Me too. I'm a shy introvert and have social anxiety, so this social isolation thing isn't that big of a deal to me. I usually hate leaving the house, even when I have to go to school.
Oh god, finally I've found an actual hermit who's loving this enforced isolation and not someone who's "an introvert on mondays" for the quirkiness. I honestly wish this enforced isolation would go on for years without people dying from this disease. Never have to leave my room. Don't have to go to Uni classes. Air is cleaner. Less noise pollution. Things are great.
Noone seems to notice that because he is using a logarithmic chart, even if the rate of dying per day does not decrease, *it will still be drawn as a "flattening" curve.* (Because the count increases exponentially on the logarithmic chart.) EDIT: As for the "excess" deaths, this is gaslighting as many of those who died would not have died except for this virus. Forcing people into lockdown has reduced road fatalities, and many other risk factors that decreased average mortality rates. Asthmatics have ventilators. Diabetics have insulin. Recovering cancer patients would not die from a typical cold virus.
@Wesley I'm wary of _normalcy bias_ and media reports claiming "it's all okay, most people got it already". Countries seem to go through a pattern of denying its severity, then recognizing some risk and finally introducing extreme countermeasures.

I was social distancing a very long time before it became government policy. I was appalled to see pubs, theatres and restaurants open and flights unrestricted in and out of our airports with nobody being tested.

@@DeanS946 It may be but the data is biased by lack of testing. If the whole population got it and we had ample testing the likely hood would be under 1% mortality. Uk data is especially bias as they only test the ill. Statistics is complicated.

Lock down is not working not in west-midland anyway, I'm a bus driver and i see more and more people in my bus everyday, this virus is dengerous and i don't think people are taking it seriously. My thoughts and prayers with prime minister Boris Johnson and others in hospital with this deadly virus and i hope very much that they all quickly recover from this.

One note though: Italy has been taken by a surprise, as no one expected it to be THAT bad, hospitals got overwhelmed and some people were left to die because they had to prioritise patients. Meanwhile UK had weeks to prepare, NHS reports it still has the capacity to accept more patients, and yet the death toll is still comparable to Italy. WHAT THE HELL?
"got taken by surprise"?? They were WARNED like the rest of the world in beginning of JANUARY. But they did nothing and even had people kissing popes hand and tourists streaming in. They thought they were superior, so did UK, america, iran, france and others.
If U.K. had done the right amount of testing ( which has not done so far ) they would have realized that they overtaken Italy days ago ... loads of deaths in U.K. from people died from pneumonia without being tested .
We should be overtaking Italy anyway. We have a population 6,000,000 higher than they do in an area that is only 80% of the size of their country. To put it simply more people in a smaller space. Guaranteed to spread faster and further it's simple.

Am I missing something? Current death toll - according to Public Health England- is 5373 as of Tue 7th April 2020. Can someone tell how its going to reach 10000+ by the weekend or is this more scare mongering by the MSM, just asking. 1000-5373=4627, so 1156 people must die each day up to Saturday. Greatest daily death toll thus far is 708 on the 4th and is now declining. By the way, Italy’s death toll thus far = 16523. Or have I got it all wrong?

Less of a transient population. There is a huge amount of travel to and from the UK. Same for other western countries like France, Spain, Italy and USA.
Yet England still aren't testing many people. Many towns and cities, including the one inwhich i live. people aren't taking this "lockdown" seriously. still seeing loads of people out, especially on the parks. The government has truly fucked us over.

I haven't seen today's (Wednesday)'s effort from Ed Conway. But no doubt he'll be turning up dressed as the Grim Reaper and telling us we'll all be dead by Easter Sunday. The number of deaths announced today is 936, so Ed will likely become hysterical. But that's still only a three day average of 720, and a mere 12 a day more than 5 days ago. Deaths announced on Tuesday & Wednesday include deaths they haven't counted at the weekend. NHS 'Hero' office staff don't work weekends, are so exhausted from their two days off, hung over from drinking the booze they buy in Supermarket 'NHS Special Shopping Hours', emotionally drained after being clapped by gullible passers by for doing so, and terrified by 'Covid 19 phobia' and lack of gas masks, it takes them at least two days to count up to 1000. So on the past rolling three day average, deaths will still take another 8.5 days, not 4 days as Ed says, (the BBC says 3.5 days) to double, and 5.5 days (from the date of this video), to reach 10,000. Which will be Monday, not Friday as Ed predicted as recently as yesterday. Even on today's artificially inflated number alone the existing total would take 8 days to double. The 'peak' death rate is already here.

The whole point of logarithmic graphs - especially within epidemiology - is that so exponential graphs can be visualized linearly. What's wrong about drawing a straight line? I'm not a fan of Sky either, but I don't see how that demonstrates his incompetence.
I will add that the current increase is still very bad, and we needn’t get complacent. But from this graph to do the extrapolation that sky have just done to make the claim that the UK could overtake Italy by the weekend is wrong, unless they have other evidence to justify the claim.

At no time did Sky say that UK could overtake Italian deaths by the weekend - as of Tuesday the totals were UK 6159, Italy 17,127. If the growth rate is constant (and the evidence suggests it may be slowing down) then by the weekend UK would have 12000-12500 deaths and Italy 19,000-19,500. Very poor analysis by Sky and even worse by the headline writer
How many people die due to health reasons anyway? Has this really changed the Death rate ? And are they positive that the cause of death is actually covid and not their other illness but just happens that they were +ve for covid.
WE DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM PAST. SARS originated in China in 2003. At that time it was stated that SARS is airborne , so Govts quickly reacted and SARS pandemic was eventually brought under control, following a policy of isolating people suspected of having the condition and screening all passengers travelling by air. Testing centers are starting to spring up everywhere. There's one near me in a lesuire center car park. (although, as yet not 'live' ) So, ramping up of testing must be imminant.

The UK curve has been closely tracking the Italian one in recent weeks, so the idea that it's going to stop flattening and carry on in a line is just... statistical incompetence.
For infections it hasn't actually. The UK is doing quite reasonably and we are only just starting to get the lockdown's benefits in full. From March 27th to today the UK has gone from 2.8k to 3.6k cases in a day, with the anomalous 6k spike a couple days ago. It hovered around 2-3 for a few days, then 3-4k. It didn't go 2-3-4-6-8 etc. Italy hit around 6k cases and had that daily for a while, near the end of march. Spain hit 8k daily for a sustained period of time. Have to see how the UK progresses in the next week.

It is a power scale. Instead of a linear scale, say, going up 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. a logarithmic scale is in power increments. The power of 10 is the usual scale for most logarithmic graphs. So each grade on the scale is 0, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, etc. Because disease contagion spreads in a power scale type way, Log scales are often the best way to show its growth. One person infects 10 others, those 10 infect 10 others, making 100, those infect 10 more each making 1000, etc. that is the gist of it.
1) The UK has a larger population (67 million) compared to Italy (61 million), so we should expect a higher number of cases and deaths anyway. 2) The chart is logarithmic, so flattening of the curve is not necessarily indicative of an improving situation in terms of numbers of cases/deaths.
