I'm pretty sure neither side is innocent, so instead we should wish both countries' citizens prosperity or something. When the Soviet Union fell apart, many people who identified as proud Russians found themselves suddenly belonging to a different country. For decades, this has been a source of contention in areas such as the Donbass region. It's unfortunate that the issue couldn't be resolved diplomatically, and it certainly doesn't justify invading a sovereign country, but Putin's excuse of national security has some merit. It's difficult for an Australian to understand when the worst we have to worry about is the Kiwis beating us at rugby because we're an island nation.
