For me this is what Eurovision should be about taking some of the country's traditional elements and mixing it with the new. This is a massive improvement on last year. It's like being at a Ukranian rave
I'm glad you guys can appreciate aspects of this song, it's fine if you don't like it. For me it's absolutely the best entry this year by far. Dark, electronic, upbeat, cool vocals, great lyrics...it's just not another cookie cutter song with the same old beat and boring lyrics. It isn't very sonically accessible for most people, which is a shame, because it's probably one of the most unique entries this year. I really think Go_A stands out from the pack, whether you like it or not it's certainly different.
I totally agree that this song is great, though I'm from Russia and I'm jealous and want our entry to be the best, but I can't deny that GoA was incredibly cool last year with "Solovey" song, and they seem to be even better and more mature this year with this "Vesnyanka" (both Solovey and Vesnyanka are birds names). The lyrics in both are traditional Slavic songs and traditional Slavic tunes and ethnic vocals manner given this dark electronic vibe and beat, it is something mesmerizing. If I were not so jealous, I would definitely vote for this one as a winner)
@@lilybell82 omfg. vesnyanka is a bird you say, girl i can't 🤣🤣🤣why the fuck do you misinform if you don't even speak the language, oh these all knowing russians. google is free btw
Secondary! That's what I think when I listen to the songs presented at Eurovision! We have already heard all this. In pursuit of trends, musicians become faceless. Like everyone else! But I can't say that about the representative from Ukraine! This year's competition will show what Europeans like more - fast food or gourmet cuisine!
Shum is a powerful💪 composition ! Very different from the euro pop ballads🍔 . Unique mix folk+modern techno ! Cool bit🥁🎹 ! Bridge with electric guitar🎸 and flute🎺 is amazing ! SlowMo ! Build up the rhythm⬆️ ! Fast , fast ....Rave party at the club🎛️💃 !
Thanks for reaction, we all were waiting for it. Respect for an honest opinion despite your love for Ukrainian artists. we appreciate it and don't get upset if you don't like something. -))

This songs is based on a traditional springtime ritual from Chornobyl Polissia (Northern Ukraine) region, which was heavily affected by the Chornobyl disaster. In the video. you could see a Chornobyl sarcophagus/ dome in the background. This year we marked 35th anniversary since the disaster. In my view, this music piece was inspired and dedicated to the people who lived there. After the explosion, they were evacuated and spread out all over the country. Therefore, the language variant that they spoke, their traditions, their vocal manner, cultural artifacts are mainly lost. In a way, with this song Go_A pays tribute to the lost culture... This is how I feel about this music piece
Shum means noise, but it's also an old Slavic pagan god of spring and forests, so in this case I would say she sings about him... I prefer this version over the original one, especially when it comes to lyrics - it's not that monotonous as it was before when she was repeating the same lines again and again... Glad to hear that you appreciate its originality and uniqueness ❤️❤️ And I'm looking forward to seeing your reaction to the Albanian revamp 😊
No come on.. It reminds me of the whole trance nature parties scene. According to some "Shum" is the forest God or something and the whole song seems like a moving from winter to spring celebration. I loved it
As a Ukrainian born growing up with their folk music all around me my favourite music genre is Ukrainian folktronica. It's understandable that not everyone likes it, but I'm glad i read the comments before watching this, since I might get very triggered and I like you guys so I don't want to hate on you. I'll skip on this video and will vote the most on this song, since for me it is very meaningful, relevant, simply beautifully made and aesthetically pleasing. Not everyone has to like it, but I don't want to watch people criticising it or the singing since that's my favourite singing technique out there (for someone who gets it and sings like that from time to time at least). I also moved out of Ukraine and this genre makes me feel connected to my home. Hope y'all understand. Glad that you liked the russian entry though since it has some folk influences in the chorus too.
I loved the song before the revamp so the new version definitely took some getting used to, however I love it as well and it's constantly stuck in my head. It's my current 4th place in my top and I like it so much more than last year
ok, i didn't like the song for the first 3 times listening to it, i even used to complain that the previous Shum was better :/ But then suddenly i started to love it, and it's now #1 ❤️️ It's so freshy, and dark, and it's like a spring brook or a spring anthem or anyhthing connected with spring maybe it's just for folk lovers like me 😅 I'm just afraid that it wouldn't be appreciated as much as it deserves to at the contest 🤔
I think all Russians are going to like it and appreciate this music more than others, as it’s very close to our folk music with modern beat and super creative. I enjoyed this. Ukraine 👍🏻👏🏻
Since you guys weren't sure about meaning of shum in ukrainian, here's the explanation. Usually it means noise as you said, but in this particular case it's a name of the forest spirit. (And by dancing they are trying to wake him up so that spring starts sooner)
(1) the song is love/hate polarizing mostly because of Kateryna's voice and singing style; (2) the 1st impression (frequently negative) of this song is actually strongly affected by SHUM-1.0; however after some time needed for adapting from 1.0 to 2.0, the revamped song easily becomes addictive for those who accept Kateryna's voice... my opinion could be biased, since I'm an Ukrainian, but I see Go_A as a 'dark horse' of the ESC2021...
Mad Max🚜 + Trinity💊(The Matrix) + The Walking Dead🎥(*sorry)+ Chernobyl HBO☢️= new dance🎛️💃 version Shum 2.0 ! *** (whimsical steampunk car) + (Ukrainian Trinity) + (infected) + (sarcophagus of the 4th reactor).Symbolizes rebirth and life🌈! Spring will save everything!
Spring song🌺 to awaken the earth🌍 and save from Covid-19, global environmental problems. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster☢️!!! **Hemp plant sown to make fabric! The singer waves her arms like wings! Mask on the nose is a stylized falcon's beak🦅! At the end of the clip, two falcons (hawks) look into each other's eyes👁️! The falcon and Shum is the spirit of the forest🌲🌲!
I think that in stage is gonna be insane!! The end.. I'm so fucking excited!... Me at first was like... Mmmm not bad! But now... Im always waiting to listening to in the playlist when im in the gym or just cleaning my house. Make me dance!
I think the song is great and good choice for Eurovision - something traditional with something new. But still it's too unusual for Europeans, so we may have problems with getting into final. Staging also is very important, hope, it will be good. But if we don't qualify, I won't regret - they participate not for win, but to share Ukrainian songs.
It's because prior to Soviet Union they grew hemp widely used for clothing, they even make a blessing "let's your hemp grow high up to ceiling height", up to this day in some parts of Ukraine. And they were burning it and inhaling too I suppose as bonfire was very normal in rural parts. That's why vast Ukraine from Sian river (present Poland) stretching to Don river (present Russia) as Ukrainians sing in the anthem didn't care much of protecting borders, and they suffered from Poles, Lithuania, Austria-Hungary, Russia and Turkey more or less throughout centuries. Fertile land, plenty of food, hemp bonfire, singing what else to do😂 after hemp was banned, communism massacre ended, they got sober, and remembered about protecting borders recalling Cossacks (free soldiers) from Eastern Ukraine Zaporozhye and are standing for freedom 😀
I do appreciate your opinion but I dont like it. You become to boring and can not just fun. Sorry guys but u expect more maruv and you are seems not more open for anything else. Pitty I may stop to check your channel... :(
like it,its eurovision i want badly to see cause really most songs is out of inspiration this year.only six-seven-eight songs are nice.why as time passes eurovision want to pretend more quality and we lost all the fun.this song gives me ukraine felling,i like it.the musik, song its from the songs i want them to be on the contest.but really many boring as fuck.kisses from greece guys,i always come back to your channel at times of eurovision...

I like the song but Ukraine is a country at war and I found the military references/ esthetics a little bit disturbing. Yes I know what steampunk is, but still.
@Happy Peppy Hey I'm not pointing finger at any country here, just talking about the esthetics in the video, I would say the same if the Russian video did such references too.
The video is awful. No single image remains for more than 2 seconds. That is what you do if you have no story to tell, no trust in the viewer to possess any patience, and are desperately attempting to give a song some drive that it lacks. - The main problem with the song, though, is that the voice is relentless, hectoring, and I just want it to stop.
@@Angelina-nh3bq With respect, it is not good enough to blithly accuse someone of having a closed mind simply for having an opinion, and (most probably) an opinion that does not concur with yours. If you like the song and it speaks to you, then that is great. Every opinion is valid. I would never accuse you of being closed minded for not agreeing with me. Why? Because I cherish pluralism. Do you?
Alipan Roosendaal When you don't like something, it's okay. But calling it smth awful/abnormal, etc. is not okay. If u don't like this song, that's ok. But if you call this video and song awful, just because your ego does not allow u to accept the fact that your brain is not capable of thinking wider, it is commonplace stupidity. I’ll never call smth that I don’t like awful. According to your words, all people who like this video like awful things.. And with these words you no longer express your opinion, but humiliate other people
@@Angelina-nh3bq - So, by your reckoning if I say I don't like something, then I am automatically condemning anyone else who does. (!) I am absolutely not doing that. Did I say that? No. I even reiterated that in my response to you. If you like it, that's fine. Seemingly you would prefer a world where nobody criticises anything out of fear that some vulnerable person somewhere might take it personal. We are discussing songs for a frothy escapist song festival here. Thus, taking any of this so serious is kind of laughable in itself. I am from the UK and our song is bland rubbish. I live in the Netherlands and their song is dreadful. It would be a strange world where I had to say they were both good in case I "might" offend someone.
Alipan Roosendaal If you do not understand what I am talking about, then I cannot help you. I said that it is normal to share the opinion about not liking something and that there are different opinions. But I'm also talking about the fact that if you don't like smth, it does not mean that it is smth awful. It just doesn't suit your taste, but it isn't awful. You exist on the planet, you have family/friends who like you as a person. But there is also someone who does not like you (and this is absolutely normal, all of us are not liked by someone), but that does not make you awful/disgusting/meaningless at all.
