Have you trekked to the remarkably difficult site of the Stinson Plane Wreck of Lamington National Park yet? In an upcoming video I'll cover doing the full Stretcher Track to show you the route the rescue team took to retrieve the two survivors of this crash...John Proud and Joseph Binstead.

That was excellent, thank you. I'm an ex field engineer, now crippled. I've been to Westrays grave several times many years ago. I'd live to see you hike to the Southwest from Christmas ck. The lost world. At Christmas, ck oval/camp ground if you look at the hill to the east across the ck well on the other side of that hill is a valley allegedly full of many vertical shafts up to 100 ft deep. I don't know what minerals they found, but I'm gonna guess and say gold and precious stones. Are you still serving ? Thx brother. 👍

Hi Alan, thanks for the info about the vertical shafts. I haven't heard about those before... that certainly would make for a very interesting exploration if they exist. Re Lost World, yes, I've got a trip for that planned coming up soon - yes, that is a beautiful spot - it's been a few years since I've been there but I'll certainly take the video camera along for that journey. Thanks for watching, really appreciated! :)

Very informative video. I live on Christmas ck and my family is 4th generation in the scenic rim. It's worth mentioning Bernard's book "Green Mountains" I read it once a year and I believe every Australian child should read it to feel pride in our pioneers. As for the "treasure hunters" who have whittled the wreck down to mere scraps.....let's call them what they are. Theives

Used to have to walk through my uncle's place to see it from Christmas Creek. The snakes used to be plentiful back in the 70s. Needed to watch your step.

awesome, enjoyed your Stinson wreck site bush bash, I now have visited VH-UHH's crash site in virtual reality thanks to you. As an 80yrold disabled retiree, there is/was no chance of going there now,BUT your effort has allowed my curiocity to be satisfied, incidentely in the 70's I was able to drive up a firetrail from Kyogle in my Torana XU1 coupe to a spot at a lookout in Border national Park overlooking the Lamington range & to the east Mt. Warning, I must have been close to VH-UHH then, thetrail sign there said 'Queensland', I wonder, thanks again, keep on hiking you hear, Jim

Hi Jim, I'm glad you enjoyed this exploration to the crash site. That would be interesting to find out where that firetrail was that you drove your Torana upon! Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it! 👍👍

Hello from Montreal, Canada. I read the story of the crash in an old Reader's Digest Condensed Book! The story was interesting but your video made it real. You are an athlete... your forests are very lush and thick, like a jungle. Thank you

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been looking at doing this trail for a few years. But unfortunately due to my health I no longer see that happening. Your video has given me the next best thing. Thank you for virtually taking me there.

This walk has a massive spot in my heart I guided it multiple times both the 36 km leg and the shorter leg for O’Reillys. I have spent hundreds of hours all through that area the forest is mind blowing!! wildlife is second to none for this type of habitats. Stay safe out there it’s hard country! safety gear is a must 🙏🐝🌸🦋

I watched this video before I did this hike and I'm so glad I did. It was extremely helpful as it gave me an idea of what sort of track it was and helped me plan accordingly. The time stamps were really useful and I appreciate your efforts make this video. Also I like the fact you tell it as it is and highlighted the difficulty of this walk which made me not underestimate it. Definitely one of the toughest I've done but absolutely worth it! I've been wanting to visit the crash site for years but wasn't keen on the 33 kilometers or so walk from O'Reilly's so when I discovered this "shortcut" I was like "yep we're gonna do this"! Great video and your channel's awesome, love your style man, and that outro music is the best 👍Cheers.

Really glad the video helped and that you made it to the site! You'll treasure the experience and simply the historical value of making the journey too for a long time to come. Thanks for letting me know, I really appreciate it... and hope you get to explore many other places. Another good one close to here is Neglected Mountain - I've done a video on that - absolutely recommend it and its much easier. :)

This was a very good and enjoyable video, awesome trail and beautiful nature. You know, I stumbled up on your channel by chance, when I was searching for Aussie movies, that movie "Riddle of the Stinson" that you posted got me here 🙂 I just enjoy to see everything about Australian outback and nature. Good one mate 👍

thanks for your reply & maps , yes. it locates where in 1974 I ended up, amazing that I was only 7km from the remains of VH-UHH, not that I realised the historical significance of where I had driven to. I was only interested in the scenery at the time, that day I made it to 'lions rd" north of kyogle as well to watch a long freight train use "border tunnel", interesting weekend up there, I would think Parks having taken over the area will have closed off private vehicular traffic except for themselves of course so your method of ' Shank's Pony' is the GO, I'm too disabled to walk it now so thanks for YOUR video, your map, interest in my comment & your efforts to show Australia to the world, take care, Bye, Jim Thompon

I think the reason for why koala's aren't likely to be in that area is the high level of foot traffic from humans and I do believe wild dogs treck through there...but it's full of drop bears weird huh

Oh! boy.. you hit the nail on the head regarding where most people would lose their bearings hahah! SOB I was turned around today and was walking in circles for I'd say a good 15-20mins... and couldn't for the life of me figure out where I went wrong! I climbed up and down this one section 5 times..@ 1hr3min you said we will be making left hand turn.. I kept turning right "dead end" scrambled up and trails ends lol.. 5 times before I decided to go against my "GUT" and turn LEFT! I was so disappointed the Trail Biscuit was already found lol!
@jelbuilderfilms
@jelbuilderfilms 2 года назад
Lol.... good on you for not giving up! Yes, that is a tricky spot there and many have contacted me previously about turning back right there. The Coaster was gone, geez, and whoever found it didn't let me know. It happens.
@tofuhiker
@tofuhiker 2 года назад
@@jelbuilderfilms Oh no, I was turned around on the way back, getting there was easy enough, but on the return leg I lost my bearing.. I know where I went wrong as soon as I found the trail lol.. It won't happen again.. yeah I spent 10mins looking for the trail biscuit hahaha you have to see the video coming up soon.. it's sad but funny!.

after a google map search the location of the forest rd I mentioned is/was probably unnamed but overlooked Mt Warning cliff face to the EAST & ran south to north for about 1km on the cliff edge & then north/west along the crown of the range past a sign-posted grove of large trees . that sign said " Antartic Beech trees & also a sign saying Queensland at the north edge of the road, are you able to spot where I was? & how far was/is the VH-UHH remains ,I turned back at the Beech tree grove & retraced this forest road back south/west to Kyogle every thing will be different now as I was there 49 years ago, cheers, j

From what you've describe, I believe that you would have been on Brindle Creek Rd which is a dirt track that vehicles can still drive on today. Check out this link I've created for you: www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=12.5/153.0611/-28.3558&pubLink=ua4hVe8y6nLRHLNMFL2BPjSy&trackId=a1a4bdfc-d95a-45de-97aa-1d6dd6e86ce8 This will show you where I think you went - look at the yellow route I created, zoom in and check out the start and end points. There is a remote picnic site there call Antartic Beech Picnic Area with a sign as you've described. To the east of that is Mt Warning. From there around 7km to the north is the Stinson Place Wreck.

Nice one mate, handy info here, reckon I will wait until the dry though after sliding down that mountain on my butt in the mud some weeks back.... Now, can we have next weeks vid as a walk through overnighter from O'reillys thanks 😄 You might have to show us the ins and outs of the Stretcher track too 😎

Love The Trees and Rocks. How were The Mosquitos? I stopped doing those up and back recordings years ago, takes way to much time lol. Nice Fire LOL, what is that powder drink you made? For me getting out in Nature whether I am Hiking or Biking is how I meditate and its where I feel Relaxed.
@jelbuilderfilms
@jelbuilderfilms 2 года назад
Right on, Bat. It's where we feel alive. The mozzies actually are no problem at Lamington National Park, at least not for me. There were none here anywhere. That powder is like the Zip Fizz equivalent given to me by Aussie Post Man Jo-han.... the posties get them here and this stuff keeps them going like a Duracell Battery! As for the fire, it's the only kind the crazy Park Rangers permitted me to light😆🔥
