Thanks for making the video I agree with all the points. I will add that for older folks... ... test ride and buy an ebike from a bike shop. Do not buy online unless they know how to trouble shoot common bicycle issues. If there is no store nearby then stick with popular brands like Rad or Aventon.
I appreciate that and good advice! Did you know that Rad has a mobile repair service ( alnk.to/clWThEg )? -Check out if they'll come to you...otherwise, they have service centers all over the US/Canada. So, if concerned about what to do if you have problems, check the brand's website to see if they offer service nearby :)
Liked. Subbed. Great info for 78y/o seniors like me. In addition to your advice, I got reflectorized vests. added small flashing lights front and rear. Solid U locks. Altho I use a small ebike around the neighborhood, I got rear view mirrors. ( I downsized to a small 14" ebike from my mt. bike because it was to heavy. My knees gave way twice and fell down.) HTH. Thanks.
Thanks for the like and sub! Great suggestions for added safety gear. I like that you acknowledged it was time to downsize your bike for your health and safety... super insightful! Enjoy your ride!!!
Your weight will be more important because the frame of the bike needs to support you and your cargo. There are e-bikes with all tire sizes that will do the job!
Couldn’t help noticing that when you are cycling you don’t appear to have full leg extension at the bottom of the stroke. In other words you ride with more knee bend that purists would recommend. This is primarily dictated by your seat height. Have you deliberately set your seat height lower than recommended. I’d love to hear your views on this. Thanks.
Good question: When I get on a new e-bike, I typically set the seat a bit low so until I get comfortable on it. Sometimes I forget to move it up 😁 Also, it's important for a lot of riders to be comfortable on an e-bike, first and foremost. We don't always need to ride the way traditional bikes are ridden. If a rider isn't pedaling hard or is using throttle, full leg extension isn't as important. And, sometimes, for shorter people like myself, it takes more work to get the seat just right. We need to reach the handle bar AND the pedals. So if I have to move the seat forward to reach comfortably, my leg extension can decrease. But, I do think, in general, legs should be extended to where there is just a slight bend in the knee when the pedal is at its lowest point.
Safety fail - not one rider here wears hi-vis vests on the road. These riders are mostly wearing dark clothes and black helmets. Riders disappear into the road and can't be seen quickly by motorists. A bright, lightweight hi-vis vest may save your life. You could add a flexible flag too, and a bright helmet as well. Your video sucks on safety - I am over 60 - Who has heard the excuse, "I didn't see them until it was too late".
