It is finally here - my Full Guide on how to beat Cohozuna most of your attempts and get better at Xtra Wave overall with your fellow co-workers! We've reached 30,000 Subscribers everyone, thank you so very much - it means a lot to me that my Splatoon content is appreciated and I'll keep working as hard as I can in the future
TYSM! Now I have your strategies to use when he next turns up. It's something that I am excited for because it brings extra challenge and he has such a cool entrance but I and the rest of my team end up getting wiped in the extra round.😅😅😅😅 Do you know why the dynamo roller is so damn slow? Just yesterday I was stuck with that slow thing DURING an xtra wave against King Salmonid...no need to wonder how that went! ...Still a little salty about it but now thanks to you I feel better and now I know what to do!
Another good reminder, launching golden eggs during Xtrawave costs NO ink, unlike just throwing them during normal waves. If you get surrounded by Lessers but have a golden egg, you can use it as a last-ditch effort to try and get some ink back.
Finally an actual guide to cohozuna that is more than just use golden eggs. This is an incredibly good guide and hopefully will be the first thing people find when they look up “how to beat cohozuna.”
Using eggs on normal bosses is such a crucial tip that I rarely see happen in freelance. Also the amount of missed egg throws I see sometimes is staggering. I think a lot of people assume they can hit shots from across the map & are too caught up in the chaos to notice they’re whiffing.
It's understandable, on my first fight with him I genuinely thought you just launched in his general direction and it would always hit, didn't know there was skill involved with attacking
Having one person to draw cohozuna's aggro is so important, most people are just too busy getting golden eggs and died because cohozuna interrupted them so hard
I actually noticed that there is a pattern to Cohozuna's jump attacks. He will attack every 13 seconds after landing from a previous jump attack, or the start of the Xtra Wave. He takes 3 seconds to perform the jump attack each time. Thus, I figured out that he will ALWAYS use his jump attack five times in the Xtra Wave. The times at which he uses the attack are as follows: 87, 71, 55, 39, and 23 seconds left. I haven't figured out any time frame or pattern for his aggro shift or his lunge attack yet, but at least you can predict when he will jump into the air. Hopefully this is helpful for some SR players struggling with this King Salmonid.
Don't you hate when King Salmonid can jump higher and faster than Crab Tank that lost like 56% of its time? Also Wave Breaker sucks for Xtrawave but anyway thx
Tip 1: Don't use the special right away! Use it generally when you don't have ink (if possible), specials refill your tank immediately. I've seen too many players use them at the start. Tip 2: By experience, specials are better used to take down other bosses (Crab being the exception 'cause versatile and the sonar for handling lessers or emergency revivals) What I understood of the Xtra Wave is that you need to be smart with your ink. Golden eggs can be viewed just as a refund of your spent resources, and you can miss very bad with them. The downtimes are the best moments to hunt bosses and keep momentum: - When cohazuna jumps, take down a boss, saving the third egg for later (this downtime can be used also for taking care of lessers) - When you deplete your ink, use the saved egg to take down a boss; your tank is refilling during this time Basically the idea is to have always something useful to do, these should help on crowd control.
If I can add one more tip : don't forget to communicate, especially with randoms. If Cohozuna is far away from a bunch of golden eggs all gathered in one place, try getting your team together to aggro him to this place.
@@Beeean I know that I tend to have difficulty recognizing where a notification is coming from and so tend to ignore it to avoid getting too distracted looking where to go and getting killed in the process... maybe I'm just letting myself get too distracted with the swarm of frying pan-wielding death in my face, but I think the indicator for where someone is calling for assistance needs to be more apparent.
i think it’s also worth mentioning that using the Egg Cannon does not use any ink. unlike Egg Throwing, using the Egg Cannon doesn’t use any of your ink gauge, so even if you’re running low on ink, you can still fire an egg for an attack if you really need it for a quick escape
I honestly hope the whole playerbase for Splatoon 3 finds your videos. I've found them so helpful and I'd be great to see you spearhead in a "New Wave" of educated, well informed inklings and octolings!
A tip with tri stringer about it’s damage; you don’t need to full charge to get full dps, you just need to charge till the first ring and make sure every reticle is on your target. This is also present in pvp but a lot harder.
Stringers in salmon run are a bit different as it does actually require a full charge for full damage, but the first ring is around 66%-75% max damage anyways so it's still more efficient to use.
I love that you talk about the role of kiting the boss! I've found waves WAAAY easier when someone is kiting the boss because we aren't constantly worried about randomly getting jumped on by the boss while focusing on mini-bosses!
@@tacosunbirth I mean like cod zombies going in circles around the boss, like a kite on a string, pulling them away from your teammates and distracting him while dpsing
@@tacosunbirth Other group strategy games, like World of Warcraft, often include a strategy of "kiting", or having an enemy (often either the main target or one that is potentially lethal if it deals indiscriminate damage) chase one player to make it easier for the rest of the group to focus on their roles. It also makes the target being led around much more predictable so the team can focus on it with increased accuracy when they are able to do so.
I really appreciate getting some estimates on Golden Egg damage. It REALLY helps me gauge just how effective my main weapon is. I hope eventually, we can get exact numbers on just how much HP King Salmonids have and stuff like that. You could do the math on how many eggs/ hits it takes, and that could help a lot in planning strategies.
The current weapon rotation features the Dynamo Roller. PLEASE USE IT ONLY for covering ground and one-shooting salmonids. You are basically the carry for your whole team.
Dynamo roller is AMAZING at clearing waves. Just slam your roller down and let the salmonids come to you, you only need to move slightly forward to one shot every salmonid and your also recovering ink while standing still, allowing your team to focus boss salmonids, very good way of using it also.
@@Soandnb if it works like it does in Goldie seeking, then yes it could. However unlike goldie seeking, doing this against cohozuna will probably just get you splatted. the dynamo is much better used to help your teammates
This is so helpful. I’ve only beaten Cohozuna once and I think it was the first time I ever encountered one. It’s so important to make sure that at least one person is always firing at cohozuna. If everyone focuses on the bosses, you won’t get anywhere.
I've had the opposite problem of the scenario you described in the movement section. My team couldn't get to a pile of ten or so eggs because Cohozuna was sitting on them and just refused to get away from them.
I also made that mistake in my first Xtrawaves because i didn't noticed that the Cohozuna can chase one player at a time, I thought it just attacked at random and couldn't be baited xD once I figured it out, it was easier to DPS it
Really glad for this guide, because Cohozuna is freaking hard. Like, one or two rotations ago I managed to have the good fortune to get matched up with the best team ever. We absolutely destroyed Profressional rank multiple games in a row. We even managed to beat Wave 1 glowflies with a whopping 29 golden eggs collected. STILL not enough to beat Cohozuna.
Yes, just yesterday I had a run where I had killed, maybe 6 boss salmonids solo at the same time, only to realize cohozuna is literally on the other side of the map meaning those 18 eggs were now useless
Thank you so much for this! I’ve encountered Cohozhuna nearly 15 times total, and have only beat him twice. I just recently bought my very first colored Slop suit, *at Eggsecutive VP*.
I think cohozuna uses the jump attack at consistent points during the match. I’m not certain, but every time I’ve fought him he always jumps first at the part of the music that sounds like 2 siren beeps
This is a phenomenal guide! Thank you! I truly hope this catches up with the rest of the Splatoon community. I'm sure it will genuinely bump up the chances of winning Xtra Waves
thank you for this guide! it feels like since the game came out so many people are saying to use the golden eggs that everyone started believing thats the ONLY way to take it out, when shooting at the cohozuna itself is still very important. i hope this video leaves an impact for the better also if i could add a tip, if you have crab tank you should use it at the start on the boss. its standard fire does crazy dps when its at full speed and can knock off a pretty good chunk of health
EGGS KILL FLYFISH I ONE SHOT?? this changes so much. its so hard to kill them when youre overrun and surrounded but the free throw with the golden eggs will make it quick and easy. based on the estimated damage output, i also believe that drizzlers and big shots should be targeted with golden eggs, since they are often a hassle to get rid off
Big Shots aren't as annoying in a Xtrawave that in normal waves since they tend to shoot at the center of the stage, where the basket is, if you are DPS'ing the Cohozuna away from the middle, the shot waves aren't a big problem
The one and only time I managed to beat the extra wave was when I had the heavy splatling and cohozuna was chasing me. It was mid tide so I had room to run away, while all of my teammates and bosses were on the other side of the map. I spent most of the wave shooting at the king salmonid and running away, and by the time I got splatted my teammates were able to finish off the boss. This game has too much luck involved.
I'd say it qualifies. Big nasty enemy, super powerful, annoying to fight, happens only occasionally, meant to be fought with a team. Sounds like a raid boss to me!
A guide that actually explains how to do King Cohozuna perfectly on how to farm, what weapons to use on the king and other bosses and how to bait the kings attacks or lock down his movement?! Damn where was this guide at!
Everything you said in this video, I just want to shout from the rooftops! Every salmon run player needs to know these things. Honestly all the "guides" out there telling you not to shoot Cohozuna make me so mad. Like, I've seen so many of them saying the exact same thing and it's really stupid. I know the egg launcher does more damage, but as you said in the vid, it's not consistent! You need consistent damage over the entire wave to have any hope of defeating him. Thanks to your videos I finally managed to get the first Cohozuna badge. Thank you for all your videos!
Thank you so much for this! This’ll help me escape Overachiever once and for all. (Could you make a guide on how to deal with incompetent teammates lol)
If you feel like your teammates are inconpetent, there’s not much you can do during the match, other than using This way to communicate when needed. Try not to get distracted by thinking about how incompetent your teammates are, instead try to stay focused on your own gameplay to do the best you can. Finally, after the game is over, make sure to press ‘Leave’, as ‘Again’ will match you with the same players you just played with (unless they leave). If you leave and re-queue manually, you’ll be matched with different, hopefully more competent players (unless there are no other players available, but this only tends to happen on EVP).
Also, if you select "Leave", don't start a new shift immediately, sometimes you get matched with the same team members you left, it's kinda rare this happens, but it has happened me twice. To prevent this, wait 30-60 seconds before searching for a new game, that way, if some players of that last shift kept going, they'll already be matched against other players
I hope this video pops off as this would make Cohozuna so easy in Eggsecutive Freelance since people will know what they're doing :D Great video overall.
this was the first thing that came up when i searched “how to beat cohozuna” and im really glad because its the only one that i didnt know how to beat. thank you!!!
Sweet, thanks for going more in-depth since last video! I'll remember to take account of the basis of weapon roles and Cohozuna leading, along with the previous tips from before.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GUIDE! :D I went from being unable to beat Cohozuna at all, to soloing one pretty much by myself thanks to having good positioning and shooting constantly at it with eggs, my specials and my weapons, we ended up handling a couple of them later on the rotation finally managed to get myself a new uniform and even got my hands on a couple of gold scales thank you, you're a true Profreshional!
Thank you so much for the tip. I had multiple difficulties defeating Cohozuna, especially with the boss salmonids (including the Flyfish) making things more of a pain in the tailpipe than it already is. Beating Cohozuna is like fighting Godzilla with a paint gun.
I've found one person attacking Cohozuna and leading them away is better so he's not all over the bosses. Just go in a circle. Especially during high tide and there's not much room. Usually who ever can keep attacking for long times is who I put in charge of leading them away. Doesn't lead to a win entirely but it helps lessen the absolute chaos it brings.
Damn this really helped. Was a ballpoint splatling the other day and just focused on shooting at Cohozuna. Combined with my teammates going for eggs, we melted its health bar pretty easily.
An important thing for everyone to remember regarding damage output, weapons in Salmon Run won't always match they're numbers in normal matches since they're tuned more towards different health values. In order to choose what role you should take for the Xtrawave you'll need to test your weapon in the Salmon Run testing range instead; I don't know if there's any way to test every weapon freely in private/shoal lobbies or not, or if you just have to wait for rotation, though regardless if it's online you should just test what's available at the moment.
The very first time I defeated Cohozuna (which wasn't that long ago) I kept shooting him with my Luna Blaster. It definitely helped. My team would have failed had I not done that.
I would love to see a vid showing where to hit bosses with Golden Eggs. I basically understand how it works (hit em in the normal weak spot), but seeing it done gives me so much clearer of a mental note.
Forgot to go over specials. I always see people do random (?) specials on cohozuna. Not sure if out of desperation or just want to do damage. Should we save to get rid of normal/boss enemies, save teammates when last one left, or use on cohozuna
In the most recent mystery weapon shift (the one with grizzco brella on Gone Fission) I had an e-liter and the only long range and damage dealer so I just wasted cohozuna from a distance. Led him around the basket while sniping steelheads and other huge or zoning bosses for co-workers. Was great. Even the .96 gal is insane damage on it
having one person focus the cohozuna also helps keeping him from jumping around the map! hes always gonna focus the one doing damage so others can easily target him :]
Getting through all three waves is still the big hurdle especially when most players do not understand their roles and don't understand how to handle situations like a Salmonid frenzy, especially when a player has a roller and can protect everyone with it.
If you’re nearby dropped eggs on the ground, chuck one at the king. If you can’t find any, save it for bosses or emergencies. Basically, keep an egg on you at all times.
I remember one time I nearly defend king salmon on my own. It was low tide and I had the splatana wiper. My teammates were holding back the hoard on the other side of the map so I took advantage of him following me by constantly dealing charged shots on him with it. I don’t remember any of them getting a golden egg in but I got him down to at most a fifth of his health. So I recommend splatana users to be the ones to lead cohozuna around since they can get really solid damage at the same time.
one of my biggest peeves for higher level salmon run is when there are enemies under the slammin lid but ppl take out the slammin lid before they let it trigger. Lid can splat any enemy in one hit but only does minor damage if it falls on them after being splatted. i.e. falling will stun a scrapper but slamming will kill it. Ive seen these things take out flyfish and bigshots, slammin lids are your friend keep them around until absolutely necessary to splat (quota needs to be met, there's already a couple on the map or the map is overwhelmed by the extra mobs) also whilst talking about mobs that can hurt each other, aside from the egg canon, things that can damage cohozuna are: steelhead death explosions, drizzler balloons, and slammin lids (ofc)
that bit on roles is so important and i think ppl on eggsecutive dont even realize it sometimes. its not just something that applies to xtra waves but also to the average salmon run wave; the amount of times we've lost due to me having some sort of weapon that can't easily take down fish sticks which overwhelm the party by turning the entire turf green innumerable. pls think abt ur weapon type and what it is ur job to cover at all times!!!!
Great video I didn't know about the 1 golden egg to drop a flyfish thought you needed two. I've have always wondered about specials in extra wave and if there better used to pump damage into the cohozuna or kill bosses? Some are kinda obvious like crab which is basically turning yourself into a hydra but stuff like whale and inkjet I never sure on.
it's also good to note that the grizzco brella will probably not be best for soloing coho because in splatoon 2, it only had 300 dps, which was worse than most normal weapons.
Yeah like in todays rotation I spent the majority of the time using Jr. against cohazuna cuz it had the fastest dps out of dynamo, dualie squelchers and splat charger. But I also spent some time reviving teammates as well cuz every one counts. But yeah ye gotta do whats best for the weapon you got and not just going in hay wire not doing your actual job.
5:50 Woah woah woah, wait, how did you do THAT? Edit: Nevermind, you explained it later in the video. Apparently, it’s possible to detroy both Flyfish launchers at the same time with a shot from the Egg Cannon or the Crab Tank. I feel like that’s very valuable information
if i had not seen your footage of the golden egg defeating the flyfish in one shot, i would not have believed it. i have tried many times to pull off that shot and it has failed; this is because i was aiming for the body not the top middle of baskets
It's no always applicable but when you can, make sure to pop the pimple guys right next to him, and drop the ufo lids on him. They do damage on cohozuna just like any other boss
