I remember a shop in Liverpool in the mid sixties you could have bought the shop full of bike for £2000 they had everything and where selling Velos . Nortons . Triumph. Every scooter you could think of from Zundapps to vespas my mate bought a working vespa for £10 . Hindsight is a wonderful experience of missed opportunities. ❤
£23,000 for that 'Bretta is astonishing! I'm utterly gobsmacked! In 1979 I bought a '63 series III LI 150 from my neighbour for £150. It'd been his daily driver (around Edinburgh) from new, and it was really showing it's age. I gave it to my 2nd cousin to completely overhaul, and ended up rebuilding the engine with upgraded parts(that didn't keep breaking down). It was re-sprayed by a coach-builders on the outskirts of Edinburgh in it's original livery, but with three coats of everything(inc.clear-coat), so the total bill was another £175. I rode it for two years then went off travelling the world. She sat in my dad's garage doing nothing, so he phoned me up in Spain(where I had settled) and asked what I wanted to do with it, as it was getting in the way of his BMW Collection. As I'd almost forgotten I had it, I told him to sell it. So he gave it to his cousin who sold it for £400 in 1985...............One of the few things in my life that I truly regretted, as I paid £4000 for an almost identical III series 3 yrs ago! A lovely example(but without the amazing paint-job Lol!) PS. The last surviving member of the Stevens (AJS) family was used to be Mayor in the town I live in in S.Devon. He's still a Bike-Guy, Rides a (modern) Vespa most days, and has a few "Old Girls kicking around his barns", so when I see him having his morning coffee, later today, I'm going to mention the Porcupine! And ask if he knows what that example went for.............
The person who paid £23k for that piece of junk was a fool. I''ve had experience with bike restorations, that machine will be near-impossible to restore without replacing a large number of parts. The uninitiated see rusty bikes & think they can be painted and polished, and that will make them look new. It doesn't work like that.

@@fredflintstone8770 Looking at the condition ,I`d would say a good 90 percent can be reused, and in the uk and world wide lambretta spares are easy to source ,but 24 grand is bit stupid when a fully restored one can be had for half that amount
For no clear reason my mate who was only 17 at the time, switched his 250 Suzuki T10 for a combo - A six&ahalf Matchless (I think) twin pulling a massive Watsonian fully enclosed chair you could have parked most bikes inside. Well, my then girlfriend and I are in the chair and getting a 'little amorous', figuring it being dark he wouldn't notice. He did. So, being the envious type, he detoured to where there was a stupidly steep hump back bridge. All three bloody wheels off the ground wasn't too bad but not much warning. Monica was the only one who enjoyed the landing 'though. It brought tears to my eyes. Some things just don't make good shock absorbers. Even if they are paired.
these are collectors auctions not craigslist, people who care about original "numbers matching" bs. soulless shells of people whose children don't visit them anymore and whose only joy comes from owning old bikes. willing to dump the inheritance on ancient chunks of iron. but don't worry its only a matter of time before they die and their kids dump them on craigslist or gumtree or whatever to make rent.
@Merle J. Stadnyk maybe because of the lower supply of these old British bikes, but i think us collectors would be into old Harleys. or maybe these types people are just into cars in the us.
@Merle J. Stadnyk Maybe prices would be higher in the USA maybe not. I worked with a guy who bought a Vincent Black Shadow and (I'm getting old - I can't remeber what the other bike was!) - both in bits but complete - in a US auction about 18 years ago. He reckoned he would have paid three to four times as much for the same thing in the UK.
Sold a collection of KR250a parts some years ago, enough for three bikes. Rebuilt a RD350 and rode it for a few years too. Worked for a Kawasaki dealer when the Z1 was released in Australia . Many other stories too.
These prices are "BarkingMad" the amount of the bikes you spoke about is ridiculous, My first bike was a Panther 650, I found it in bits on the tip & put it together without a manual at 12, I had the full set of the Suzuki GT range & almost all the Yamaha RD range with a host of well respected British bike all bought as "BasketCases" at one time, unfortunately, I got ill & told I would never walk again let alone ride my beautiful bikes, so I promptly got the arse & sold them all, it's a shame I didn't listen to my beautiful wife(SuperNurse) she gave me a month to sulk then put me through 5 months of hell, but I was walking again, sort of, 2 years on I was riding again, the only bike I kept I gave it to her a 71 GT380 it was the first bike she ever rode on, even though I've built her a very heavily modded ZX6R she still kept hold of it she was offered £10,000 not so long ago but says it holds too many memories to let it go at any price, I have a Gamma500 & Ididn't pay anything like that for it, in fact all the6 bikes I have don't add up to that, but they are in better than new condition even though I ride them a lot, I'm currently taking money off litre bike riders that can't ride with the Gamma. If I hadn't sold them I would be a millionaire, all these guys trying to re-live their "GloryDays" by buying these & paying absolute fortunes for shite "CafeBikes" are banging up the prices on the secondhand market, tomboy-abit got a CB750 4 for £300 so there are still the odd ones out there.
The AP50 was a superior machine, I swapped mine for a pair of silencers I seem to remember. Friend of the family gave me a 64 Vespa Sportique which I got running &mot'd, sold it to a mod for £150 ,that was probably 1980, thought I'd done well, couldn't give them away back then.

I biought my 750 SS back in Jan 75 and i still ride it today. She has 33k kms on the clock and will never be sold. 4 years ago i was offered 55k Euros which i turned down.

Have a couple of stories about a brough superior ss100 1925 we were clearing out a relative's house after he had passed away we were clearing the garden which was very over grown after a couple of days we got to the back and found a old brick shed no windows and double paddlocks we got in eventually it was like entering a time warp my father myself and cousin all started routing around at far end of shed was a large tarpolin when we removed it there were 3old motorcycles when we got them into the light we were shocked a brough superior ss100 a Areial square four and Vincent black shadow we found all the documents for them we sold all the bikes to British motorcycle museum Birmingham
I bought a brand new MV Agusta 750GT for $2800 Australian dollars in the late seventies after the Australian importer closed up shop. No one wanted MVs at the time and parts were hard to come by. I wish I still had it today.
I owned a m v 750 s i brought mine from a car dealership in Sydney Australia in early 70s as well it was an ex bob jane owned machine it wasnt new but i payed about 3000 for it back then no distributer or spare parts made it impossible to ride in the end virtualy gave it away in the end ah if we only had known back then what one would be worth now
It is a shame that bread and butter bikes are now fetching stupid money. I can understand the rare exotica. But when a scabby c15 goes for 1500 pound. These where 5 pound bikes. Bantams came often free to a good home.

Barber has two E95, Iannucci has one, Bonhams sold Roy Richards E95, Miller has a E90 restored by Bennett and George Beale build one complete replica of the E95.
Always amazed at the money Broughs make. A friend of mine had a Matchless engined SS80. At the end of the day Broughs are "bitsas" whose inflated value is based on a combination of George Brough's hyperbole and the Lawrence of Arabia association.
It's kinda strange to see the motorcycles that used to get treated as `just another bike', like Yamaha LC's (Elsies) and FS1E (fizzies) now commanding such astonishing prices. I guess it's telling me that I must be a bit of an antique myself. I wonder how much I'd fetch with a concourse restoration...
I wonder what my first motorcycle, a 1968 Norton Ranger P11A would be worth today? It was near complete and original with just the high pipes replaced with a low pair of Dunstalls.
I bought my RG500 from Action Suzuki in Australia for $4995. I sold it with 12,000 klms on it in 1988 for $2700 The last one I saw on Ebay Australia was at $44,600.. reserve not yet met. Suzuki Australia kept the first one they ever imported. It was offered a couple of years ago at $80,000 AU
Sounds like a bubble getting ready to pop. Broughs and the likes fair enough, they were always exclusive and rare, but ratty old rd's for over 10k ! Madness.
Oh I dunno .......... When you look at what it'll cost for a new virtually 'factory sealed' bike its not that bad. Besides. A couple of years back I followed a drop dead bloody gorgeous original Kawasaki H1 just sniffing the burned two stroke oil and revelling in its engine sound. It was still *bloody* quick too. I'd probably have swapped my 2002 R1 for it on the spot had he offered.
Have one of the very last Honda NC 35s and a very scratched NC 30 sitting gathering dust. This set me to wondering has me wondering what they're worth.
I had a 750 round case that I sold just over 20 years ago as a basket case for £3000, ouch ! Children were very young and we needed central heating ☹️ Sold it to an old friend who took it to Spain and he sold it about 5 years ago to an Italian (still in those baskets) for €20,000.
The 750 MV's were based on a 500cc engine designed in 1950 which in turn was based on a Gilera engine designed in the 1920's so it had a very long life considering it was old tech, MV actually stopped using it in competition in 1966 when the 3 cylinder bikes came online and these were the bikes that were most associated with Ago although he did win 1 GP with the 4 cylinder in 1965 his first year with MV Agusta, coincidentally this was the year that the 600cc road bike was introduced and became the worlds first production transverse 4 cylinder machine but the road bikes carried on with the larger displacement 750 up to 1977 when production stopped. When I was younger I really wanted one of these 750's but they were way outside my pay scale and appear to be even more so now.
Fantastic stuff - that Duke has been my dream bike for over 50 decades, but will no doubt continue to elude me. But - a good friend of mine has a Paul Smart Ducati that I've ridden, and it was incredible...
I once owned a 1960's Honda CL 350 that I bought and later sold for a few hundred dollars. I rode it for transportation for years. The bike was a bit of a joke as bikes of the era go, and certainly not worth much. I recently saw on-line that several of them in good condition were going for $6000 and more.. Amazing what some of these old bikes are going for. I also had one of those old Yamaha small bore single cylinder 2 strokes. I bought it used from a Yamaha dealer for $150 at the time and sold it for about the same money years later. I can't believe how much that bike in this video brought at auction. I think people are losing their minds, but whatever. I also think that people tend to lose their minds a bit at auctions and get that fever where they 'must win' the bidding.
OMG, 115K GBP for a Duc which you cant trust to run free of problems for 50km, some guys must have too much money :-) - anyway, not my problem lol - its certainly a very nice bike, a friend of mine had a 750SS in the late 70's, the bike was more in a garage for repairs but on the road

Think I paid £80 for my Fizzie. Passed my test on a RD 125. Examiner said I will not be able to see you all the time. Pulling away I turned left instead of right. Thought I had failed straight away! Seems like yesterday ( I passed) but in fact it was 43 years ago. 😔 Where did time go and why did I not buy everything then so I could sell it now! 😭
The porcupine is a treat a guy I know who restores Vincent's xsaid he was bidding on this one think the 2supercharged engines are lying around in the UK
rd350, 120000$ that is insane these prices are 10x there actual worth. I will suggest that the market this video is talking about is the equivalent of buying puts or push on the stock market. Hoping that some kind of hype will influence an already inflated unrealistic price. Cheers, a
Hi Lupo631 at an auction the hammer goes down on what you have bid, but the winning bidder has to pay a buyer's premium usually of 20% plus VAT, so typically you must add 25% to your budget, that is the commission that the auction house earns. Cheers from Bristol, I'm addicted to buying violins!

it seems to me that... yes the buyers are investors. And so what! these bikes are preserved. obviously i would like to ride one of these Brough monuments. As i would like to sleep one night in the Queens bedroom in Versailles, I would like to get one of the horses of Lascaux standing on my wall... Ok If you don't have the money which is necessary to keep those bikes in good condition, maintain the motor after driving it during the week-end... forget it and let it for the fortunates few. The only regulation should be to keep the bike on british territory. And telling that it's a bubble, in my opinion is a mistake. The monetary policies of BCE, Fed and so, made the future more than dangerous for everybody excpt banks, traders and governments. If you want to keep your patrimony, you should quickly buy tangible goods and collectors are tangible goods. a Brough superior, a Porcupine will remain very rare and the value stays. whatever may become the value of money.
When you think everything is made up of atoms and atoms are 99.9999% empty space, these bikes are expensive for something that will end up as a pile of dust in the future.

These auction sites take the piss on prices there just old bikes Yes ther worth a bit more but really they should be ashamed of what ther asking as they cost heaps of cash to restore an already knackerd motorcycle , there like greedy estate agents , I hope they all go to the wall in the future 😡
lot of money for a ducati 750 ss, a used to own a 1974 it was immaculate, alloy imola tank polished was hub steered built by difazio have a photo of the son in law with it, swapped it for a 650 a10 plus 400 quid did a do the right thing, guess not, ohh bugga

All engineered to make bikes impossibly expensive, WAAY in excess of what they are ACTUALLY worth I hate these profiteering parasites..... not a true biker amongst them ... imagine paying 34k for a rd250 you go straight into negative equity. you'll NEVER get your money back, and it's too expensive to use..... and imaging trying to do an agreed value with the insurance broker.... (you paid HOW MUCH>>???) sorry , we won't cover that....
