Have to agree with tires sizes. Under 30/32 is road. 30- 38 is CX/ touring/ all road/ fast smooth gravel/ mud gravel tire for clearance. 38- 50 is gravel tires for most conditions. Above 50 is MTB zone.
63kg here. I run 65psi on 25mm road tyres, 15-25 on 33mm cx tyres, 10-20 on 40mm gravel tyres, 10-15 on 2.25" 29er mtb tyres. Depending on terrain which can vary from thick sloppy grass/mud, to hard packed small gravel or tarmac.
Watch again, he's in there. Dylan Johnson is very very credible. Alexey Vermeulen says roughly "even though wider is faster on controlled tests, I don't think it's faster in a race".
The old box section rims built with lots of skinny spokes were nice and flexy. 20mm tires weren't uncomfortable. Those aero rims started all the trouble. Very harsh.
I have this lingering question every time the question of tire width comes up. Because the major cycling publications love to tell us "wider is faster" while conveniently NOT taking the mantra its logical conclusion with a test. Because at some point there has to be such a thing as "too wide." Right? Otherwise, you'd probably have pro MTBers racing fat bikes everywhere.
Who is this guy? Seems like he doesnt know what he is talking about. I'm not a gravel expert so can't comment much on those tires but when he talked about how fast 24mm tubular tires are I know this guy is clueless. They are slow in every way compared to modern tubeless tires
