The US started this war by funding the undermining and ultimate revolt against the democratic government in Kiev in 2014. Why does the US imagine it can manipulate governments around the world without any backlash? It's an incredible philosophy. The forever expansion of NATO and therefore US influence - which the US is obsessed with, is the backdrop to this disaster. The US trying to force NATO expansion triggers Russian response. How do you think the US would respond to Russian nuclear missiles being based in Cuba? Would the US be passive? Well, look at the raft of sanctions and limitations that still exist against Cuba from 60 years ago. South of Ukraine is different to the north of Ukraine. Largely Russian speaking and with numerous concerns about the Kiev government. The simplistic presentation of this conflict simply serves the American narrative.
