Using a 5 point scale for 14 Bondian elements (villain, action, look etc) I added them up and the resulting rank seemed reasonable to me: 1) The Spy Who Loved Me 62 2) Goldeneye 59 3) Goldfinger 59 4) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service 58 5) Tomorrow Never Dies 58 6) Moonraker 57 7) You Only Live Twice 56 8) Casino Royale 54 9) From Russia with Love 52 10) Skyfall 48 11) The World is Not Enough 48 12) Octopussy 46 13) Live and Let Die 45 14) A View to a Kill 45 15) License to Kill 44 16) The Man with the Golden Gun 42 17) Die Another Day 42 18) The Living Daylights 42 19) For Your Eyes Only 41 20) Thunderball 41 21) No Time to Die 40 22) Quantum of Solace 40 23) Dr. No 38 24) Diamonds Are Forever 33 25) Spectre 33 26) Never Say Never Again 31

It's always frustrated me. The editing is a mess, it keeps cutting back to the random crowdgoers in the horse race for no reason well after they've left, they're wearing similar clothes to it's hard to tell who's who...There are moments and score is great (BRING ARNOLD BACK!) but it just feels sloppily made to me.

A well-done & fun discussion! I feel like the fanbase in general has been sleeping on The World Is Not Enough. I'd rate it #13 out of 25. It's an easy one to underestimate, but is also one of the darkest & most grim Bond movies. Plus, it lays the groundwork for all the best aspects of Craig's era (same writers).

I'm back: 21: this one is low on my scale too. It flips back and forth year to year for me. Denise Richards I agree is the down side of this film. I like the storyline and the mission briefing scenes. Opening scene is good. The villain and henchmen I thought were weak. It's the only Brosnan I didn't see in theaters. And I agree this is Brosnan's worst acting performance. I like the twist with Elektra. 20: you guys are killing me haha. DAF is my 5th favorite. I love the Vegas local. It's a fun film. My favorite scene is the climbing outside the casino. The ambiance in that scene is great. Love the score. I love it's opening as a connection to YOLT. The bad guys are great: Wint Kidd Blofeld...You can see how psychotic they are right up there with Javier Bardem. The only thing I dislike is the end. The whole oil platform sucks. Too anticlimactic. 19: I didn't think this movie was amazing but I thought it's way better than 19/20. You guys will probably hate me but I like QOS slightly better than SPECTRE. What I like most about this film is a return to the old atmosphere of the Connery/Lazenby films. I don't know where their going with this film. I hope they aren't going to redo the oldies like DN/FRWL/GF etc. I wish they connected with Quantum in an earlier film. Loved Christopher waltz, thought they brought out the psychotic Blofeld well. I don't mind his relationship to Bond. Liked the Goldfinger car and other old connectors. Is the black man at the S.P.E.C.T.R.E table Kananga? The woman Irma Bunt or Rosa Klebb? In the closing credits one of the baddies at the table is "Francisco" :O I really dislike the handgun taking out the helicopter :p
@turinhurintuorhuor
@turinhurintuorhuor 7 лет назад
Love all of them. My response to your rankings: 25: Love the opera scene also! Didn't like the airplane scene and ending hotel scene. I had QOS very low like you guys until I started watching it back to back with Casino as 1 film. Try it. That's the only way I watch them now. 24: Worst bond film. Horrible dialogue. Everything's a quip. Lee Tomahori directed xxx 2 same style. Crappy film. Love the Cuban and Hong Kong scenes. 23: Walken saves this film. Roger looks great for his age but you could tell he was done with it. He does not look too old. No more than Connery in DAD and NSNA. I think people say this because it's popular too just like the whistle in TMWTGG jump scene. It doesn't ruin either. I don't even notice it. Walken though is awesome. The cave scene is lame. Favorite opening titles scene. 22: This film is underrated. Goodnight is my favorite Bond girl. The reason this film is better than 22 is because Bond is actually on a direct mission. The assassin theme is great. It's a dark Roger Moore. I like the tough Moore edge. Lee and Herve are great. The car jump is pretty cool despite the whistle. Not ruined come on you just say that because it feels good too. Again love the dark side of Moore in this. These first two and TMWTGG are the most debated Bond films. I'll be back...
@RetroCarsForever

As for that slide whistle...Some people are down with it, others (like me) it basically ruins a really exciting stunt. Same with Beach Boys music in AVTAK. To each their own!
@turinhurintuorhuor
@turinhurintuorhuor 7 лет назад
Brad Hansen yeah I get what you mean it would've been better without it but I think it's too much to say it ruins it. It's not that I don't think it's better without it because it is but what I mean is it doesn't bother me and that might be because I saw it as a kid and I didn't notice it then (same with beach boys) and just thought the stunts were cool. As I got older and people pointed out the goofyness I shrugged it off because of my already established impressions of them. In fact the whole campyness, especially Moore, became campy later on especially after the Austin powers trilogy, which created campyness in our culture towards Bond (CR 1967 also). In fact we may even thank Austin for forcing Mike and Barb to change Bond out of that. In conjunction with this is just the change in cultural media. In 15 years Craig's films may seem campy, Brosnan's do but this isn't because they were meant too but rather because we're beginning to see that they're dated. Just my view on the subject of camp :) thanks for talkin'
@RetroCarsForever

Totally get what you're saying! There are some oddities with films or TV or comics that we grew up with, that a fresh audience would be weirded out by, but if you grew up with it, it's just a part of that thing you love.

HALLE: ( says some weird name says she is a space agent ) ROSAMOND: space? I bet James explained to you his big BANG theory? HALLE: I think I got the THRUST of it. The ice palace is crap enough said 4/10 23: It was OK I did like it but it was a bit boring It was very weird the Eiffel Tower scene was Awkward it's not so bad so I can give it no more than 7/10 22: A very underrated one I really like it and a great structure it is A good one I am going to give this a good score I LOVE KNICK-KNACK 8/10 21: This is actually a pretty good bond film Good action, Good acting, ( From Sophie Marceau ) And Christmas jones isn't that bad I like her she's good Definitely not Brosnan's best his second to bottom But I like it definitely worth a watch for Sophie Marceau And the villain is great love the final scene 8/10 20: Wahoo, I am a big fan of this I have a good story here goes When I was 8 years old I had the James Bond collection ( I still do have the collection ) and I had seen them all up to on her majesty's secret service and we saw that. Next was one that sounded good. I decided to look at the disc when I was about to watch it. I saw the trailer and everything and I opened the page with the disc and I saw Diamonds Are Forever 12. It was 12. But we convinced my dad so yeah! 9/10 19: This is great! Very convoluted, but entertaining! 9/10

Ok Brad and company. I am going to run this by you guys because I think it's a legit issue. That being the psychology of the fans. Ok like most of you I started watching Bond early. I saw my 1st Bond film Dr No around 4-5 years old on tv. Loved it and over the years I saw all of them on tv growing up except the Daltons. I didn't see the Daltons until my 20s. I saw the Brosnans and Craig's as they came out. With that being said, there's a lot of criticism of the older Bonds as being cheesy especially Moore. And this is my point: Bond has never been bonehead cheesy. Sure tongue in cheek humor but not campy. So where did the camp come from? Here's my psychological theory: When we were growing up Connery Lazenby and Moore were proverbially the shit. Men of men. Bad ass. For you guys Dalton was too. But for me Daltons villains were lame but I think that's because I saw those when I was older 20 years after they came out and I wish I saw them younger when they came out. I would like them more but as I've watched them over the years they've grown on me. We saw the Brosnans when we were older and Craig's so they have the same connotation as the old ones when we were young. But as we got older the older films started seeming campy. Why? 2 reasons: 1) each film is made for it's era and in its era wasnt cheese. Also I think as we get older we want Moore reality (pun intended). 2) and this is the big one: Austin Powers. Bond was never campy until Austin. Only after did everyone see the old Bonds and even Brosnan as goofy. (Take note: Austin is a really well done 1967 Casino Royale. Make that connection with YOLT issues) This is why they transformed Bond with Craig. They needed to give Bond the hard edge again that was erased by Mike Meyers. In fact Craig said Austin Powers ruined Bond. Some of you mentioned that you didn't rate these films based on your childhood nostalgia but that is exactly what you should include because thats actually part of the objectivity of the effect of the era they came out in, which had effect on you. Ok. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 4 года назад
Loving the series or certain films because of nostalgia is 100 percent a worthy reason to love them. However, for our particular rankings, we were trying to do something a little more "scientific," ranking the series as best we could REMOVED from that, so that someone new to the series might look at this list and take some value from it.

Practical Car Guy I have to be honest, I have grown to dislike Spectre more and more. It’s okay I guess. Too long, to dramatic, boring ass blofeld. However I do not hate it as much as others for sure. It’s at #17 or 18 for me

Practical Car Guy right. It’s a mixed bag. It is shot well, Daniel Craig is still one of the greatest. As a whole, it was a disappointment. Nothing really stuck with me as much as the stuff in the classics.

I wonder how you (mathematically) you arrived at the ratings. How for instance was DAD at 24 when none of you had rated it that low individually. I don't doubt it's correct I just wonder.🤔 I love the ranking though and the discussion. I'm a Bond geek and love hearing about how other people perveive the movies we all know and love 🙄

One part of TWINE that always bugged me but nobody ever talks about: Bond killing Davidov. It feels very off. For one thing we know hardly anything about the guy. Bond knows hardly anything about the guy or what he’s up to. I don’t feel like he deserved to die and Bond had no reason to kill him in that moment
@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 5 лет назад
I've never thought about that before, but you have a good point. I think I was always distracted why he wouldn't use his silencer for that kill (which he has just a few scenes later).

Booo for putting LTK so low! (But obviously some of us put it there)
@David-281
@David-281 4 года назад
Brad Hansen I was absolutely never a fan of LTK.. I‘m really not a fan of the dark tone cause in some places, this movie is really going far. After my first watch LTK sent me straight into a couple of nightmares.. Another thing is that half-way through I get quite bored and i loose interest.. Or Talisa Soto is not the best actress. To me it just feels like a guiness world record attempt for putting the most gory scenes in one movie.. Its like the filmmakers wanna disgust the audience.. And if the dark scenes are censored on the TV versions and most people look away on the first watch, whats the point of making them in the first place? But dont worry I do have stuff to praise. The soundtrack is great, the title song is great, the plot is well-written and we have a great villain! Thats about it.

Jesus! The World Is Not Enough number 25 - number23 by someone ?(someone insane apparently) - it’s got the best intro at the Bank and the boat chase - worse Bond film in a franchise of some truly bad films - WTF!!! You all ranking of this single film ruined your overall rankings cause honestly it makes most of you look like you have no idea what is and isn’t a bad film - this one films ranking is BEYOND ridiculous The fact that 3 of you literally rank it last and 2 have it near the top 10 tells me something is way off here with this films overall final ranking on thus film - it ruin your rankings and I can’t take it seriously

The nice thing about having five people ranking each movie is you get a nice mix of opinions, so any “wayward” opinions get their sharp edges softened. I think the people who ranked it lower clearly stated their reasons for doing so, even if it didn’t agree with them! In Part 3 (out soon) we will all have a chance to reevaluate our old rankings. So I’m hoping TWINE does a bit better.

My top 2 Bond movies will forever be 1# Goldfinger and 2# OHMSS with the occasional flip flop. I have a few honorable mentions like License to Kill and Thunderball/ Never Say Never Again but all three movies are a country mile behind Goldfinger and OHMSS. I would never try to take on the undertaking of ranking all 25 Bond movies. I think my head would explode.
