Jay Oliver I know, it seemed like such a no brained when I was curating the idea. There are a few things I would change and so I’ll be doing a version #2 this year with a few improvements.
I've watched a lot of flip top carts but yours is very unique. Most other designs don't include a fence let alone one that doubles as an out-feed for the planner, Awesome build and thanks for sharing!
Hey Mark, Thanks it’s her a super great addition to my shop. I’ll version two done this year. It’ll just have a few changes to it that I feel could be improved. Be looking out for that. Thanks again!
@@SaltCityWorkshop Ditto on positive comments about your video. Really appreciated them and they are just what I need. Do you have any additional info or drawings available for the outfeed support arms?
I love the fact that you and I have what looks to be the same Craftsman table saw, and that you are using your blade guard. Too many "professional " woodworkers don't feel the need to use them, but what they either don't realize or don't care about is that non professional woodworkers are going to emulate them and someone will get hurt due to their cavalier "not my problem" attitudes.
Out of all of the flip top assemblies I've seen, this is certainly the one I'll be building. Thank you very much for putting this out here for us. Your narration and commentary is on point as well.
Awesome build especially with that fold down fence. Adjustment I may do when building this is instead of using bolts for the fence, using magnets so it's quick and easy to pop the fence down or back to 90.
Practical and creative design!! There are flip tops and they are great space savers but yours is in another league of its own. The genius of combining mitre saw and planer in one using the same fence design just totally nailed it!
Great setup. I've seen alot of flip cart videos and I was actually planning on this exact same thing for my small shop. I like the way that you made the wings adjustable to account for the weight and use causing sag over time. Plus the miter saw fence. Definitely going to incorporate that into my design when I get time to try and build it. Only suggestion to change is maybe behind your support wings adding storage for extra blades and the tools to change, plus maybe an attached dust port hose or adding a power supply so you can switch between the two tools without having to unplug.
Anthony DeBonis these are all amazing suggestions. Thanks! I’ve since added some storage for the arm spacers and for the stops on the Kreg stops. But for sure am going to add a centralized plug in so I don’t have to connect and disconnect the power ever flip. Thanks again!
This is only a preference and not anything that you necessarily did wrong. I would have put the pocket screws toward the inside so they were not visible when the cabinet was completed.
As been said, I also have watched a lot of flip top carts but yours is very unique. Most other designs don't include a fence let alone one that doubles as an out-feed for the planner. Really appreciated your design and would like to incorporate into my cart. Do you have any additional info on the outfield support arms?
Great question! No twist in the body at all after adding the supports but there is a slight flex in the wing when you have heavy stock resting on the fence. this is mainly due to the wings being connected by piano hinge. I would use something stronger if I did it again, for right now I just use a support stand that goes under the in and out fences to help with the stress when I plane heavy stock. Thanks for the comment!
Great build. Im not that great at woodworking, but really want to build this just for my miter saw and to have a small work top. Do you offer plans with cut list and dimensions? Thanks
Hey Taylor love the combination plans - bought your plans and am in process of getting materials for the build. You indicate there is full description in the blog you linked in part one but could not find a similar link for part 2. Also your plans indicate “threaded inserts” but fir the 3/8 I think you meant t-nuts not inserts.
Awesome! Thanks for the support and feedback. You are correct 3/8” is for the t nut. I’ll get that corrected. And I don’t have a second blog for part 2, I really need to get on that. I’ll get one done here in the next couple weeks and let you know. Thanks again!
Great videos. I’m really thinking of doing this set up for my shop I’m trying to build. But I’m thinking of doing a miter / table saw combo. Think that would work also?
Rigo Sandoval thanks! I think that’s a great idea. The logistics of it I’m not sure on all of but I think your have the start of a great projects. Let me know if you figure out how to do it!
Thank you for the video. I have a small shop and I need dual purpose carts. I was just thinking of doing this exact thing so I could use both the planer and the miter saw. My only concern is when doing a project and wanting to use both tools. I am wondering if I should get them on different carts.
Yeah it is kind of a hassle to flip back and forth when you are using both tools for one projects, but when you have limited room it might be the only option.
Those triangle pieces are called gussets. With that much rotating mass a two/four frame boxed in with plywood would be wise. Tools are heavy enough then add the weight of the wood. Hey could you put a link to the wonkish music in your vids please?
Hey Taylor, that’s a smart idea! I have been thinking about doing a similar dual usage wings. I think i will built the wing top flat with t-track stop block instead since the mitersaw fence is efficient for me. And the top will have rollers built in to that for the planer outfeed. Great video! you deserve much more viewing!
