The Ukrainian armorer is taking apart a 40 mm grenade and threw away the low velocity power cartridge that launches the grenade. He removed the gold colored fuse cap from the fuse assembly and drilled a hole and inserted a white colored rod to hit the fuse igniter to detonate the grenade at a lower force when dropped from the drone instead of being fired from a grenade launcher and added 3D printed plastic case and fins. Necessity is the mother of inventions.
They also seem to add some kind of copper cone to the grenade? I assume to turn it into a HEAT projectile to defeat the thin top-armour of IFV's like BMP 2 and 3?
Using those single grenades for pinpoint strikes really maximizes their impact. While a single grenade is unlikely to kill reliably, it has fantastic wounding capabilities. The shrapnel lining on those rounds is nasty and has a large wounding range. And as conventional warfare goes, a wounded soldier requires considerably more resources to keep alive and rehabilitate than a dead soldier.
this is true, you can say this is the most humane weapon that is now in the war, it usually injures the enemy and the enemy can usually be evacuated. A wounded enemy is a big problem, since soldiers and resources are needed to evacuate him.
Don't forget that they live in filthy conditions and have poor resources. The bacteria entering each wound is a recipe for sepsis and death. They may also be blinded, removing them from future redeployment.
I'm not Ukrainian, I'm not even European but I want to thank all the people who help and support Ukraine. I also believe it is worth noting that even though the war, right now, is in Ukraine, the battle is for ALL the FREE world, the West, the EU and NATO countries. Slava Ukraine.
180 degrees twisted reality. Pro ukraine = globalist NWO, Pro Russia = multipolare worldorder, peace and fair trade. The People are for a multipolare worldorder and peace, only people without geopolitical knowledge support Ukraine, the angloamerican hegemony and unipolare worldorder.
I'm American and I think the Dr Strangelove in the White House is the greatest threat to global survival. He's not only senile, he's a warmongering lunatic.
You have to admit to the craftsmanship that the people who are fighting for freedom in Ukraine are not seen by the world since the underground of WWII and their passion for their country is the driving force Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
Lol. I’m pretty sure they showed us a similar video on ammunition handling labeled “things not to do with live ammo”. I’m totally amazed at the skill and ingenuity of the Ukrainian fighters. Amazing work. My hats off to you
During WWI combatants figured out real quick that killing an enemy only eliminates one soldier from the battlefield and no more resources are spent on him other than recovery after the battle. However, if they only wound a soldier, it usually takes at least two other soldiers to evacuate him from the battlefield and lots of resources are used up on him. With one shot three enemy soldiers are immediately removed from the battlefield. Most grenade strikes don't kill, but they wound and that's what makes them such a great weapon to reduce the number of enemy from the battlefield!
@Sam3460 I don't believe that's a cited reason NATO adopted the 5.56mm. More it is less weight (ergo can carry more rounds), flatter trajectory and less recoil.
For normal armies it may take two men to carry a casualty out for aid. In the Russian army it doesn't matter because they just abandon wounded colleagues.
Not to mention the fear and demotivation effect! Seeing a fellow being killed may incite others to revenge, but seeing him wounded can make one fear suffering like him!
Observation via drone has changed war. These gimmics are not really relevant, they are just really well televised. Drone-corrected artillery delivers more bang per round than the entire stores in this clip.
@@Superfly-Jimmy-Snuka 🤣🤣🤣 Putrid's 3 day war is now in its second year, he's lost most of the territory he had stolen in the first days, he has lost 200,000 troops to death or wounds 20 dead generals Hundreds of tanks & planes 17 ships including his precious flagship the Moskva a million men have run away from mobilization thousands are surrendering Morale is low the troops have no modern equipment no hot food no water no proper helmets or protection he resorts to untrained prisoners ffs Russian troops are living in filth their commanders are useless and get shot in the back And his economy is TANKING Billions in cash, bank accounts, properties yachts, private planes, etc have been confiscated from him and his minions... It's Russia that's losing bud, open your eyes!
Slava heroes. You are an example for the rest of the free world by your valiant and genius conduct in defense of your homeland, your values and your future. Salutation and respect from Australia.
The fact that they're still blowing apart multi-million dollar Russian tanks with relatively cheap drones still blows my mind That Russian turret and it's design to store the tank rounds/ammo there is definitely it's Achilles heel
What a great People. I never get tired of watching the lovely work and action of the magnificent so courageous highly skilled Ukrainian patriots 😍 They're on the most important of all *missions* -- to save their families, their home, their beautiful Nation!! We EU-ropeans have a lot to learn from Ukraine's precious lessons!
I was 2IC of our asymmetric enemy force in our manoeuvre training centre. I wrote a huge briefing note describing tactics like this on the horizon in 2016 and asked to purchase drones like the mavic and phantom to use in OPFOR and hopefully to develop countermeasures. The idea was dismissed as unrealistic in modern warfare. It burns me when the non innovative folks hold positions of power.
The technique doesn't put money into the big defense contractors pockets. The American military command isn't beyond a little Graft every once in awhile. 💙🇺🇲💕 Slava Ukraini 💛🇺🇦💙
This war is really being fought from the front and a lot of it is on the fly and I've never seen anything so efficient the top brass would do well to recognize and encourage it.
Well, the Ukrainians and their lateral thinking have changed the face of modern warfare forever. The Russians, however, are dullards in the schoolroom of war. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
The drilling was done just to the endcap after it had been removed, but I hear you, for me I think sawing off the propellant charge, or unthreading the cap from the explosive with the pipe wrench would be the most nerve racking.
Respect and love for Ukraine. They have shown the world how to stand against bully aggression. May they prevail against the Russian thugs, rapists and other unwilling conscripts.
This is cool I’ve been wandering how the Ukrainians have been altering grenades to drop from drones like this, I never even thought about the M209 grenadine launcher rounds being used for this purpose, but it’s a great idea!!
must be very frustrating, embarrassing, scary for the Russians to know their big expensive toys aren't as good as the hobby shop drone, some mechanical adjustments with some basic tools and some smart Ukraine's can't beat.
You will remember that these clever guys caused a lot of chaos on the 50 mile long Russian convoy. May all of the God's bless them for their brilliance.
that little shaped charge at 0:54 is awesome i always thought these were just impact grenades but now I know they're actually shaped charges that will penetrate the top of the tanks
I am absolutely fascinated by those miniature shaped charges, and apparently they are dual-purpose, which means that the casing creates the shrapnel effect and the shaped charge is for penetration (correct me if i'm wrong). Would love to see one of these in slow-mo
The first clip where the operator drops the munition through the tanks open hatch is equivalent to a 500-yard " hole in one!!" Slava Ukraine from USA !!!
I know modern grenades have several safety features to prevent accidental detonation, such as arming distance or inertial fuses, but man. Taking one apart with a pipewrench and hacksaw still carries a pretty high pucker factor.
The drone at the end looked to be a Mavic 3T drone which can stay up 30 minutes. But 30 minutes may not be long enough so it looked like they modified the Mavic 3 to piggyback another battery to get extended flying time. I wouldn't be surprised if they are getting 50 minutes in the air, even longer if it's not freezing cold.
CNN, citing its sources in the Ukrainian General Staff, reports that on February 28, 2023, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to: ▪ 259,085 people killed, died from wounds, diseases; ▪wounded, crippled 246,904; ▪deserted, as well as missing - 83,952;
The drone wars... I finally feel old, having been on active duty in the USAF from 84 to 93. This is the first war which seems foreign, based on the technology.
I would like to mention how they're able to post this footage which practically shows the manufacturing of IDEs. And some independent channels can't even do a somewhat more technical summary of what's happening currently without getting demonetized age restricted or removed.
Just imagine the psychological effect: you are not safe anywhere, a drone can be above you right and the only way you notice is when you hear a grenade detonating next to you
Norway here, this is quite a show of force! To handle stuff with THIS level of knowledge doesnt normally happen in the field! You are writing history! Heroyam slava!
