Adirondack chairs are really the pinnacle of "sittin on the deck relaxing" chair design, and adding a footrest like this one takes that already comfy recline to the next level. The fact that these are stowable are even better.

@MrCarnutbill67
@MrCarnutbill67 4 года назад
Carson O'Keeffe I can tell you that I live in central Ohio and finding Clear End Grain Western Red Cedar is not easy here. One of the only lumber yards that would order it for me wants $10.10 per lineal foot. That’s over $300 per chair just for the wood. Yikes, I still might make them if I can find a better price.
@JackmanWorks
@JackmanWorks 4 года назад
@@MrCarnutbill67 the materials (including wood, finish, and hardware) when using clear WRC around me is about $250. There are definitely cheaper alternatives of wood, STK cedar is still good (you just have to avoid any larger knots when you lay out the pieces), Cypress is great, White oak, and even pine has longevity longer then most hardwoods. Just make sure you seal up the bottom of the feet really good because that's what's most susceptible to rot.
@yatesmachine1234
@yatesmachine1234 3 года назад
@@JackmanWorks Thanks, I was digging through the comments hoping for alternative material suggestions and I lucked out getting it from the man himself! I'll be buying the physical template as I'll be making at least 6, if not 8-10 of these to go around our new fire pit and decks.

Can I ask you a question- something I’m unclear about, cause I’m in the process of building these now: if I’m doing chairs with footrests, are all of the carriage bolts 2 inch rather than 2.5? Looks like all the 2.5” get replaced by countersunk 2”. Thanks.

Ok, I just have to say I've been watching a lot of Adirondack chair videos lately and at first I thought your stern look was going to make me not want to watch your video, haha and then I saw the foot rest and well I had to keep watching...you had me "cracking up", your edits and double acting (if you will) was so funny! Thanks for taking the time to just have fun with this video. I'm hoping do some woodworking projects on my own and not have to bug my husband for help too much, haha and I my goal is two Adirondacks chairs! Wow, hats a great idea with the footrest. However I must correct you on one small detail Paul. Those are Muskoka chairs, not Adirondack chairs. Ask any of your Canadian friends from Ontario. Whenever I build a Muskoka chair, I cut a hole 2-1/2" round into the arm right where it intersects with the front leg . I then proceed to notch the leg and its perpendicular brace to a total depth of about 3". That includes the hole in the arm rest. Cleaned up, protected from the elements, that sir is a built in drink holder. 🍺 That's the Canadian way. 🇨🇦 Keep making the awesome videos dude, much love and respect from The Great White North!!

@jacquelerock6938
@jacquelerock6938 5 лет назад
Lol, nothing. Maybe just patriotism of ones country. The Muskoka area is a popular summer destination for Ontario residents, mostly from Toronto and the surrounding region, as a place to own, or rent a summer cottage.

Why bother using red cedar (a rot-resistant wood) if you're going to coat the whole thing in a couple of layers of epoxy? The finishes are going to protect the chair even if you used the cheapest pine you could find and they are also going to make the wood look good.

Great build. I bought your plans and built one myself. Very expensive in the UK to use the same wood that you do, so I looked around for an alternative. I built mine out of radiata pine thermowood which retains the lightness and the thermowood treatment improves the durability. Win win with resistance to decay, no chemicals, light weight and low priced. Thanks again for your plans and help.

Was that an attempt at the death march on the table saw wood friction instrument there?

See, that's where they get ya! You don't need a table saw, but you need 100 giant jars of peanut butter

When building these with an alternative wood, do you need to adjust the plans at all if it’s not the same thickness?

How's this held up over the last 2 years, and if you redid it, what would you change?

Was just at Jamestown Distributors last week picking up some Halcyon for a couple countertops, wish I had the code then... But love that stuff so far. So, got a good source for rough sawn lumber from when you were in Rhode Island? :)

Ha! I was actually just out in the area last weekend and stopped by JD, so we probably just missed each other. My best source of cedar in the area was Downes & Reader in Stoughton.

@@JackmanWorks Cool, thanks. I will check them out they look to be only about 40 minutes from me. I grew up in Bristol. We live in Rumford/East Prov now, but it's RI, so everything is close... :)

Thought about disliking after the chair screeching 😂

Nice Job. If you put another set of folding legs on that footrest (on the other side) you could have another use, side table for the chair.

Matthew Heithoff not sure if you’re serious or trolling the jackmangate incident on Facebook... 🤔 😂
