowing maximum clearance for the Squelch & Volume knobs. This OPC2144 Extension Adapter cable supports 3 signals per each connector, for a total of 6 signals. The Midland 75-822 2.5mm Microphone connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 Ground) or a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 no connect, pin-3 Ground) and the 3.5mm Speaker connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 Speaker, pin-2 Ground), but also accepts a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 Speaker, pins 2 & 3 Ground).
Hello Keith. Thank you for the video and solution. I have a Uniden Xtrak hand held UHF which appears to have exactly the same connection as the Bluetooth dongle. What I'm not sure of is the origin of the Bluetooth adaptor. Can you help me with this at all?
Uniden BT850 is probably what you need. In my experience, the cheap units (K type and M type that I talk about in my vids) do NOT fit the Uniden radios.
@@keithjob Thank you for replying. I found the BT850 not long after I posted this question. Reached out to Uniden for advice. They did not commit that it would work with the Cardo Packtalk Edge unit. Got to give it a go I guess.
@@Yurii_Ko Literally just returned home today to find my Uniden BTX50 Bluetooth Accessory connection kit had arrived. After charging up both the Bluetooth adaptor and PTT button, and connecting the adaptor to a Uniden XTRAK50 portable UHF, I was successful in connecting it via bluetooth to my Packtalk Edge. Initially I connected it using the "Instrument display" channel/option on the Cardo unit and found I could not listen to music at the same time via my phone (Samsung S20). I re-paired the Bluetooth module to the Packtalk Edge as a "GPS" unit and while it seemed a bit fiddly/tedious as the instructions with the Uniden BTX50 kit are not great quality, I am really pleased to confirm it all works. I'm not 100% convinced yet it is a really robust combination but time will tell. I'm also a bit critical of the fit between the Radio and the bluetooth adaptor. It works, but the fit/finish leaves a bit to be desired. If I had my time over, I'd investigate the alternative Uniden portable UHF radios that have bluetooth built into them. The last tip I'd offer is to be sure of the correct Bluetooth adpator kit your purchasing for your Uniden UHF radio. There are two different bluetooth kits that look exactly the same. Will give you one guess which one I purchased first....
But if the PTT is literally next to the radio... Why use Bluetooth at all? Why not use a wired PTT. 10 or 20cm won't make all the difference in your setup or convenience. But not having to worry about BT does. If both the Garmin and UHF use the same plug PTT setup kinda thing, it's interchangeable too. Am I missing something?
Does the UHF/Bluetooth setup work/communicate with CB Radios? We ride with many Goldwing Motorcycle riders who have CB radios. We have a CanAm Spyder with no CB but have Sena bluetooth headsets. So was thinking of getting UHF Radio with your solution IF it would work with CB Radios.
UHF talks to UHF radios, operating in the 476-477 MHz frequency range. Not sure what you mean by "CB radio" - in Australia, that refers to the old 27 MHz system. (Which is still in use, but just not common for road traffic and amateur users.) UHF will not talk to the 27MHz band.
Keith, is there a reason why you can't just use the Rhino 755 (or 755t) that has Bluetooth built-in? I'm thinking to use Cardo Bold (or a Sena unit) and connect one BT channel to Rhino 755 (US) for B2B comms, and the other BT channel to the Zumo for nav/music/phone. Then all that's needed is a PPT button for the Rhino. Alother question is I find on Garmin, that all the 700-series Rhinos actually have only 2watts. From my experience (road riding 48 states), a 5w radio is good for 5 miles max, so guessing 2w radio is good for 2miles distance. Wife and I are often further apart than that. Is there another good radio option that provides BT and longer reach? We currently use Starcom1 wired systems with Midland GTX-1000 radios (5w, 5miles), and they have worked great since 2011, but now these crap BT headsets have put the legitimately great wired systems out of business (Autocom and Starcom1). Leaves me searching for an equal replacement - which doesn't seem to exist. Any help is appreciated!
Rino BT is *one way* comms only. You can listen, but not talk back. (To be more precise it does do two-way comms with a very specific set of industrial earmuffs, can't remember the details). Other UHF's with BT built in? Motorola, ICOM, but cost you a grand.
Anybody know if this bluetooth adapter can connect to *ANY* headset, not just the sena? I'm looking for a cheap peltor comtac 3 alternative for milsim airsoft by running bluetooth neckband earbuds underneath my Howard Leights with a small wire under the pads that don't compromise hearing protection. I don't want to shell out the $500+ for genuine comtacs or settle for the crappy
Probably, yes. It definitely connects to the Sena 50R / 10C EVO / 20S, Cardo Packtalk Black/Bold, and some cheapo Aldi intercom. It also definitely connected to my Bose QC35 headphones. It did also connect to Apple Airpods, BUT dropped the connection to those after a few seconds. Don't know what's going on there. You have a very specific requirement so the only way to know is to try. Good luck.
Hello Keith. I have a Schubert C4 Helmet and the Sena SC1 Advanced installed. Some years ago I managed to connect the helmet to nearly same BT unit for PTT and more, as You do in the video. I have updated the Sena unit, and now I cannot connect to the PTT. Where in the Sena Configuration Menu did you connect the PTT?
Check this video for how I paired it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WTOJu4UTdOY.html However, I have had problems before when the BT unit is un-paired from the Sena (eg. when you upgrade the Sena firmware) then I haven't been able to re-pair it to the same Sena. No idea why, that's my experience. Had to get a new BT unit.
Hi Keith only just seen this could you advise if there has been any further changes as looking to add to current setup. I currently have Garmin GPS, Phone and Sena comms. Thanks for any advise
G'day! I've made a few vids on this, check this playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PL_zt7gW1mGMi2kcuqPWg-aVj5lvf80Ldb But essentially no changes. I still use it with my Rino 750 and Sena 50R.
There was an walkie talkie from Motorola MU350R with built in Bluetooth which is discontinued. Motorola also made the PTT button that looked almost the same. It’s the same setup with one less adaptor. Somehow the market didn’t buy into it. Both products went discontinued.
Great info. I’m trying to pair a Motorola MU350R with BT to a Sena 50R but I don’t see any way to pair a “second mobile phone” which I read is the way to do it on the older Sena’s. What are the steps to pairing the BT dongle on the Sena end?
Yep - no good. It's just noise, as if the squelch is turned right down, but of course it isn't. Garmin have known about this for years, but never fixed it. Doesn't personally bother me because I don't use ch40. Ch10 is the accepted 4WD channel (eg. in the outback) and whatever channel our own group pick for use. But I can see that no ch40 could be a major show-stopper for some.
Hi Keith, Rino 750 currently has Bluetooth capability, but Garmin site says when paired to a compatible head set, outgoing transmissions can’t be made from the headset (on either Vox or ptt setting). Did you initially come up with your solution because Rino 750 Bluetooth says it can’t transmit (receive only) on paired headset, or did you develop your solution because Bluetooth wasn’t available on Rino 750 @ all back then - thanks Rodger
@@keithjob thanks Keith. Currently they have Bluetooth, but can only receive calls on paired headset, not transmit - so still pretty useless. Looks like we’ll be going down your dongle path also. Thanks very much, very helpful & informative videos with all the time consuming research already done - YOU’RE A CHAMPION!!
Sorry Greg, the UH850 is not one I have tried to make work. It has its own weird double plug that will require mapping and rewiring somehow. Good luck!
Only eBay for the double-socket end, and also eBay for the single plug end. Check out this video for more details on what to search for. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html
Hi Matt, I've done a few follow-up videos on this topic, scattered through my channel. Maybe a bit hard to find? I've now created a playlist with all the UHF BT videos, below. Please note there is no link to the BT adapter - the ebay/amazon sellers constantly change and I have no single source. My "build part 1" explains what to search for. ru-vid.com/group/PL_zt7gW1mGMi2kcuqPWg-aVj5lvf80Ldb Thanks!
Good information. Did you come across the Sena SR10 Bluetooth 2 way radio adapter when you were researching for a solution? What is the size of the 2 pin connecter used to connect with the Garmin?
The PTT button comes already paired to the main BT adapter. Then you simply pair the main BT adapter to your helmet intercom. The pairing process is shown in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WTOJu4UTdOY.html
Hey Mate, im liking the videos, thats for sure. Although, the Rino 750 can connect directly to your bluetooth headset without the extras, this will also keep it waterproof. I'm curious to know if you have tried this or not? Pairing to a Bluetooth Headset Place your headset into pairing mode before following the steps below. Refer to the headset manual or manufacturer for assistance, if needed. - From the app drawer on the Rino, select Setup - Select Bluetooth - If not already in enabled, select Bluetooth to enable - Select Audio Device - Select Add Device - Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing
@@keithjob Thanks sir for your response! I have my Garmin Rino 655T and I want to be able to communicate with my Chinese Walkie Talkie (Megaband), I tried so hard but I couldn't find the way to make it works. Could you please help with this? thanks for your time.
Any thoughts on whether your solution would work with a Sena SMH10? In your solution, can you pair also with your phone at the same time to listen to music and take calls?
no idea about the SMH10 sorry. Yes the phone pairs to the intercom on the "mobile phone" pairing, while the UHF on the "other mobile phone" pairing. It will depend on your intercom.
@@keithjob Just FYI, I believe it will work with SMH10 as long as the firmware is update. Current firmware allows multiple phone connections. I ordered in the parts to try this out. I’m quite excited to have PTT only with other comm functions retainer. I may never directly to a group again!
I got the same device, hooked it up to a Cardo Spirit as the second phone (I didn't try as a GPS). Works pretty good. A little slugish on response time but not unbearable.
@@keithjob Which ones do you get the best response times from? When I push the PTT it takes it a second for it to register - not sure if it's the PTT to the radio unit, or the radio unit to Cardo - or whether it's the Cardo that's causing the delay. It's not a voice delay, like you speak and a second later you hear it - it's a delay in the time the radio can "hear" what you're saying into the mic.
Not to my knowledge. Both those radios appear to use a twin-pin TRS connector for the headset, however I highly doubt the adapter will work, even if it fits in the sockets since it is not made for Uniden.
I won't say it's impossible but you would be starting again to work out the pin-outs. The speaker-mic unit has a twin-segment 3.5mm pin and a three-segment (TRS) 2.5mm pin... no idea sorry.
Awesome video thanks ! Would have been nice if you could show how you pared the module with the Sena (for reference) but I am most definitely going to attempt it with my 10S !
A link to pairing, positioning and building your own would've all been in the end screen. Pairing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WTOJu4UTdOY.html
Sena 50R from your friendly electronics dealer, mine was from Johnny Appleseed. I am selling the Bluetooth unit with adapter cable; email me if you want further info.
@keithjob btech gmrs pro. Has gps unit to unit or if you have the app on your phone. But it will drain your comm battery and your phone battery if the app is open.
@@potterportraits I guess you have found the other headset functions (rider intercom, music, phone calls, gps audibles) when then GME XRS-660 is BT connected to your headset (eg Cardo or Sena) don't work - like are 'blocked' while radio is BT connected (even when no active TX / RX) ? that is, headset can only operate with the radio. Is that your experience or do you have a workaround ?
Hey Keith thanks for the awesome video , just a question .....can you just bluetooth your rino750 unit to your sena headset and just use a sena push to talk with an adaptor plugged into your 750 ?
Ok so one must watch all the videos!! Your sounds seems good and normal.. My sound is distorted, works but distorted computer sounding.... I decided to inovate from your info here to just use the bluetooth for PTT and hard wire the helmet for good sound since I like the radio on myself. Cheers -

I’m in the process of the same. For my case I used a CSR8645 chip to connect to a Bluetooth headset. Next stage is to add a PTT switch to the handle bars strapped between the MIC SPEAKER into for the handheld radio. I plan to install the radio in the top box or saddle bag and use external antenna etc.
Really helpful video. Can you advise what the communication range is between the Sena and BT-enabled UHF radio? I'd like to use this set up for my daughter when she's on the go kart track during practice sessions, but she can be up to 400M away while on track. Do you think the connection would be stable between the two devices?
BT connectivity is about 10 metres. She would need the UHF in the cart, and you on another UHF. Range then is limited by your UHFs which is some kilometres.
Thanks for the quick reply! I was trying to get around her having the UHF in the kart with her, but I can likely find a workaround. At least you've settled one variable for me, in that a Sena plus UHF will not be a viable option. I've found various closed-face helmet headsets for UHFs, but people seem to complain that the sound is never loud enough. If you know of a brand that's good, do let me know. The cherry on top would be finding a helmet headset that works with VOX, but I've also head people complain that VOX doesn't work well in loud environments, which karting on a racetrack would be one.
Two senas should work fine over that range, no UHF required. Not sure how the vox would go though, yes very noisy. Maybe there's a sensitivity setting? I don't know. What do other race teams use?
Hi Kieth, a friend and I just bought a pair of Sena 10rs to connect up to UHF radios mounted on our handlebars via Bluetooth ptt buttons. His older Uniden radio worked fine via one of your dongle cables. My new GME radio has a twin pin accessory port, and when the K type Bluetooth dongle was plugged in the radio went into constant transmission mode. I am trying to narrow down possible solutions. If I can’t I have only a couple of days in which I can return the radio. I’ll call GME and Sena to see if they can help but thought you may have come across this issue in your experiments. I suspect the problem is related to the configuration of the contacts within the accessory ports. This dongle I have is a K type suited to Kenwood radios with three contact sections on each pin. Perhaps the GME port has its contacts ordered differently. I note also there are versions of the dongle that appear to have the same pin spacing for some Midland and Icom radios in which the 3.5mm pin or both pins have have only 2 contact sections. Have you ever seen a GME radio connected to one of these BT dongles? It’s interesting to see the Uniden uh850 and new XTRAK 50 have 2 pin accessory port connections. I wonder whether it will be possible to use these with any of the BT dongles. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. If I can’t solve It I’ll have to carefully select a different brand of radio.
Hi Martin. Re. the GME - I know about three people who have attempted it, but I am yet to hear of any success stories. I would guarantee the pinouts need to be remapped via some custom cabling, and personally I suspect the M type is the one you need. BUT I don't have a GME radio to try a solution. Re. the UH850 - I can tell you it does use the K type, BUT you need to do some custom wiring to get there, using a UH850 accessory plug chopped up and a couple of sockets to hold the dongle. Not a pretty or simple solution like I use with the M type double-socket-plug. So my suggestion, for the absolute simplest solution, is return the GME, and buy a Baofeng UV5R which is what the K type dongle is designed for. The radios are cheap ($50) and no custom adapter cables are required as the dongle plugs straight in the side. Turn it on, chuck it in your backpack, job done. Otherwise, get a Rino 650/700 and the M type dongle works perfectly with the adapter cord that I will hopefully soon be making again. Good luck!
@@keithjob thanks Keith, I returned the GME. I can’t afford a Rino and am a bit worried they’re a bit advanced for my IT skills. Before going for the Baofeng I’ll scour the web to see whether any of the dongles are advertised as matched to an ip67 radio you can buy here. I’ll let you know if I get it to work.
Hi Keith, my riding mates and I got separated during a ride near Lithgow last week, right on sunset, so I’m thinking the buddy-tracking on the Rino might be worth the extra expense over separate UHF and GPS. Before diving in, can you please advise whether the position of other riders only updates if they are within radio range (or actually transmitting) with the result you could get quite a long way further apart than indicated on your screen and have trouble locating each other? Or does it continue to update automatically, say via GPS signal, regardless of the distance separating you? Also, last year a few of your viewers complained their Rinos were freezing and speculated it might be something Garmin needs to fix. I was wondering whether you have heard of more of these problems and whether you would caution before buying one.
@@keithjob Hi Keith, I sent you a query about the Rino today by replying to my own comment. For you to be notified I suspect I should have replied to your comment. Anyway if you have a few moments I’d be grateful for any advice you have.
After a bit of research I got the info about when the Rinos transmit positions. Seems it’s whenever the PTT button is hit, so presumably only works if transmitting and within radio range. Thanks again for your videos Keith, they are very entertaining and informative.
Depends on your intercom. The Sena can have multiple BT devices connected. Eg. I can have music playing from my phone, and if a UHF transmission comes in it will stop the music and play the UHF.
@@keithjob Great set up mate, I have been exploring this issue as I am in the process of setting up my new adventure bike. Will the sena do intercom as well as UHF and music stream? Or will the pillion (wife) just have to enjoy her own company LOL
Thanks Keith for this video. I'm in the middle of wanting a UHF set-up for Course Marshall use supporting road cycle races. I was about to pull the trigger on a Sena SR10, however I really like your solution with wirless PTT. i just need to see if I can adapt to a GME TX6160 as I want to avoid outlay for a new radio. Now following as your videos are very informative.
In searching for some bluetooth PTT buttons, I was happy to have found this video. The content here is quite useful and appreciated. However, here are some questions for you, which I hope you will find time to answer, even briefly. 1) The UFH radio you refer to, is it the same as a CB radio in the USA. will it communicate with a US CB radio? 2) Who makes the dongle and how can it be purchased? 3) Would the dongle work with a portable US CB Radio?
Some answers... 1) I don't think so. CB operates on 27MHz, UHF up around 470MHz 2) eBay/Amazon.. check the build video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7UoWnWchAy8.html 3) Don't know sorry, you would have to experiment. They are designed for UHF radios.
