Zach, I’m so frustrated. I bought your plan, downloaded it, then you tell me I have to have a software, 3D sketch up, to view the plans. I have to download that to view the plans, but you tell me it’s free. Okay, so then I try to download that, and it insists that I must buy a plan, ranging from $119 to $699! I just wanted to support your channel and buy the plans. Wasn’t wild about paying $4, but I’m certainly not going to pay over $100 to be able to read them. What gives? Are you just shilling for this software company?

@workshop_edits 2 года назад
Todd - I can understand your frustrations so let me just respond to a few things. EDIT - For the below responses - here is the link for reference for anyone interested: workshopedits.com/design-files/drill-charging-station-sketchup-design 1 - This file was free for six months when the video was first launched, and the benefit was to people who were my long term subscribers and those that found me in 2020. I have since, for the past 3 years, charged for it as it is my most popular design file. That is also in the description of the video. 2 - In the video I call it a Sketch Up design file, not plans - I never once mention they are plans. 3 - If you read any part of the purchase page for this design, I tell you in the first paragraph that they are designs for purchase, and then in the second paragraph that you'll need SketchUp to view the file, and purposely link to TWO ways to get the FREE browser format, or download the FREE desktop version, it just won't be the 2022 version which you do not need. Why didn't you read any of this or use these options as I very clearly suggest? 4 - When you go to buy the plans - you'll see the FIRST thing that says "WARNING - This is a DESIGN ONLY file; these are not comprehensive step by step plans. This is a SketchUp 3D model of my drill charging station build that you can purchase and use as you see fit for your future builds. Material cost for this build should be $50 for plywood, screws, and glue. There is an available written article and 12 minute free video as well to walk you through the assembly." I personally cannot help if you did not read any part of what you were purchasing. And no, I am not shilling for this software company; in fact, I am doing the opposite and providing access and information FREE software that most people are unaware of, and that has been enormously helpful to me as a creator to learn basic 3D modeling and build better projects. Request a refund if you want, but I cannot help those who don't help themselves.

@@workshop_edits absolutely, I'm currently rebuilding my benches,shelves, storage space ,slide out drawers and mobile outfeed table/ bench for my table saw and just finished my insert for my sliding mitre saw , 12" kinda caught me for the dust extraction hose but hey after a few mods and we're good to go. The better half just bought 400euros worth of wood so I have to have something to show for it,plus I think she's gonna dump a load of crap in my workshop.. Am a newbie now ,only started out about 12months ago so everyday is a learning day. Thanks for the really helpful videos, keep up the great work.

Great build and thanks for the free plans. SAFETY POLICE WARNING: You really need a new push stick. Make one that holds down the piece as you cut it. The one you used is just asking for a small piece to flip up.

Would a 1/4 piece of plywood work just as well?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
No, it wouldn’t work well at all. Needs to be at least 1/2” or thicker, with 3/4” preferred. The only thing that could work with 1/4” would probably be the backing but if you’re using 1/2” or more for everything else you might as well use it for overall rigidity.

if you haven't already, there is a sketchup design file - not plans - on my website, and a written article to go with it (not step by step, but enough to take inspiration, pull measurements, and adapt for your needs). Honestly, if you're at all handy, I recommend just designing your own from scratch to fit the space

I highly recommend standardizing on one brand of battery powered tool for battery interchangeability. I have about 16 of the Ryobi ONE+ batteries from the small 1.5 Ah to the big 9 Ah and use the Ryobi tools exclusively. There is no reason to have two different kinds of batteries to deal with.
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
I don’t want to commit to Ryobi long term. I have their tools now but will slowly over time replace with Ridgid as the Ryobi go out or commission. I have more than enough Ryobi batteries that I can power anything I need while I make the long term swap. Plus Ridgid has a lifetime warranty.
@evictioncarpentry2628
@evictioncarpentry2628 4 года назад
There's tons of reason for it lol. No single line of tools makes the best of everything. I guess if you like to settle, then you can stick to one. I have a huge assortment of Makita, Milwaukee and Dewalt. Makita makes the best 18V power tools in general and that's my main platform. However, Milwaukee makes the best 18V cordless nailers, so I have batts for those and some other M18 tools. Then Milwaukee also makes the best/versatile 12V line IMO, so I have a whack load of those tools and batts. Then dewalt makes the best cordless Orbital/Planer etc so I need batts for that. Doesn't bother me one bit. I need the best of any tool I use.
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
@@evictioncarpentry2628 100% - Investing in 1 type only means you're stuck on that line - Ryobi certainly is lower tier and there are much better options out there. I started out with Ryobi because it was affordable and it more than works great for me, but I want better quality and better long term tools as I continue too get more into the hobby

I love the basic design and build, but the big holes for the plugs being visible, and the janky extension cable on the side spoil the otherwise ultra clean look of the build. Functional? Absolutely, no argument there, but there has to be a way to conceal the extension lead and plugs...

I think you’d find it looks pretty well thought out in person. Sure maybe the chargers could hide the holes in v2, and the power strip might be concealed, but there is also a balance between practicality and ease of function versus trying to make it totally concealed

It’s a SketchUp Design file. Do you know how to use SketchUp? The entire cut list is laid out for you on a sheet of plywood against the model as well. You can use it to build one to exact dimensions or use it to modify for your own needs. Second sentence “This is a SketchUp 3D model of my drill charging station build that you can purchase and use as you see fit for your future builds.” Again. All you have to do is acknowledge that you made a mistake and I’ll refund you. Not my fault you didn’t read the product description of the purchase ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
