Haegym is a musical instrument but it has a second meaning of 'freedom from the forbidden. Suga said in an interview about this song The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things?
Yes, you guys are perceptive. This is the 2rd in the triology of 3 songs that bascially are about his story. this it the second song the first was on his previous album D-2 called Daechwita and this one from his newest album D-Day with the finale part of the triology of songs also on his ablum D-Day called Armygdala. The album is fire. I have physical album as well as have it on spotify. He is the only Rapper to sell over 1million copies of a physical on it's release date. That's because most of us pre- ordered. But yeah he hold the record as a Rapper for a Rap Album.
Agust D is Suga from BTS and they’re so dope. I like how you (the one on the right side) caught the key lines in it that says the meaning of Haegeum. People say it’s the instrument, I mean, it is being used in the song, but the message of the song is not about that as you can see in the lyrics. Freedom or lifting of the ban on what’s forbidden. My interpretation of the music video is the DA or cop Suga is the corrupt system and street Suga defies that system. This is not exactly an unheard of topic from Suga or even BTS. BTS are global artists, they don’t fit in the confines of “kpop”. They write, composed and produce their music because they originally came from a small label whom encourages them to make music that comes from within themselves. They don’t do it to be famous and bs around, but they do have sh** to say and always have meaningful relatable lyrics. Even if it may not sound like it does because they’re bangers/just sounds so good, it’s usually something deeper than the surface.
I love when a rapper talks to you, not just a lyric, a rhyme, but musically, methodically; talks to you as if you are in the room. Suga/AgustD has that ability. Not many rappers can do that. To hit your soul not with just lyrics but inflection in their voice that can convey emotion where you as the listener "feel" the message is golden now-a-days past-time. his time!
When you watch the Daechitwa/Haegum/Amygdala trilogy, you’ll learn about the scar, and how his two sides - the greedy power-hungry side and the righteous rebellious side chase and destroy each other through time. It’s Suga’s commentary on his individual struggle, and also society writ large.
HOLY MOLY you guys really nailed the messages in the song!!! Suga has more than one song that speaks about his greed/ambition being one of the self-imposed shackles he wants to rid himself of, hence his killing that 'other side' of his personality....One if the things Suga wants to be free from is Korean societal expectations about what kpop idols have to be like in public - many normal things that regular people do are considered scandalous if kpop idols are seen doing them....like smoking, which is specifically why Suga included that action in this video.... Just a few months before this video was released, Suga's BTS bandmate, Taehyung, was photographed smoking by paparazzi and the photos of it that were released caused an uproar in Korea.... Despite the fact that MANY Koreans smoke and it's considered totally mundane, kpop idols are held to a different standard and aren't 'allowed' to smoke, or swear, or make any kind of mistake without people calling for them to be condemned and cancelled... Suga is sick of this double-standard
Heyo! Just found you guys in my recommended and you're really fun to watch! "Haegeum" has two meanings. First, it's a traditional Korean string instrument which you can actually hear in the opening of the song and throughout it as well. It has that kinda creepy, mournful sound. The word is also used as slang for "freeing the forbidden" or unlocking something. Agust D (SUGA/Yoongi) talked about how he used to play a rhythm game on his phone and the word was used when you unlocked a hidden or special track. In the context of the song, haegeum is used to talk about the various ways we shackle ourselves in terms of society, our ways of thinking, etc, and his desire to be free from that. But at the same time, there's a balance to be struck between freedom and self-indulgence, and freedom also means being responsible for the consequences of your actions, which can be dire. This is probably at least in part referencing a tragic situation in which some idols were bullied to the point of taking their own lives a few years back. People used their freedom to say what they want and took things to the extreme. Agust D (and the rest of BTS) knew those idols and I suspect a couple of other lines in their rapline (SUGA (AgustD), J-Hope and RM) song "UGH!" also reference this. This song/MV is actually the second in the Agust D "trilogy" - the first is "Daechwita" off his 2020 mixtape "D2", then there's "Haegeum," and finally "Amygdala". If you watch "Daechwita", it has very similar themes to the "Haegeum" MV and you'll notice a ton of parallels that are there on purpose. He's always fighting the parts of his past self that he wants to kill off, whether it's greed, anger, corruption, his own personal traumas, etc. "Amygdala" is a huge shift in tone but it explains why the scarred Agust D is how he is and how he got the scar. I'd recommend watching "Daechwita" next - the MV is a whole movie. I really hope you'll keep diving into BTS as a group as well as all their solo projects. There is so much amazing music and content. :-) Cheers!
I recommend you to react to A guide to bts members the bangtan 7 by Taylor to know them better if you haven't reacted to that . My suggestion is react to bts rapline cypher medley live performance. Suga's song haegeum have dance Choreography you should check that out also.
Woah! Great reaction and you got the meaning!! This is part if a trilogy of Suga constantly fighting himself and finding ways to freedom. Daechwita is the first part, then Haegum, and amygdala explains his trauma and scar in the videos.
I loved watching you guys facial expression the moment Suga stabbed the long hair guy with chopstick. Yes it's kind like a movie, This is tHe 2nd of his trilogy songs ( DAECHWITA, HAEGEUM and AMYGDALA) thats the way how uniquely Suga aka Agust D do, whenever he do an MV to his music.theres always a storyline . Amazing Production, cinematic, visual, rapping🔥, lyrics 🔥, beat🔥. Suga aka Agust D, amazing rapper, producer, songwriter, composer, dancer everything about him is 🔥. I cannot wait for him and the rest of the boys to be out in the military and for them to come back together in 2025, it will be a big celebration for BTS× Army! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
You could say AgustD is a bit intense 😂 He is the sole writer and producer of the song and MV. He’s got genius level musical abilities using things like a traditional Korean instrument the Haegum a two stringed instrument in the song itself and to hint his dual nature as two characters. His rapping is frequently about deep topics and social commentary. He’s fighting the greedy part of himself that wants power/money. His inner anger. Many hints to the Joker. Nobody does it quite like him. BTS rapline are all so immensely talented.
The look on your faces is priceless well to our Rapper Suga (aka Agust D) he's hardcore and we love him we love are BTS Rappers they never disappoint. Oh fellow Brit here great to see you lads reacting.
Lol 3 10 seconds in...yoongi (agust d/suga) stabs with chopsticks ...leaves mouths wide open...welcome to the amazing world of agust d...thank you for reacting 💜💜
This song is part of a trilogy, first is Daechwita then Haegeum and finally Amygdala. Daechwita is a form of Korean military music and Haegeum is an instrument but it also has a different meaning which is freedom from the forbidden. Each video he kills a negative part of himself. His stuff is seriously deep and has strong meaning. He is a lyrical genius.
Haegum is part two of a trilogy. The Agust D (Suga spelled backwards and DT from the town he is from Daegu, SK) Trilogy. The trilogy songs/MV are is Daewitcha, Haegum and Amygdala. The brother with the Durag and the hoodie was kinda/partially right, on the meaning of this song. The trilogy is a roadmap of Suga's (real name Min Yoongi) real life. Of things Yoongi has gone thru from before and since he has become a member of BTS. The three songs/MV have a much deeper meaning and you can watch explanation videos of the songs, since the songs are in Korean, they have Korean cultural meanings and definitions.
Check out the BTS rappers, there are 3 of them: RM, Suga, and J-Hope. RM is the lead rapper and overall leader of the group, he's the only one that can speak English fluenly. Suga also goes by Agust D when he does his solo music, and it's also kind of his alter ego name as well. J-Hope is not only a rapper but he's also the lead dancer of BTS. Here are some recommendations of some music videos/tracks you should listen to: Suga/Agust D: Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala (in that order, it's a trilogy and tells a story), Agust D (self titled track), and Give it to Me. All those have music videos, but also listen to the songs D-Day, Huh?!, and SDL, there's no music video for those ones, but they're really good. RM: Joke (watch the music video with the English translation!), Monster (no music video but really good), Do You, Persona (under BTS but it's solely him on the track), Still Life with Anderson Paak, Wildflower, and Closer (no music video) J-Hope: Arson, More, Airplane, On The Street with J Cole, Ego, 1 Verse, Base Line, and HangSang (the last 3 don't have music videos but they're really good). Also check out the tracks Ddaeng and Ugh! that the 3 of them did, and their Cyphers that they also did together too, there are 4 cyphers. Cypher Pt. 3 is the favorite in the fandom but my favorite is Cypher Pt. 4. Hope you enjoy! 😊
You could react to Agust d by Agust d, Daechwita, Arson by jhope, more by jhope, ugh by bts, Cypher 1,2,3 and 4 by bts. This is just a few of the best ones
Don't forget to activate the subtitles when you listen to and watch BTS songs to understand better, keep reacting to them, they have a good discography as a group and as soloists. :)
Jekyll and Hyde reference was WILDDDDDD LMFAO A few things: •Haegeum describes a traditional Korean instrument (which can be heard in the track) but it also has another meaning of lifting of a ban. •His real name is Min Yoongi, he is a member of BTS, agust d is his “alter ego” kinda like a persona created to promote detached narratives, yet they are still very personal and hold deep meaning. •BTS is actually a very rap heavy group (ig so is a lot of other kpop groups but their lyrics are one of the finest and most authentic amongst the others) •the meaning always gets lost in translation. You can’t just read the lyrics on surface level; sometimes you can’t even make sense of them so, they need some heavy dissecting. (Explanation videos helpful) Thanks for youse reaction
@@2322zelda I agree. He would be an amazing actor. Also I cant believe he thinks he isn’t handsome enough to be an actor. Like really!? (He said this with the interview with IU)
@@amberpearce710 unfortunately it’s due to Korean beauty standards. As a Korean myself, it seems to be said from an “objective” perspective, as if there were an objective measurement of how beautiful one is regarding their standards. Even though it mostly applies to celebrities, it trickles down to the general population of Korea, too.
I wish we could see more shows and movies in Korea with people that are considered “average”, I think it would really open up their hearts to differing viewpoints around the world 🌍
Welcome to the ARMY !! 😂YOU guys are the best ! Fun fact Agust D (DT ( deachwita )is the district where they called him to tell him he was a new member of BTS - AND SUGA is spelled backwards so (SUGA DT) I 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜HEART you🔥🔥🔥he is MY FAVORITE EVER !!!!!!
Just discovered you guys! I legit laughed when y’all’s mouth fell open at the beginning! Suga aka Agust D aka Min Yoongi is a member of BTS and he is a Phenomenal artist! He’s a freakin lyrical genius, producer, and performer. He is DEEP and Intense while performing, but low key is so chill. Cant wait to watch you guys react to more of his music, which will end up making you fall down the rabbit hole known as BTS. All 7 members are phenomenal Artist. Oh…..this is going to be so much fun!
i think you gonna like korean hip hop like big naughty, woo wonjae, vinxen, AOMG and epik high because their lyric and music is good, and i recommend to hear gray 119 remix, you gonna see so many good rapper
All of BTS songs have deeper meanings.. people who dont understand just judge them because of their musoc in the west but all of theor myaoc have deeper meanings
Your interpretation of the video and the song is spot on and you also got the meaning of the word haegeum right! Check out more agust and his bandmates jhope and RM. The trio also makes songs together under the name BTS.
This is part of a trilogy. 1. DAECHWITA, fighting against proffessional barriers blocks 2. HAEGEUM fighting against societal barriers blockages. 3 AMYGDALA personal barriers. In the first 2 Suga plays both the poor rebel leader with his supporters, and the abusive power figure. It's clear which side Suga is on. All he needs to take on the corruption of those in power are his two chopsticks( he started with nothing) and his supporters.
He wrote, composed and produced this song entirely by himself! You guys should also check out his dance practice video for Haegeum, he did a sick hip-hop style choreography for it.
*Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden. Agust D wrote and produced this song himself. His is the only one with credits on this song. He used Haegeum in the song, you can hear it at the beginning. You should react to his first MV Daechwita, because it's the first in the series, and it's from his second mixtape, D-2 in 2020. This song is from his most recent full album D-Day in 2023. I'll link the song below. As well as the final song Amygdala, from D-Day as well. That one tells his story. Agust D - Daechwita (turn on CC's) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qGjAWJ2zWWI.html *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.) Agust D - Amygdala (turn on CC's) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IX1dkYoLHVs.html *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.
I adore this hooman as a person and artist. Such an incredibly wise and talented ARTIST. He is involved in every aspect of his music which earns him even more respect from me.
Hi, UK ARMY here. (ARMY is the BTS fandom, not the actual army!) Listening to the rappers in BTS may surprise you. That is how I got into BTS. Try MONSTER by RM and 1VERSE by JHOPE. You will have to do lyric videos as there are no videos for these. You definitely won't regret it.💜
You guys are SO OBSERVANT Its one of the first times Ive seen people who arent ARMY(BTS FANS) Realize that he's killing himself to get rid of the toxic side of himself.
Shout out to UK reactions! Please watch more August D (Suga)! And definitely more Stray Kids please you guys are missing out! Recommend "3RACHA" and "Easy" pls the Stays will come flooding in
5:08 **There's actually a big statement behind the tune** 😂 Guys, Min Yoongi/Suga/AgusTD may be well known for making sick *"tunes"* but believe me, he's sicker with his writing. So yeah, *"Statements"* (especially the kind that jarrs the mind awake) expected every time he puts out anything. Hope you look into more of his music and that of BTS as a whole too, love this reaction (and y'all were really quick to catch unto some of the salient messages)
You know there is an explained video for this song. With BTS, whenever you watch something that leaves with questions, you most likely will find a video on RU-vid explaining the song. The 2 biggest channels for explanations are Bookish Theories and DKDKTV.
😂 Great job trying to understand the genius that is Min Yoongi/Suga/August D. There is some history that helps put his videos in context. Check out the first one
Loved watching you try to decipher the story of the MV and also follow the lyrics... And then you got caught in his flows sometimes too. Awesome reaction. And you got a lot of it! Yoongi is very good at what he does. He has stories to tell, and he's a brilliant writer and performer.
