Ultimate Guide To Sheep Care: Feeding, Vaccinating, And Selecting Rams For Scrapie Resistance!

The wrapped hay has cured so today we started feeding it to the sheep for the first time. This is our freshly wrapped hay from this spring which is ready just in time to start flushing our ewes for breeding and for getting our lambs onto some good quality feed to add to their grain and pasture diet. We also continue with vaccinating this year's lambs some who received their booster shots and younger lambs receiving their initial dose. As we take you through the daily chores of feeding the sheep and letting them out to pasture, we stop in the ram lamb pen to theorize about the markers of scrapie resistance, namely QR and RR, as it impacts lamb selection on sheep farms.

The sheep seem to enjoy their fresh hay. I'm so glad that your sick ram is better. Sorry to hear he was shaking. I wonder if he ate those poisonous weeds. 300 sheep are pretty noisy. The full moon iis beautiful. The weather has cooled down here too. The rams look great. 666 is a gorgeous ram. QR vs RR seems pretty complicated but I agree with you. It's too bad about the limping ram, hopefully he heals up soon. It's great that you got those vaccines done. The sheep are quite noisy today lol! I bet your beautiful flowers smell amazing. So very glad Aiden is improving! Hopefully each day ahead will be brighter for him. I will keep him in my prayers. 💛 All the sheep are looking fantastic from their summer grazing and, Arnie, that hay did look like a million bucks. Dear Lyn I always admire how beautifully your garden blooms, and some herbs can also serve against mosquitoes, Lavender, Rosemary, Mint and others. It might be worth trying to plant them around where you're resting. I'm glad your son is better, it's probably going to take some time but I wish him a full recovery. Good evening Arnie and Lynn. Watching late today but can’t miss the episode. So glad the ram lamb is feeling better. Gladiators son is a beauty. Legend makes a visit to the porch. Great to hear Aidan has made improvements! I continue to pray for his complete healing!🙏 Also, good to hear the young ram is up eating and feeling better! He's a great looking ram even after dropping a few pounds. Best wishes that he stays on the mend and gets back to normal. Your flowers are so beautiful!!! my sheep kept bleeting so i gave them apples then they wanted vmore and more still bleating vfound out they wanted to go into christmas tree plantage lots of clover and other herbs

@KS-ip5xn I would have no problem using 666 ourselves. We will hold him back and monitor his development. We want to use only RR rams because it passes on to their offspring more quickly but I think an awesome ram is always priority when choosing between QR and RR
