This is not how things work today. Since the two policymakers Jake Sullivan and Jens Plötner have decreed the non-escalation doctrine for the West, NATO will go to all lenghts to evade any direct military confrontation with Russia. In layman's terms: Russia can do, whatever it wants to do.

I think, it's larger, because their military did grow. I also think, they won't try to invade Taiwan now, but in a few years. That's why they build up their military for a decade now, and they have to do something about their economy. Taiwan is number 1 microchip producer, but even if China doesn't conquer Taiwan, and just destroys the factories, China will be number 1, with inferior chips, but still. It could save their economy, and it would weaken all western countries, that depend on Taiwan's chips. If they get the factories, it's just a bonus. I think, they want to help Russia, so Russia can attack europe, and europe would have to stay out of a war between China and the US and Taiwan. The US would stop fighting, after the microchip factories are destroyed, Europe would get tired of a war after a short time, russia would make peace, would most likely get a great deal, even though europe is stronger, so I am very concerned about the current situation and the rest of this decade 😕

@@mrsmerily Well. How much it would affect Russia if all its vessels would be stopped by vessels that belong to NATO, even civilian vessels. It would pretty much be blockade that would leak with large enough military escort, or with ships that are not Russian owned either directly or indirectly. But maybe more reasonable enforcement of new maritime borders would be just board and inspect every non-military vehicle, and escort the military vehicles through previously international waters. Something like this oil-tanker doesn't have good enough insurance or is in too bad condition to go through our waters. Basically, pushing back with a threat that NATO can blockage Gulf of Finland, but we just enforce some safety rules and current sanctions for traffic going through our waters.

I am worried, they don't care. They will use civilian ships for that. The problem I see, is, how many launching platforms does Taiwan have? What about china's navy's air defense? If they can cross the street in 6 - 8 hours, if they use 1.000 vessels, would Taiwan be able, to launche thousands of missiles in this time period, to overwhelm china's air defense and sink the fleet? I doubt they have enough missiles. To compare: The biggest cruise missile power in NATO is the US with around 10k or more. 2nd will be Poland soon with 1k. 3rd is the UK with 900. So if Taiwan doesn't have thousands of anti ship missiles, and I doubt it, China will be able to overwhelm them, and artillery won't be enough to sink this landing ships. Even, if China loses half of the fleet, they would do it. Also China will prepare the attack: First they will attack with missiles and jets to destroy launching platforms and coast defense. Then they will use at least hundreds of landing ships, covered by the navy. They have hundreds, maybe even over 1.000, prepared. All their civilian ships are designed for landing operations. So I think, they could do it, and I think, the best way to destroy landing ships would be high caliber coast artillery in fortified positions. I mean, really high caliber, like battleships, or close to it. Not 155mm, at least something like 25cm. It's cheaper than missiles, hits harder, the range still is 40km, it can fire 3 times a minute, modern aiming equipment will make it accurate, you can fire out of big bunkers and it is enough to sink most vessels with a few hits. With 40km range, you could fire around 2 hours at the enemy before they can land, so around 150 - 200 rounds per piece of artillery, so if they could build so if they would build around 50 such artillery positions at the coast, so that every possible landing position is covered by ~10, it could make a landing operation impossible, even with 1.000 ships. Such wars are about efficiency, and I know, big artillery is WW2 style, it has a short range, but it's cheap, it's very hard to destroy bunkers for such artillery, even with modern weapons, and that's why I think, they don't just need modern weapons, they need something with low operational costs, that can easily destroy slow landing ships, even if it's less accurate than missiles with far less range
