I bought one of these when I couldn't get two different drains clear with a hand auger, where you'd feed it in, clip it down to force it further, unclip, pull some more wire out, clip again, and repeat endlessly. After a few hours of trying with one drain, and having previously given up on the other, I came to YT to find some advice and saw someone using this. I went to HD and bought it, brought it home and had the first drain clear in about 10 minutes. The other drain I did a few days later and it also only took about 10 minutes, and only a single feed while sitting on a shower chair in the tub. It is great that you can reverse it and it isn't a big deal to get it back down again. The best part is you can relax and do this as the wire feeds cleanly. No bending, no laying on your back, no contortions. The wire is heavier duty than the cheap hand ones and doesn't kink easily. Once there's a kink in the hand one you may as well toss it. It isn't a pro tool, but if you need a pro tool to clear a drain you'd better call a pro to do it, otherwise you may get the water running through, but into your basement instead of the sewer.

I have one of these. A good piece of advise is that when your snaking it forward, do it real slowly and don't crank up the RPM's on the drill otherwise you may hit an obstruction that may cause the auger to kink up on you and end up the auger getting stuck in the pipe. It's also best to flush the pipe every few feet to flush out some of the obstruction that has dislodged down the drain while your moving the auger forward. Once you've finally reached the augers full length down the pipe, you can now crank up the RPM's to the recomended speed of 500 rpms on it's way back to you auger. This gives you less chance of the auger kinking up on the way back because there is no longer any obstruction.

Good tips, 2 questiosn for you, how do you flush if your drain is fully clogged, also how do you know you're close to 500rpm, not sure how fast that is.

Great advice for any mechanical procedures. As an ASE Master Tech since 78, I would my wife, sons, neighbors and son in law that if you had to force any rotating mass, drill bit, sink auger auger coil that it going to break, snap off or damage the part or fitting and/or driver! Now what? Ever had an easy-out, drill bit or tap break while cutting threads? If the end of a drain auger breaks off with 15" - 15'of wire-wound coil in the wall, you can't weld a nut onto the end of it and unscrew it! That happened to me in the kitchen with a double sink, window over the top on an outside wall. Every 1 1-2" fitting was black ABS and a hard Tee to drain & vent, hard 90 to drain, hard degree elbow that turned to go 42' to main drain, with sweeping street fitting to the ABS drain about one foot into clean out (Pointing pointing to main drain, over water heater) the wrong way on the back wall. 14" adjustable pipe wrench would not turn as 1980 house. Tore out drywall and installed new correct fittings and added drain an told wife again for the 390th time not to rinse the wet mop in the sink at all. First shake out in trash can, then if needed, plug garbage disposal with standard good-fitting rubber plug, this will catch hair, stones, toy parts, the list goes on. Remove all junk by hand as finger nails help but tweeters work great. Pro-drain CO, charge extra on weekends even plus repairs. Best of luck and go with patience! Retired ASE master.

I've had one of these, that was given to me, but only used the hand crank. I didn't know the cover came off! Using the drill is going to be amazing! Thanks for the tutorial.

Just bought one today and wow what a difference with the auto feed and drill just works so good forward and reverse. One thing I must say the trigger is hard to pull and hold plus it’s heavy when attached together but works wonderfully

Everybody should own one of these. If you never need it,great. When you need it, it'll be when all the stores are closed and the sewer cleaner wants 300$ for a clean out.

Absoluley one the better autofeed drain cleaner tools. Works well with any drill ( Use the clutch speed dial to prevent exceeding the 500 rpms ). My bathroom sink has cogged several times over the years and so far Ridgid spin drain cleaner has been the best tool I've used Yet. (FYI, I was working in tight quarters and started using the snake with my drill without realizing It was resting on my wrist area and gave myself a skin burn.) Recommended.

You can manually push the cable into the pipe until you hit resistance at a bend, then use the drill to spin.

Hey, I'm looking for that exact drill from Rigid. I need one that has the screw mode so I can use my Rigid Flexshaft snake properly. If anyone knows the model number of that drill or another that has three modes please let me know!

No, it will work with any brand of drill. As long as it is relatively strong.

how do you wash the coil once it is back in it's container?
@flex5966
@flex5966 Год назад
Extend the cable and hose it down with the garden hose Sprayer nozzle or gun set to jet. As you return the cable back in the (DRUM) case, Dry it up. It won't absolutley get all the dirt but will minimize any built up. (To minimize gunk built up in the (DRUM) casing, when extracting the cable at slow speed or manually hold a rag on the cable and wipe off excess debris.)

Never buy cheap tools get something that will last your lifetime... it's always worth the extra... I have tools that my father had when I was a kid and tools that my grandfather had when my dad was a kid.... dad always said get the best you can afford and take care if it....I do .. best advice ever.... only buy cheap if you intend to beat it up... I even have high quality tools I bought and bent intentionally for one specific use.... I have wrenches that I bought and bent specifically to reach a nut in a hard place have 2 that are bent opposite directions so I could turn one ab little then get the other on turn a little and continue... this was for a bell housing on a transmission no other tool would reach... took everyone to remove that one bolt but was the only way other than cutting the floorpan and doing it from inside the car... I have open end wrenches I ground the head diam to gain clearances... I will go buy a new tool for these specialty jobs to modify rather than break up a matched st... the guy at the tool store gave good advice buy a tool and make it work then paint it special color and throw into special tools box

@@MillennialReview I can't speak for this drainage cleaning attempt but my my drain from the the kitchen (-Minus the wall) was 40 feet 1 1/5" long ABS with stupid molded ABS hangers that broke. With the ceiling finished, I had to reach both directions to install new plumbers tape and bocks of wood inside the chase using a torpedo level. That was me, all I can tell you is to check "Vivo" brand and never run backwards, only pull going forwards. You'll twist the line. Spring steel looses its temper when heated. Be careful.

I bought one of these and the very first time using it the stem that you put in the drill chuck broke off. It's held on with 3 crummy little spot welds and they broke right off. Ended up having to put the hand crank back on to pull the snake back out.
