This week features a few new updates on the Checkpoint cars. For starters, we mounted the Blitz 03 on Sandra's Skyline to embody the spirit of our new "Trash on Wheels" design. We also added another muffler onto the G35 to make it sound a little bit more domesticated.
Most notably, we made some changes to the underside of Dylan's Celica Supra to make it a bit easier to drive his super low car around without scraping on everything, including the installation of a newly-raised subframe from Rudeboy Custom and raised transmission cross-member by Keith.
Raising everything underneath caused the engine to sit up a bit higher than where it does from factory, so we asked Milo to help cut some notches in the skeleton of the hood. Once that was all done we asked our other friends with old, lowdown Toyotas to go for a cruise and take some photos. We had professional stunt driver Alex Turnbull test out how Dylan's Supra rides after the modifications and this is what he had to say:
"Thankfully Dylan is gang so he always gives me the keys to the Supra whenever he wants to film it. I’ve had the opportunity to drive the car in basically every step of the build so far and it’s been really inspiring seeing just how good it’s become to drive. Having Rudeboy raise the front subframe and installing the raised transmission crossmember that Keith fabricated feels like the final pieces of the puzzle in many ways after having the S13 coilovers with adaptors in the front, the engine risers and the diff risers. These changes significantly enhanced the overall drivability of the car. The newfound clearance between the front subframe and the ground has not only taken away concerns about scraping and banging off of imperfections and bumps in the road but has also contributed to a smoother and more responsive driving experience. Despite being extremely low the Supra drives similarly to most sports cars lowered modestly on coilovers, and when you consider its vintage plus how low it sits, that’s a huge accomplishment."
The drive with Sam, Adam, and Lance was a ton of fun. It was especially exciting getting to see Adam enjoy the Celica Supra that he had just bought. Is there anything better than hanging out with a group of friends in cool cars and catching the sunset? Honestly, it'd be hard to convince me otherwise. All in all, Dylan is super happy with how his car feels to drive now, and we had a delightful weekend with our friends.
Hopefully, you enjoyed this week's update, we can't wait for even more fun things that we have lined up in the upcoming months!
