In 99 I found a CD from 4/30 1977 before Uli left the Scorpions and you can hear the direction he was going to with Electric Sun. Fortunately it was a very high quality, probably a soundboard recording. I was blessed to see Uli in 1985 and then again, (My last ever concert-I am disabled but pushed to see them,) in 2004 with Michael Schenker closing. Couldn't have ended ant better. 19 years Uli had not come and played in America. He did 2/4 Season of Vivaldi plus his 5th Season and Scorpions and Hendrix.
His solos are not easy, I guess that's maybe where as a guitar hero but yeah Scorpions had unique melodies that are out there, it commercial as post-Uli Scorpions which was a little more soft and round. The 70s Scorpions almost had some prog sounds going on too.
I remember seeing uli at the Edgewater in wisconsin in 1985. It was great 💯 i stood in front of him in the parking lot after the show. He was signing autograph for me. I think he knew i was a little buzzed. I was holding a six pack of lager by the plastic ring lol.
Uli I think made his first American tour in 1985 so that must have been wild. We have 30, 40 years of history to look back on. and it's hard to imagine when everything was so new, so fresh. It's almost like, what if he were more famous, would it spoil it or is it better he is relatively unknown outside of music heads. Imagine him playing Electric Sun on American TV..well he did on British TV, the old Grey Whistle Test and I love that, he did Starlight. I would have loved to have seen that band with Michael Flexig and Nicky Moore. He had Clive Bunker, 2 keyboardists, 2 backup singers, it as a lot of people but it ended up not being a profitable tour. AFter that he didn't release any music for 10 years but it gave him time to write and make even better music, classically oriented.
