How I'm living 100% off the grid in South Africa using solar panels (12kw Sunsynk 3 phase inverter), Evacuated tubes for water heating and a Paloma gas geyser for hot showers in winter. For water I have a water well or a borehole.
In this video, join us on our journey of Living Off-Grid in SA with our 100% Solar-Powered Home! 🌞 We're diving deep into our transition to a life sustained by renewable energy, sharing real-world insights and expert advice every step of the way. From the installation of a 12kw Sunsynk 3-phase inverter to harnessing the sun's power, to ensuring warm showers in winter with Evacuated tubes and a Paloma gas geyser, we've covered it all. Plus, discover how our water well revolutionized our water supply, making us completely independent.
Here's what we'll cover:
1. The transition to solar power: Learn how we installed 26 panels and the crucial role of our solar inverter in achieving electricity bill savings.
2. Heating solutions: A comprehensive guide on using Evacuated tubes and a gas geyser for efficient water heating.
3. Water independence: How our water well (borehole) ensures a constant, clean water supply.
4. Energy optimization: Tips on reducing consumption and maximizing the use of LED lighting and appliance usage strategies.
5. The environmental and financial benefits: Understand how moving to renewable energy sources like solar power not only reduces carbon emissions but also significantly lowers energy costs.
We're excited to share our comprehensive guide to living off-grid in South Africa, packed with practical tips, installation guides, and insights into making renewable energy work for you. Simple question, what happens if your batteries are full and the pv generates more than what you use, you can't sell back to the grid (net metering), so where does the excess generated electricity go?

I can push to the grid, but I don't do so since it's an externality. It's wasted..this usually happens a on a perfectly sunny day. So after 1330, about 60% is wasted.

@@ElecAndAll Maybe "sell" to the neighbours, if they invest in the infrastructure with battery... 🤫

I Iike how he said "bio gas is not used much in South Africa, is do believe it's much more used in the US" because a US citizen would say exactly the opposite 😂

Lol..depends which state I guess. Methane gas was used since 1990's for central heating.

@@MrBoss-zn5vn no I don't think it's worth it. It will require a fair amount of waste to process at a small scale
