Thanks for going to all the trouble you do in filming and uploading these videos Andy - I really feel I have experienced the harvest myself this year!! What with the blowing down and maintenance checks each morning, and the late finishes, you certainly look after the equipment well and make full use of each day. You deserve to be very well thought of and respected by your dad and the company’s owners!

Another cracking journal Andy, I really enjoy seeing your work (I worked on farms aback in the 1980’s!). In reply to your question re rainfall, I live on the Isle of Skye and we had virtually no rain at all in August (surprise surprise!) but we had a really wet June and July.

On the day you were filming 30th August we had 195 mm in the afternoon. A localised storm that just hung over us and kept building. That was in South west Norfolk but eight miles away a farmer friend had 6mm. Up until then we were very dry!

It's been a very wet August I did manage to put my mower on and cut about 4 acres of grass, but the baler broke a belt so I had to get someone to finish it for me. From Cornwall, it's so nice to see the harvest coming in from nr to my home Area.

Are you working as an employee or is this your familys farm? I still don't really get the system in England with Farm 1,2,3 😂 Greetings from Germany😀
@martingibbs1179
@martingibbs1179 4 года назад
Can't say anything about his specifics but I think I can clear up the farm 1,2,3 issue. Most farms (collection of fields) have existed a long time and the fields associated with them didn't change much. Traditionally it would be 1 farm 1 farm yard (the sheds) and the farm yard would be positioned optimally in the middle so harvest wouldn't have to be carted too far in any one direction (remember horse power). However, in the last century with modern agriculture being less labour intensive and more productive many traditional farms are not profitable enough to support a family. That's why these days many old farms have been effectively merged into one operation that can spread the cost out over the larger area creating better profit per acre. Although these old farms are working as one business its likely on paper they are still registered as different properties. Why spend money on having the land registries altered when its not necessary? Farm 1 was probably owned first and 2 and 3 were acquired later. Although in the deeds they probably aren't called farm 1,2,3 but have a more traditional English farm name like "grange farm" which would indicated it was once owned by the church. There are a lot of grange farms in England.
