The beauty of it is that these bosses know they're not actually in competition with each other. Their clients just buy it all in the high price point. Mclaren and Ferrari, for example, could never be this open... So their honesty and appreciation is genuine and great to see.
He is so much less self involved. Mate is a great example how we move forward together peacefully, John and Christian....a little more about who can appear the coolest.
Yeah and while these 3 (and Murray/Pagani who couldnt make it but had accepted invites) are technically competitors, they are not really. When a customer choose GM/Ford/Toyota, they pick one of them, When customers pick a Bug/Pag/Kegg/H5/GMA car, they can afford "one of each". Remember Veyron owners back before Chiron was esitmated to own 84 cars on AVERAGE.
I just think its weird how they put a dude running a Texas tuneshop up into the company of some of the greatest car manufacturers in the world. John is not a car designer, he does not make cars, he is not an engineer, he is... He just does not belong in this company.
I said this in the part 1 video, but seeing these 3 CEOs sit down and just geek out over cars is so awesome. There’s a clear level of respect, sportsmanship, kindness, and tact on display here and it’s lovely to see. They may be natural competitors just due to the industry they’re in, but this video and the last one really highlights how they don’t necessarily see each other that way? It’s wholesome as hell lol.
Good list. To me the 80/90ies were the Golden era though. Porsche 959 Ferrari F40 Lamborghini Diablo Bugatti EB110 Jaguar XJ220 and then McLaren F1 to put everybody in their place. I know this is not a complete list. Cars like the homologated Mercedes and Porsche Le Mans cars are more race cars than supercars imo. Ferrari F50 didn't beat the McLaren F1. Vectors had American 3 speed auto-box lol. And there's several crazy cars that were too few in numbers to be considered imo.
Best thing about kristian that he is the legend at being professional. Matte is the guy that is so humble even after being a ceo of two biggest companies he is able to go out and see what’s out of his thing. John henessey is like i got the feeling of being up there but these two guys are way too advanced and engineered.
I’m a Texan, born and raised just down the road from Hennessey HQ, and have an engineering background. No disrespect to John and his team, but Christian and Mate (and their respective companies) are in another league imo.
Yup, he's an old guy with old ways. We won't be seeing Hennessey with newer tech soon. But i still admire him for pushing the limits of pure eternal combustion engine. He's like a tuner dream, to build not just the most powerful engine but as a package build it into your own car.
Hats off to the Top Gear team, love the boss episodes. Especially loved seeing a few of the most influential automotive giants have fun, sharing the experience of each others cars and giggle like kids. True automotive legends
What an incredible 2 parter, thanks everyone for putting it together and getting those 3 men in the room to chat. We def need another with the missing bosses next time please.
15:10 Gemera... Yes plz. Thank you! I loooooooove what Christian has done... I only dream of being able to get one
someone builds a race track far from homes, people decide to build houses close to that track and then start complaining about the noise. how does that make sense
Watching these guys speak is highly inspiring. what a cool bunch of guys. Each of them is amazing in their own right. Hopefully the next one like this has Gordon Murray and Horacio Pagani. Amazing video #TopGear..
Although the F5 is an amazing homebuilt supercar, it still uses an LS ( GM ) V8.... I, personally categorize Hennessey as a " tuner " vs a real carmaker... the other two own an operate, ground up, company built vehicles...
Electric is great in some ways- But how many laps can it do at full tilt on the Nurburgring? How hot do the batteries and brakes get after a few laps? How much does the battery cost to replace? These questions may sound skeptical on the surface, but they are valid nonetheless, and deserve an answer. Other than those issues, my take is that debating which is better, ICE or EV or Hybrid, is forcing an unnecessary choice, like saying you have to choose between chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Why limit the choices to just one flavor? Maybe they can co-exist, along with their "delicious" differences.
You are missing the point completely. Even tough there are things about making an electric car that are prohibitive [battery weight, range], people like Matte are going for it in spite of it. These are exciting times. Just think back to cordless tools of 2005 and look at what they are doing today. There are literally hundreds of companies working on the next leaps in energy density/safe rapid discharge/ total battery recycling. In our lifetimes, batteries will surpass internal combustion in every single way but nostalgia.
totally not the type of conversation you'd expect car bosses to be having when there's competition, it's usually butting heads, opinions, etc. but this is extremely cordial. imagine if all 3 collaborated on a car design...
mate and vin diesel are both making history... peaple say that the eletric car lack the sensations and the feelings that explosions behind your baco gives you, but we are just looking at it wrong! a eletric car doesn't substitute a combustion one, it is a completely different thing... and looking at it as not an alternative, but a complementation, it gives you different sansations that you can't have in a normal car. and we don't need to try saving the combustion cars, it will never end, a sport car, hyper car etc... is produced way less than a daily driven car, also it is barely used, soo the eletric in a sport car is actually way worse for the environment, a eletric car pollute when it is manufactured, a combustion when it is driven, so a car that barely get driven like a hyper car is more environment friendly with combustion engines... but it doesn't matter as well because it is limited short production, so the actual impact of it is negligible... what really is bad for the environment is war not sports!
I mean look at all the current manufacturers bringing back old models of car to feed off nostalgia: Ford Capri, Honda Integra, Mitsubishi Eclipse (now a shitty crossover SUV), the new Toyota MR2, 911 Dakar as mentioned. The car market is not the same any more as they start to become appliances more than an extension to the family to enjoy.
It would be nice but none of their cars would be eligible. The rules are very strict on dimensions and shape hence why all the lemans hypercars look the same. I think we all got excited by the hypercar class of lemans (hoping it would be manufactures road hypercars converted for track use) but unfortunately it's the same LMP1 class just rebadged. Great idea tho 👍 It would be awesome to see one day a true hypercar class without all of the tight FIA requirements 😎
@@UKBUILT "it's the same LMP1 class just rebadged" No it really isn't. There are rules, but they are nowhere near as strict as those of LMP1. They were designed for hypercar manufacturers to join. There's a video that Formula Jonah uploaded a video about LMH and LMDh cars and also the "What is a Hypercar" video uploaded by the FIA World Endurance Championship. I haven't read the actual rules, but it looks like they're trying to involve more people.
@@UKBUILT You are right that none of their current cars would be eligible, they all have way too much power. It would probably be easiest for Pagani to build a race car for the WEC. Could you imagine a Utopia LM?
Let me help you with the restomod topic...build us an affordable, super light weight, super simple, tech free car with emotion. Every high end car manufacturer is going around chasing power and performance numbers, they're totally inaccessible day to day. We need more Miata's and Lotus Elise/Exige and such, but with actually interesting powertrains. The GR86 (or whatever it's called today) would have been fun but it's just a boring drivetrain in it, imagine what it would be like if they could put a Porsche flat 6 in it.
People don't buy those my man, you said every word I was yelling inside. People can buy something affordable in 80k$ range from Porsche or Lotus designed with help of GMA Design.
@@AnmolSingh-2911 if Porsche built a $50k starting price sports car again, like the Cayman used to be, I would be all over it, but the Cayman/Boxster have moved up to where the 911's used to be, they no longer have the every man's sports car. And I have a Macan GTS in my garage...so it's not as though I'm a stranger to Porsche.
50:29 talking about hypercars prototypes in endurance racing not representing road cars well that's going to change. Aston martin is bringing in the Valkyrie
Bro didn't talk about the single seater car that does Nordschleife in 4:30mn. Bro just said "first of all".
The new era " hyper 3 infinity ♾️ " three world class 👏🏾 mega performance oriented manufacturers that have revolutionized the potential of automotive industry.........thru infinity and beyond the "infinite 3"
These men are all legends. These cars are all legends. It's a shame that Gordon & Horacio couldn't make it. But Given all the ca$h in the world, It would be Gordon's T50. Not the outright top speed, but two T50s would be lighter than ONE Rimac. T50 is nearly half a ton lower than the Koenigsegg & Hennessey. Half a ton is a lot. Yet it's quiet & refined at regular speeds & has one more seat than any of these in the video. As a road car, I'd rather have AIDS than an AMG One or a Valkyrie with their straight cut gears & the need for ear defenders even to drive at road speeds. These may be road legal, but they are NOT road cars.
Could they not take these cars to a track like Talladega superspeedway? It's a 2.6+ mile oval that isn't owned by another car brand. I don't see Nascar saying no
