Your right that was shocking, and it's no fun being squeezed like that when on a bike. But you have to ask yourself why did the council put in that pointless traffic island, which meant the bus had to move back to the left. It's serves no purpose and had it not been there, the bus would have overtaken the cyclist safely. Yes of course the bus driver should have seen the traffic island and not over taken. But I see this so many times. Drivers forcing their way past a cyclist just as they approach an utterly pointless traffic island. A lot of problems I have when cycling are caused by bad road design. Councils need to make it easier to get past cyclist, and stop narrowing the road for no reason.

That's one thing we do right in the US mostly. It's super easy to lose your CDL as a bus driver for being unsafe. Literally seen it happen. Hopefully it's as good on that side of the pond, and the chap followed through on his threat to send in the footage.

@@japsniper1980 That traffic island is in fact a pedestrian refuge/safe haven, you might notice the lowered kerb on either side of the pavements at it, to allowed wheelchair and those less mobile to cross the road. It allows people to get half way across the road and have somewhere to wait, if they needed.

I've had this happen to me before, reported it and got a reply from the company saying they spoke to the driver.

@@japsniper1980 The purpose the traffic island serves is to allow pedestrians a place to cross without installing a full zebra crossing. But it makes no difference whether it's a good or bad design... the bus driver knows the route, including where the pedestrian islands are, but decided to endanger the cyclists safety rather than wait a few seconds!

Totally agreed. They indicated and waited before moving over. Cam car speeds up so they can blast their horn. Is it hard to just let them in or does your ego feel totally threatened by someone entering your lane. Honestly 🤦🏻‍♂️

Both in the wrong guy should have probably let him in but indicators don’t mean you have priority to move into the lane. He shouldn’t have gone in unless it was clear or had gone in earlier

We have a roundabout where we live, three roads in to it, one of them obstructed by a building, so traffic coming from the left can't see. Folks don't slow down and get irate when there is somebody from the left who "pulls out in front of them". The other day the guy in front of me slowed down to about 10 to actually be safe, saw nothing coming from behind the building so went for it - wanker in an Audi A3 shoots out doing 30, not slowing down, and tailgates about 2 metres behind him for the next half a mile flashing his lights.

I'm a bus driver in training . That was poor planning and awareness and the driver should have his driving evaluated by the bus company.

Bus drivers are one of the worst here in London. They think that when they put their indicators on that the traffic going past them magically disappears so they can pull out without looking - they do it with cyclists or cars, they don't care

J B not sure if it’s law etc, but I think the Highway Code says to allow, buses that are indicating, the room to move over (something along those lines). But they abuse that shit out of it.

@@Restricted68 The highway code says about buses, coaches and trams in Rule 223: "Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely". The "when you can do so safely" is the bit the bus drivers don't care about.

@cycling vidz yeah what James hodson said, get it on social media, post it on Twitter and on their Facebook. They will do something about it then. Trust me, I complained about a lorry driver for pets at home and they dealt with it straight away. Best of luck!

That roundabout is notorious for having bad drivers on it. For some reason when people use that roundabout they suddenly don't know how it works. There are always drivers in the wrong lane, always drivers not giving way and always drivers going into the [KEEP CLEAR] box and blocking the roundabout. From my experience on this roundabout, the Audi would be doing what a lot of drivers do and try to skip as much of the queue as possible by coming off the roundabout in the wrong lane. The dashcammer I pressume thought the Audi driver wasn't coming off the roundabout due to the lane he was in and decided to go as you can see that the other cars aren't moving due to the mass amounts of roadworks they have on that road to the left (they are making it into a dual track, like they should have done years ago). Basically, both drivers were in the wrong with this.

Well, does seem to be stupid. The car that cut across him did so from the righthand lane (the innermost of 3 on the roundabout). He took the next exit. He needed to be in the lefthand lane (the outermost of the 3) to take that exit. He was completely in the wrong place. The driver coming on to the roundabout thought he would be able to enter the middle lane (the 2nd of the 3) without conflict. He would have been right if the other driver hadn't cut across 2 lanes.

The lanes are very clearly marked. The camera car entered from the north and was heading south. The other car took the exit to the east. If it entered from the west it needed to approach in the middle lane and use the lane 2nd from the inside (the outer lane as it passed the entrance from the north). This is clearly shown on a sign on the approach, by the arrows and destinations printed on the road at the entrance and by the arrows and destinations on the roundabout just before the exit. If it entered from the south it needed to approach in the inside lane and that lane becomes the 2nd from the inside when it passes the entrance from the west. @@paulkennedy8701 Whether he was in the wrong lane or not, the cammer should still give way to vehicles to his right. Just because you 'think' someone is going to turn right and you 'think' you're not going to be in their way doesn't mean you can enter the roundabout. Cammer was 100% in the wrong.

The guy on the roundabout was definitely in the wrong lane, thus why he had to cross a hatched area when exiting. Watch it again. At same time though regardless of what lane he’s in you don’t just drive at him, at the end of the day those already on the roundabout have right of way.

The car indicated and moved over into into the large gap as soon as they were able to and they gave the cam driver plenty of warning. I know you lack any observational skills but the cars in front were slowing down so the cam car was going to have to break regardless.

@@roadbiker8333 the cammer wasn't planning ahead, the road marking indicated to start slowing, this could all been avoided, the cammer just wanted some footage for youtube, you would never do something like that during your driving exam, you see someone indicating, you start to plan whats going to happen next, most of the time slow down, and adjust to the situation. There are much more dangerous knobs on the road that cuts you off without indicating, and thats where you should express your anger, not before approaching roundabout where everyone going to need to slowdown anyway

Yeah all the young people i know (my son included) doesn't even own their own music. In that i mean cd's/albums. They all search for a genre on the many streaming services and just listen to that playlist.

I still use my PSP as an MP3 player because I don't like all this 'modern music', (and phones don't have enough space or battery life, or even a headphone socket anymore) and parents have hundreds of disks they've got in a stacked-car-player so they still use CDs. I'm nearly 30 and they're in their 60-70's, and at least all our music is digital (burned to aforementioned car CDs) so unlike tapes we don't have to worry too much about wearing them out. I can't see how you stream stuff without wifi lol but that's countryside living with no mobile signal for you.

@@Roadent1241 Nothing wrong with pod casts and digital music such as mp3's. I enjoy many podcasts today. I should have included people now days not owning digital music (mp3's). In my late teens and early 20's i was an active DJ. This was back in the late 80's and early 90's when there was no streaming services or mp3's around, so if you didnt own your own music (12' singles in the 80's and CD's in the 90's) all you had was what was playing on the radio. I was always into dance, hip hop, trance, rap, so unless i went out and bought tapes, cd's or albums, there was no way to enjoy this music in the home. Thanks to the technology we have today, i now enjoy my music in MP3 format so it will never go bad with age.

Maybe I just don't understand Streaming because it's not something I can do. @@Roadent1241 When your listening to music online, its streamed over the internet to the device your using such as an ipad/iphone or to a program on your computer such as Winamp. Its basically the same as listening to a radio broadcast except the other is streamed over the internet so you dont need any physical mp3 file on your device. All you need is an internet connection. I have repeated my self a couple of times but i hope i make sense?

It's a Stagecoach bus - it could have extra mirrors, 30000 sensors to detect proximity and all manner of gadgets to improve road safety and it won't make a blind bit of difference when you have Stagecoach employing PSV drivers

The relentless mini roundabout theme is depressing. However, in my real, non dash-cam life, I have to make a lot of risky decisions due to the idiocy of many drivers at mini-roundabouts.

They would have a hard time prosecuting that one becuase the front of the car is over the line before it goes red.

When I was in Malta, a local was telling me what side of the road they drive on. He said "The shady side." 🤣

You would think that the cammer being in the right hand lane of the two lanes entry to the roundabout is enough indication? Yes the indicator will help but all it takes is a few brain cells from the van driver to think about where the car is most likely to go and you’re taught at roundabouts that if you don’t know where they are going regardless of what lane they are in you should wait until it is safe to enter the junction and/or roundabout

The driver at 1:57 was mistakenly under the opinion they had right of way (something that doesn't exist in UK driving) and that they could make a point by unlawfully trying to intimidate the pedestrian. Of course if the driver was of a good standard, they would understand that they had to give way to that pedestrian... There are too few drivers of a good standard on our roads. As for 2:55 - this also is an artifact of drivers in this country not being a good standard, and not knowing the rules and regulations that surround driving. The amber light means stop, exactly the same as the red light. Most people think it means you can continue through if you can get over the line before the light turns red... Most people are wrong. The amber light carries the exact same meaning as the red light, with one caveat. It is a legal defense to drive through an amber light if (and only if) you could not stop your vehicle safely. The red light has no such exception. So given how long that light was on amber, there is no doubt that the driver who went through it was guilty of an offence.
