I love this show so much. Such powerful imagery and message of struggle, hope, and endurance. I was so sad when the Maui Theatre in which they performed closed and even more so that it in all likelihood it perished in the Maui fires. The spirit of Ulalena lives on and one day I feel they will return again even more triumphant than ever.
I couldn't get enough of this special production, even after experiencing it 5 times. The band was fantastic and the percussionist was wild, a show in itself. I will always remember Ulalena! I still have the soundtrack and the poster signed by the original cast, proudly displayed on the wall. I always wished they had toured the world with this production, as it was truly special and unlike any other. Mahalo to the person who posted.
You are more than welcome! This show impacted me the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd times I saw it. I felt compelled to share it and I love that this is still resonating with folks. Aloha!
A dear friend from Wailuku was a part of the original production of Ulalena and sent me a cassette of the production in 1999, and a cassette of music they never put into the show that was so breathtakingly beautiful, and I will never forget it as long as I live. I always wished it had been released on vinyl, I always wished more people had watched and heard the production...
This show touched my heart so much, everytime I hear this song, I couldn't stop crying...It's like souls calling. I always wanted to be in the show, but so sad it's closed, hoping it′ll open again(^-^)/ I′m so curious about the unreleased song you mensioned.🥺❤️❤️❤️
