But Russia is no on the defensive and will have to protect the territory they occupy. They don't fully control any of the regions they claim as Russia (except Crimea). They don't even occupy the regional capitals in the south. If they truly have met all their goals, it suggests the failed attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv were a waste of Russian lives.
@joe-ey9ir I don't want to continue analysing the situation... However, there are 2 things history has told us about wars... And 1 of them is: the country that wins the conflict, very rarely cares about rebuilding cities (there goes the holding of the region capitals) and 2 - a diversion is only successful when the opposition buys it... Russia haven't established air superiority yet, not because Ukraine can shoot down all of them, but rather because they haven't tried. Something is telling me that Russia has no need for the whole of Ukraine... It's a big, poor and rather undeveloped country... No army can hold a country even half the size of Ukraine by force.
@@kamenko1 Russia would benefit A LOT from having access to Ukraine grain and black sea ports. There is incentive to take more of Ukraine. Not trying for air superiority would be stupid strategy and could maybe explain Russia's disgustingly high casualties. But we have seen lots of Russian air casualties too. I think they are trying for air superiority but there is a MANPAD waiting at every turn, complicating the process.

@@kamenko1 If Putin's goal was severely degrading his land forces so that he could control the least important 18% of the country (economy wise), then I guess he succeeded. However, Ukraine has made it very clear that they do not intend to stop this war anytime soon. Zelensky himself recently vowed that this war will "end on Russian territory". I don't believe it will but it does show Ukraine's mindset going forward. This war is not stopping anytime soon.
