Wild Trout Man Fly Fishing Adventure for Native and Wild Trout in the Remote Mountains of Pennsylvania with my son, Julien. A two hour, two mile hike with a 1000 foot vertical drop in elevation to a pristine native brookie stream. Ahhhh, so amazing the beauty of Penn's Woods and the exquisite beauty of native brook trout!! Hemlocks, Ferns, Rhododendron, Moss and Mushrooms (Popinkis): It's quite the Garden of Eden, Fly Fishing Shangri-La and Middle Earth all wrapped into one. Come along for the ride. It's Blue Line Fly Fishing at its best!!
With these videos I showcase my passion for the sport, science, art and zen experience of fly fishing with breathtaking scenery and gorgeous wild fish. Tips, techniques and strategies are discussed for using dry flies, nymphs and streamers. The focus is on Class A Wild Trout Water, including Blue Line Natural Reproduction Streams; Matching the Hatch, Catch and Release, Macro Invertebrates and Stream Side Entomology.
Water is Life.
Cold, Clean Water is Critical.
Long Live the Native and Wild Trout.

Noticed you tied on a prince nymph, I catch many on a purple psycho prince nymph gold bead. Watched this again getting ready to go out and shovel snow!

Hi Berks, once you finished shoveling, I hope you went out to catch some snow trout!! I never used a psycho prince but I’m sure if it is presented properly with a good drift that it will work well. Thanks for watching!! 👊

Great Video! Thanks for sharing. I’m also from Pa… Such a beautiful place. Just purchased my first fly rod and plan to give it a shot this year!

Oh, that’s awesome Average Joe!! Be patient and practice your casting. It’s always a huge benefit when you can put your fly where you want it on the water instead of continuously in a tree. Though that’s going to happen sometimes anyway!! It’s truly a wonderful past time. There is a science, art and adventure aspect to fly fishing which just makes it truly wonderful. Enjoy and keep me posted how it’s going. Tight lines!!

Looks like the blazes for the Susquehannock trail/ Hammersley area. Those red berry clusters are seed pods from Jack-in-the -Pulpit. Looks like you and your son had an enjoyable time. Beautiful areas have beautiful fish!

Thanks for the alien pod ID!! So awesome…. The discovery and adventure aspect of these trips are memories forever and, yes, the beauty in these areas is breathtaking and to catch a native brookie just puts it over the top. How I love the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. These brookies sure have a beautiful home. Thanks for watching!! 👊

Awesome!! Thanks Damn Man and I’m glad you enjoyed. I love exploring and fly fishing small streams for wild trout. The scenery is always spectacular and catching a native brookie is just icing on the cake. 👊

Amazing video. So different from the usual post. Nice scenery during the hike, which there is plenty of here. That's what separates this from your other videos. Super super job. Now...were those trekking poles Star Trekking Poles ?? Cause it certainly seemed like you beamed onto another world judging by some of the flora here. Not to mention I'm glad you rescued Julian from that alien cocoon spun between the trees. The ending of this video looks like a "found footage" film. Something out of Blair Witch. Hope they found you two. 😂😂 Seriously, I could never do what you guys did here. Hats off to both of you. Keep up the great work. 👍👍

Denny, how I love maps!! We are fortunate in PA to have a few state forest areas that are still quite remote. I love exploring these areas…. and if wild trout are present, I’m one happy guy!! Tight lines and happy exploring!! Long Live the Native Brookies. 👊

It's so amazing how 1 stream the fish are orange go up the mountain down the other side to another stream and they are red@@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan 6 месяцев назад
Some of these remote streams are exclusively native brook trout. Wild browns have yet to find these sweet waters. I’m not sure if that’s a factor? If brook trout have free rein of a stream do they benefit genetically? When brookies get isolated to the very headwaters, how does that affect the gene pool? I’m not sure. I do love the colors and spot patterns of these fish and all trout for that matter. I can’t wait to discover another wild trout stream and admire the beauty of its inhabitants!! All the best Denny 👊

Wow! Another great video! That was a serious hike to get to fish..loveit!!! Does the All Trails app track your path so you can follow it out of the mountain? Can wait to see the next adventure!
@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan 6 месяцев назад
lol, glad you enjoyed it Rick!! Thank you!! It was a very nice adventure. I use the All Trails Pro version of the app. It allows you to download the area map of where you are going to hike/fish and then use your phones built in gps to track you and follow the trail. You don’t need cell service. It is outstanding. I highly recommend it. Only drawback is your phone can’t run out of battery. I have taken a battery backup on long solo adventures. Long Live the Native Brookies!! 👊

Nice adventure. Looks like a snakey place, that's for sure. Honey mushrooms can be tricky.. not everyones system can tolerate them.
@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan 6 месяцев назад
Thanks critter!! Fortunately we didn’t run into any snakes. The worst would be to surprise a snake and walk right into it. They will strike out of fear. Otherwise they are going to take off and leave you alone. I have seen several while out exploring but luckily none within striking distance…. Or they rattle to let you know they are there and not to approach any closer. Definitely have to be careful…. And also with mushrooms. I have not had any reaction to honey mushrooms but everyone is different. Just as in taking medication, some people have allergies. I do love wild oyster, trumpet and especially morel mushrooms. Yum!!

Wanted to ask about the memberships. The 5.99 a month membership talks about exclusive videos. Are those fly tying videos? Thanks!
@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan 5 месяцев назад
Hey Rick, hope all is well!! Membership videos aren’t exclusively fly tying but that’s something to think about. Right now, on the stream unreleased videos is the concept. Fly tying, fly fishing equipment and instruction will also be included. Have you been out fishing this winter?

@@WildTroutMan All is well here, thanks! I was out at the PGC game lands at Rock heading towards Pine Grove. Caught a few nice brown trout on a bead head pheasant tail. Released them to catch another day! Quick question? So, are your memberships you and running to join yet? Can't wait to see your next video!!! Hope you have a great day and enjoy the sun shine!

Nice adventure. Just curious, how can you tell if they're a male or female?
@WildTroutMan
@WildTroutMan 6 месяцев назад
In early fall as spawning season approaches, the males will develop a bright orange belly and the females will have substantially less color. Not terribly scientific but a very good indicator as to the sex of a native brookie…. Like a male and female cardinal though their color difference is definitive year round.

Yeah Beer Nut, just some orange blazes going down the side of a mountain. Definitely needs lots of maintenance. I knew we wouldn’t hit any impassable cliffs because there was a trail so that was the one reassurance. Thanks for watching. 👊

You sure are hard on the fish! Put back in the water, I counted 12 to 15 seconds and you did it over and over again to the same poor trout! Keep it in the net until you get the camera ready raise it up just till it breaks the surface and snap a pic.

Yeah, not touching them at all would be best but I can’t resist admiring their beauty. We all appreciate your concern. Always room for improvement. Long Live the Native Brookies. 👊
