A PPL level VFR flight planning exercise in UK airspace. I've put a hundred hours into this over the last couple of weeks, to try and beat the release of the new charts. Enjoy!
Clarifications:
1) The Gloucester NDB hold is at 2800ft to the West.
2) Permission to enter an ATZ is mandatory for ALL flights.
3) I know, I know... a C150 doesn't have tabs :-)

The best, most comprehensive UK flight planning guide on the Internet. Really useful for refreshing my memory as I have long gaps between flights! Thank you very much for your hard work.

This is great, been down lately because my navigation and planning has been less than anything approaching acceptable. Appreciate your systemised approach which I will adopt from now on. Thanks for making the effort to produce this video.

These videos you do are honestly the best. Clear, concise and very well put together. This will definitely help with my PPL training. Hopefully hear you on the airways at some point

Cracking couple of videos and its nice to see that even the mil are letting Scousers talk on the radio these days(!). Leopard c/s flights are flown by Andrew I believe (AIP ENR 1.1 28). Thanks for putting all that effort in, really helpful for those of us doing some groundschool while everything GA is on lockdown.

There are many aviation youtubers, even with very interesting graphics. However, you are the best illustrator and with very basic. I subscribed to many but you are the one #I clicked on the reminder bell. Many thanks and hope to see more videos

Great explanation. One thing on your Mass and ballance calculations, you also need to remove the fuel and see if you are still in limits, as per your arrival at Blackpool / Barrow.

WOW matey, just got into flight sim and realllly thinking about going for my PPL what an amazing indepth instructional video youve produced, im going to take these skills to my flight sim software and put them to good use and to hopefully build up enough experiance to comfortably be able to bring this skill set over to obtaining a PPL ... funny enough ENGH is my local airport right on my door step... you've found a subscriber and im looking forward to future videos ... I didnt know anything about the low level corridor at all

@@saf40 microsoft flight simulator is a great option on I use the new one has real world graphics so it's quiet demanding on a computer and a decent rig is needed but for me it's perfect with loads.of add ons and extras if you plan on building your own cockpit

Great video again. Very clear and interesting. Just a question, I was confused whether civil traffic could or could not use the military precision approach radar as you seemed to say that you're not allowed to give it due to lack of training but then stated that if we did ask for it, you can give it to us? Fantastic video again but was just a thought 👍
@Quantiad
@Quantiad 6 лет назад
Hi, thanks for the comment and the question. To clarify, we're not allowed to 'offer' the PAR, but if you ask for it, we are allowed to give it. Basically, the request has to come from you. If you ask what approaches are available, we will omit PAR just in case we encourage somebody to take an approach that they're not familiar or trained on. If you specifically ask for a PAR then it's reasonably safe to assume you know what one is and how to do it. I hope that makes sense.

Hello! Thanks my friend, that's very kind. Unfortunately my finger isn't quite on the pulse anymore as I've been training and qualifying as a high speed train driver for a year or so. I realise that some of the reference websites ahave changed etc. so it is worth updating these at some point. I'll try and get my head back in the game when I'm not learning train routes.

Thanks for the video , Its nice to see someone still using the traditional ways with no ipad! Also I'm thinking about planning a flight from the uk to Germany ,Do you have any tips?
@Quantiad
@Quantiad 5 лет назад
Hi George. Sorry for the late reply. I've never ventured that far and therefore haven't explored the airspace or regulations. There's a page online entirely dedicated to flying to/from France, so maybe there's something similar for Germany. Crossing an international FIR boundary will require a flight plan, so have a look at the CAP694 for guidance on that. It has lots of useful examples. That's about as much as I can offer I'm afraid. Best wishes.

Fascinating stuff, i'm only a sim pilot but would like to try this, is there a video anywhere that shows the log/plan in use in the plane?

Quite simply the best VFR Nav video out there. I refer my students to it - this is clearer than I could ever be. I had a lifetime in Commercial Aviation, though my start was C-130's, and have only come to GA an Instructor in my dotage. I am of the opinion that we should be moving towards CBT for GA/PPL training, as there seems to be such a massive lack of any kind of standardisation in training, and dare I say it - only perfunctory briefings in many cases. I have a question - can I ask what software you used to generate these awesome videos?
@Quantiad
@Quantiad 6 лет назад
Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I'm a controller at Brize so I see the Alberts flying on a daily basis, though I suppose you're more familiar with Lyneham. I use the MemoryMap software with the CAA chart downloads (£20 each) and then basically just take screenshots, manipulate with bog standard Paint (free) and create a slideshow in PowerPoint. Then I screen record using Nvidia GeForce software that came with the graphics card. I voice record using Windows Voice Recorder (Free) and then edit it all in Vegas Movie Studio (£60). It takes a lot of time because I'm not an expert at this kind of thing but I think the effort is worthwhile and people seem to gain a lot from it. I also agree that training seems to be aimed at getting students through their PPL and not necessarily encouraging them to master the basic skills and keep them sharp. Most people I know are keen to ditch the wizz wheel and chart for an electronic flight computer and a GPS at the first available opportunity. In my opinion that's not only a mistake but also a shame for the art. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response... I am mightily impressed with your software choice - I was half expecting you to come back with Photoshop and all the adobe stuff, all hideously expensive. You were right - Lyneham, 24 and 47. Ah happy days! (At least in retrospect.....)
