The counter balance isn't so that it returns to the centre. It's so that the camera stays in the position you leave it in. You set the counterbalance so that it maintains the same centre of gravity no matter how far you tilt it. You are setting it higher than needed for the setup you've used, hence having to apply force when tilting which isn't good at all.
Awesome video, any idea if the Video Fast ball head (not the legs but the head part) can be removed and attached to one of Ulanzi's smaller travel sized tripods? I'd rather save on the bulk weight of the legs and mount the smooth head to the slimmer ones if possible as I'm just using the tripod in my home studio. Look forward to what you think!
It's not dampering, it's dampening. Carbon fiber makes it way too light. Who wants a light weight tripod? The idea is have as steady a shot as possible. I bought the aluminum alloy leg version. Plus, I have an E Image super heavy duty.
