Most of us have no issue with criminals receiving appropriate sentences for crimes, but this must apply to all criminals. There are numerous cases of people receiving light or suspended sentences for vile crimes such as sexual assaults, killings, racially aggravated offences and so on and so on. Additionally there are cases of ludicrous non crimes resulting in fines, or jail time for non payment of licence fees and council tax. This is totally backward!
Some of them probably have and their trials will be a while yet. Given the amount of evidence much of it helpfully provided by other rioters livestreaming the violence many of them are probably going to end up being found guilty in which case as they refused to take responsibility for their actions they will end up with longer sentences than the ones who plead guilty.
Yes, you can do that, but if the weight of evidence is overwhelming, which I expect it is in these cases, then they are advised by solicitor to plead guilty, and get a lesser sentence. If they go for trial by jury, which is their right, and the weight of evidence is overwhelming, they will get a much tougher sentence. That's why some of those poor Postmasters pleading guilty.

That's not how English law works... Everything is unspecified and determined by court. This is why our self defence laws are unusable, what is a "reasonable" level of force? You're liable if what you think is reasonable force isn't agreed by the court.

Of course the court has judgement on reasonable force when put before court, which happens after the actionable offence, which should be judged by officers who attend the scene of the crime. This does not appear to be justice of any description. It looks like what it is. Politically driven use of the law, applied unevenly and disproportionatly administered in relation to the crime. The speed removes anslysis of the evidence and the ability to form a defence. I am certain that anyone with financial resource could destroy the case. This simply highlights the desperation of those in power to suppress the idea. They compound the view that the working class are currently abused and mistreated by the state. The ones in prison may be guilty but the guilt is overlaid onto others who have not commited crimes but hold the same view. Smear suppress and silence. Sentencing guidelines are issued by Parliament, judges interpret the law and apply those sentencing guidelines. The PM has no part in directly setting sentences. The "law lords" have not existed since 2009 when the Supreme Court was created. Do keep up.
