The original S200 systems had ranges up to 300km. No reason more modern fuels shouldn't have increased that range I suppose, the obvious issue is the radar coverage to target at that range - enter stage right Ukrainian Intelligence I guess with either small systems in Russia or perhaps a way to hack Russian systems. So deep in their own territory I can't imagine the Russian crews being too alert to the threat until it was too late.

Really? Armed with cruise missiles. Missiles designed to be deployed outside of the range of enemy defences was shot down by the defences it is designed to negate.
