Honestly what you describe is just so familiar to my XE S, had the V6 and i would casually get 40MPG consistently as the engine would stick at 650 RPM crusing and i just wouldnt use the power, I was even 27 when i got mine and it was a similar story, ex staff owned it AFAIK I just love this generation of jags, These days i just feel "if something went wrong though" they are a reliable car overall, but it does require attention like a luxury car of course, and overall i just want less tech, to the point where im considering getting another one, just to have a specialist strip all the gadgets down and it not be fussed that its missing 80% of the features that it comes with as standard ha.

@@CandyMan2001 Funny story there as when i had the XE S i was sold on that more than the RCF that i was looking at they were about the same price at the time but whilst the engine was lovely, it didnt feel as good as i expected it to, mind you the XE S i got was one where the previous owner ticked all the options except privacy glass and the heated steering wheel and i found that fantastic. Personally im still looking at the oddity of the RC 200t as i eye it up as "not so fast luxury coupe" i have the feeling there is a lot more to that car, and its not the easiest car to source a decent one for a price im willing to pay.

U had a 16 reg XE S. Nice car in pillar box red with black pack. Bit small though, especially in the back seat. Prefer the XF. Had a 13 reg Diesel S Portfolio. Very nice thing and recently sold a 17 reg Premium Luxury XJ. Before jumping into an F Type Dynamic 340 over the Christmas period. In a Cooper Works Mini at the mo. Funky little thing and pretty fun quick car.

@@A-world-of-My-Own Trouble is it's what sells cars, so you can't really have a luxury brand that doesn't have the gadgets in that you'd find as standard in the average Nissan or Kia. Most of the complaints in the reviews of the XF seemed to be that the interior was dated, and that was mostly aimed at the infotainment system. I'm not a fan of the newer design trend of a large touchscreen that looks as though it's been stuck on as an afterthought, I loved the earlier XF because it was built into the dash, but the latest one has the "floating" screen to accommodate the size of it. Just spoils the whole dash for me.

Ian fixed everything with the Jaguar XF estate. Similar space as the standard wheelbase. More cargo apace. Immensely better styling. A decade ago the X-type estate could be had for peanuts. The estate now five years old is holding its value better than anything in JLR's line up, including F-types, at least in the states.

Personally, I love the styling of the XJ even from the back. Nothing else in this class, has such beautiful lines. Hated the blacked out C-pillar when it was launched, and still think the air vents look like gargoyles in the dashboard, but apart from those minute details, I love the XJ.

I had the good fortune to own a Supersport for a while, and it was simply epic. Better-equipped than the R, slightly more pliant ride, slightly more subtle appearance. The looks grew on me more and more over time. Every journey was an occasion and the engine was perfectly happy either cruising gently or ripping your face off. We took it on a tour to Scotland and it was fabulous both at eating distances and blasting down twisty roads with the astonishing engine at full roar. I can confirm getting solidly into the 30s mpg on a long run, or about 5mpg in traffic. Don't sit in traffic. I think this car is a classic and I miss mine every day.

I went to a JLR dealer in Preston a few years a go with my brother who owned a XF, he went to get it serviced. I love Range Rovers so happily sat in them on the showroom floor and unfortunately was not impressed at all. So, I walked through the glass doors to the Jaguar showroom and looked at this beautiful car called the XJ! I got in and settled into the most comfortable, well fitting machine and fell in love. It's a beauty - the rear lights are very Facel Vega-esque and let's be honest the Facel Vega is an absolute beauty - just like the XJ.

My dream car would be this engine (and any other good bits) put into the much more beautiful yet also agressive and gangster X350 XJR in black with chrome bits. I dont mind the looks of these but they're not even close to being as good looking as the previous model. I'd give that lovely supercharged 5ltr V8 a tune for 600bhp too. This would then make my absolute ultimate family car. I'd have plenty of space for my 3 kids and such a classy looking inside n out perfect motor! Heaven! All i need to do now is buy the car, the engine, get the engine fitted and all set up properly, I'd need the better brakes all round too. So i need a lottery win ASAP, that'd help with the roadtax, insurance and fuel and running costs and...........

I've just bought an XJ ULTIMATE recently. Loving it so far but having to fix a few bits. It's a nightmare getting spares from Jag, a significant amount of them are out of stock, on indefinite backorder. There are some good independants out there inc SNG Barrett, Britishparts, justjags and Berkshire Jags who sell quality oem and aftermarket stuff, but with Jaguars move to EV (and the fact X351 were during Ford ownership) I wouldn't count on getting gen Jag parts at all...

Thank you for a wonderful review. In my younger days I loved the XJ , yet the later exterior styling was just too Ford Taurus-ish to appeal to me. Perhaps if I still had kids at home I might be a bit more enthusiastic. I'd MUCH rather have the XKR.

I just bought an 2014 last year with only 39,100 miles on it, all I love it. A very beautiful car, from the front to the back! I love that it's a smooth driving car, but can be a violent and aggressive car otherwise! It's a shame they stop making this flagship!

Loved the content, loved the JAAAGGG… BUT HAVE TO SAY, as a man who has loved the mark throughout my 50+ years…..a black Jag with full Black leather interior is the most spine tingling awesome JAAAAAAGGGGGG ever…throughout the history of Jaguar, any mark! But according to this chap, never by a black Jag wit full black interior…..a Jag with…shall we say…Lady of the Nights red Panties interior….is far superior…… Couldn’t possibly disagree more…absolute TOSH my friend!!!

This video most certainly caught my eye today. I was at work when it popped up. So having got back home, KFC in hand I sat down to watch your video. So thanks to this video in particular, the older I get, the more a Jaguar catches my attention. I was also lucky when I was much younger. I got the chance to drive my dad’s Jaguar’s. Both 4.2 Jaguar XJ’s. So I do remember how those felt. Even at speed that were like a red carpet. Anyway, great video. I’m looking on eBay & Autotrader now 😉

I had a X350 which I loved. I believe that was the last of the 'proper' Jags, they have to have walnut in abundance for me. My love of Jaguars died through it's woeful dealer network. I moved on to Lexus who were night and day above Jaguar in their treatment of customers. I never knew about this facelift model, it does look better, but still not my taste. Great video.

I disagree on the styling front - yes, it's very different from The Jaguar Look of every previous XJ variant, but this is really what they SHOULD have brought out when replacing the X300, rather than the pig-in-the-middle X350 that was on one hand 'A Jaaaag' and on the other hand high-tech-aluminium, but which failed to utilize the cache of the lightweight construction precisely because it looked like 'A Jaaaag'. I almost get the feeling that JLR product planners were on the wrong drug regime when developing the X350 and then the X250. The former had the cutting-edge construction but not the looks, the latter had the looks but was just an X200 under the skin. The X351 at least helped put that right. If I wanted a huge luxo-barge (and if I could fit a 5-metre-plus car in my garage), I'd have one.
