Most of the commenters here are missing the point of what he is trying to say. He wants to weaken encryption in the name of defense. Encryption that everyone uses every day, even if they don't realise they are using it. They are asking to be able to read all of your communications, all of your transacations, with no need for a warrant or suspicion. And when they can do that, so can everyone else in the world. I would imagine (correct me if I am wrong) that most of our communications are being monitored already. Definitely on here, I would imagine our political leanings are recorded as are numerous other character indicators. I don't believe that to be paranoid, just logical from the intelligent services perspective. They want as much information pertaining to the population as possible. It means they can effectively predict outcomes in any given situation, manufactured or otherwise.
