Old style Kane 455 and 458 have been absolutely bullet proof for me Buddy 🤘😎😂🙏

Hi Derek. Its my favourite channel, not just because of the work you put into making quality videos, but the thought given to what videos would be most useful to people. What a useful video this is to people new to the industry!

Glad you've had a go at Anton for abandoning their previous model. Always interesting videos.

By pure accident I retired pretty well exactly at the same time Anton dumped the Sprint v2. I liked my Sprint as it was versatile and a good all rounder, but I was not impressed with the way they obsoleted it. I liked the way Testos could cope with high CO readings which would make other analysers fall over. They have a clever dilution system to protect the sensor and the machine works out the true value. It's vital for setting up commercial boilers in particular, but always nice to know you are not risking the CO sensor when checking any boiler.

Calibration costs are significant and with the new kane you have to go to them, not an outside company, in saying that the outside company I use has doubled its prices this year but they do do it while you wait. From 80 quid to 177 but that did include a tightness testing hose. I saw how a delivery driver treated an analyser as he threw it in the van, it bounced off the steering wheel back out so he then volleyed it which was amazing foot work but when it's your analyser not so impressive

Fantastic review. I've got the testo 300, Takes a while to get your head around and needs a few accessory's to complete the kit, but must say its the best I've used and i prefer the water trap on the inside of the analyser, its so easy to empty

When I first started out I had a kane. To be fair it was an entry level one. I was young and dumb and broke it. I then started down the anton route. Something which I still regret. Ive had a sprint1 then a sprint2. Then an Evo2. That is so unreliable that I actually also now have an evo1 as well. Because I can’t rely on my anton actually working for the twelve months between services. Now I must say that I am a heavy user, I’m a service and repair guy who also does a lot of oil. The Antons just can’t take the punishment. I reckon on about seven months out of each unit before they go screwy. Then you start getting weird readings as either of the sensors gives up. So it gets chucked in the bag and out comes the spare unit. Ive had pump fails, sensor fails, probe attachments snap on both units, the stupid temp k type plugs with the hair thickness wires repeatedly snap on the probes. Then don’t get me started on their piss poor service. I few years back I was going on holiday for two weeks. Dropped it off before I went. Came back two weeks later. No unit in the shop. Shop chased it to be told they hadn’t started it yet. Ive had one unit returned from calibration that wouldn’t turn on straight out of the bag. So to conclude it’s my opinion that if you do a lot of oil boilers, or you do a lot of service/CP12. Buy something else. If you are a lighter user then you’ll probably be fine. For me. Ive already said these will be my last antons.

Just had 1 of our Kanes back from calibration and the green cable for temperature looks like it’s been glued in now and doesn’t seem to fall out of groove anymore, I mainly use a 258 and the startup is 3 times faster than our 458

Love the video honest reviews as usual. I have a Kane 458 it’s easy to use and pretty robust . But the magnet inside the case is rubbish many a time I’ve seen my analyser slide off the boiler case in slow motion 😩. Thanks for all the videos .

You can buy the TPI DC710, with temp clamps, their digital manometer and their gas sniffer for less than all the others. I'm not speaking with too much experience, but having the small/compact TPI digital manometer (fits in your pocket) and small TPI (or other) gas sniffer separate to the analyser seems like the way to go for me (obviously the Bluslyzer is small/compact itself). Thanks Derek Chris Taylor.

Got the Bluelyser and it’s the best FGA I’ve had (had Testo, TPi and Anton before). Specified it with rugged C0 cell option and haven’t broken it yet.

My first analyser was a Telegan sprint 2000, a revelation being able to perform so many functions. I killed the screen 8 years later by accidentally dropping from step ladder. Have had a Kane, but not impressed. Currently I have Anton evo with all the various probes, gas detection(1st. Class piece of kit) and printer. Have had it 7years, last years service was turned around in 3days, collected from home by UPS all for£99 + the vodka. Being able to use the analyser whilst charging is a must. Ultimately it boils down to money and personal preferences.

I have tried Anton,Testo 320,Bluelyzer and Rassi 300. Bluelyzer brilliant piece of kit but to complicated and did not like probe, Testo 320 excellent but printing out results took forever 20 -30 seconds compared to the rest, Anton since the new ones came out lock there analyser's when due calibration so basically a very expensive brick if you don't get it calibrated in time. Rassi 300 for me, small footprint, Quick start up, Colour touchscreen, TT, D/Temp etc, it has it all and takes like 5 seconds to print out, would like the probe connection like testo like Derek said as that would be awesome.

Hi Derek, on a different subject, do you think/know if the cheaper corrosion inhibitors are as effective as the more expensive ones?
@tomkatgastraining

In my experience the cheap inhibitors don’t show up in any of the tests I have done but check out my videos on the subject 👍🏻

I have used the testo 320b, did not like it. I found the hose had too much memory, and when you put it in the flue elbow, you would turn you back, and it would fall out. Also it has 1 port connection for everything, if you do FGA, cannot do anything else, if you want working pressure, you have to disconnect and attach another plug, if you want temp differences, detach the plug and fit another one.

Just one note to add, Good video, but what about the running costs? Calibration Cost, filters and probes, charges, Condensate/water traps. :) and warranty length of the unit, and ancillary parts.

caught my old Kane while it was charging and bust it ouch...Got the new 458s , no bag with it or case, very slow on Ratio to record , very slow on tightness test to read there seems to be a delay so makes accurate setting of the ECV hard. Feels very cheap compared to the old one and the aggro with the phone app is not worth it so I just use my old printer.

Some of those bags seem great but they only fit in the actual basic kit, if you add to it with extra bits there’s nowhere to put them.

Never by Anton , Anton force you into getting it Calibrated every year, it cuts itself out, even if you’ve only used it once or twice. This is a total unnecessary scam.
