Just building my Iveco Daily.. have 3 widows to do.. your info and video has saved me 0ver £300 that I can now spend on other parts of the van... awesome info, and no moronic music or equity card antics.. keep up the great work..
Oh wow this is what I’ve been looking for. An easy, effective and reasonably priced blind system for my 1983 conversion! In fact, my kitchen is so bitterly cold in my cottage at the sea without insulation ( built with rocks off the shore over a hundred yrs ago) I’m going to put them up there first. A warm kitchen and practice before I do the same to the van. Thank you so much for all the info. Subscribed immediately. Now to peruse your other vids. 🥳 Sheena
Really appreciate the comment, the track serves two purposes, it stops the blind from swaying and it also blocks any light from coming in the side or anyone trying to look in. Jamie
Amazing! Thanks for sharing, really the best and cheapest. Solves the heat loss problem as well. Also to keep them from moving about I think i'll make the frame with the wood overlapping the blinds on both sides so it slides behind the wooden frame
I have these blinds throughout my house because they are absolutely fantastic. I'd love to have them in my camper van if they did black out versions of them
Nice idea, result and ingenious use of the conduit idea. Everything for campervans always costs 5 times as much and you have a wait time to get them these days.
Just came across your video, what a great idea !! and I even have one in my study just not thought of it lol. I will be using em in my van, Ikea wont know what hit em !!
Nick, thanks for the comment, I strongly suggest you make a stealth visit to IKEA, I made the mistake of telling Karen I was going to get these blinds after she suggested they might work in the campervan build. Took me 5 hrs to buy 3 blinds🤣🤣🤣🤣. Jamie
Fantastic Idea. I think I'm going to try this for a skylight that can't open on a campervan. This may make it super simple and easy to fix in the future as well. :)
@@chriscurl8162 hey Chris, they do them in 60cm upwards. We put small side windows up high towards the back and the 80com fit perfectly but we never wanted windows in the rear doors but they can be trimmed a bit. Jamie
Hi, I first fitted some Lidl blinds which work great but was a bit of a faff. I’ve since seen these in Ikea and have a couple to fit after this trip I’m on. I wish we lived nearer cos I reckon we could’ve bounced loads of ideas off each other. Keep the vids coming. For me doing vids is the awkward part, I rarely get around to it.
Not getting proper YT notifications about comments. always welcome to bounce ideas, two heads are better than one, even if they're only heads of cabbage😀. Hope Croatia is going well with all the lockdown and local restrictions. jamie
To be honest, they aren't far off the camper stuff but not sure the price difference justify the bigger outlay obviously if money isn't an issue the custom ones are better but these worked as a very good substitute. Jamie
Wondering where you will go next with the cladding / panelling as my question is once you have fixed in these items how do you get the blind back out to re fix or renew. ...is it maybe best to build a panel initially to mount the blind/ panel fix all in one as it could well be removed by 4 screws (hidden) incase of removal or any future problems with windows etc.
@@campervancreations7656 I have a vw crafter that has been converted already but there's no blinds in it any suggestions how to fit I could send you pictures
Nice idea but if anything happens to the blind you will have to strip the cladding off the wall to get to the blind, more work than it wort , My choice now its best if you spend a little extra and get the blind on a rail in side in side the window, That way clip off and wash much easier and cleaner
we did a test drive without the conduit and it drove us bonkers after about 5 miles. had to stop and take the blind down. A absolute necessity for it to be a success. jamie
If you do a good job covering the top, bottom and side edges of these blinds, are these blackout? For example, if it’s night and you have lights on inside the van and the blinds are down, can you see that the lights are on if you’re outside?
Hi, they arnt quite fully blackout but close. For complete darkness use the tripvals blind. They're a bit more expensive but are fully blackout. We used these in the sleeping area windows and even with a torch shining on the blind it can't be seen outside in the dark. Hooe this helps
I have these i my van. When you drive the tension spring in the top of them rattles like mad so i fitted a foam strip inbetween the spring .. problem solved.
this looks amazing and a great stylish solution for camper windows! my one concerne is, when your driving along the road, over bumps and such do they slowly fall down??? have you tested them? my client has rear windows and like to see out of them when driving, i want to use this system but if they fall down then will have to make some thing to lock them at the top.
Thanks for the comment. Driven with them and no issues. They are spring loaded so stay pretty much when they are. Even half way down, or halfway up depending on you positivity jamie
Great idea, thanks for the share. I will copy exactly 👍 Can I ask. How's the light from outside the van at night? This would be useless if I urban camp but it's clear that I'm inside? Can you share your experience pls. I may have to pay more for the TRIPPEVALS blackout version maybe?
Hi, apologies for late reply. I've put some info about this in the community tab. But the hoppvals are room darkening blind where as the teippvals claim to be blackout blinds. In my experience, blackout blinds are very dark but I've never tried them as a full stealth setup with no light seem from outside. The trunking I used would certainly prevent any light leaking from the sides. Maybe worth trying the trippvals on the smallest bit of glass you have and check for light leakage with a bright torch, if it worked then buying the rest would be a worthy investment. Jamie
Can these be cut to size? Also could you tell me what size the fixing is. I only have around 20mm between the glass and the frame (metal), and they would need to be fitted inside of the aperture rather than above the aperture. Still they look great
Great job and thank you for the video. By any chance can you tell from working with these blinds can they be shortened as 120 cm is too short for me and 140 is too long by about 10cm.
Thanks for the positive comment. They can be shortened and the method is very simple. Do it really carefully. You can really only do it from one end and the amount you can remove is quite small, I think about 100mm at absolute most. Hope this helps. Jamie
@@campervancreations7656 Thanks Jamie, I have one on order . 100mm would probably get me out of trouble . Is there any thing to let me know which end I can cut or do I just look very carefully ??
This is genius. I like the fact they can be boxed in flush. Is it a coincidence they are the perfect width or did u modify them? Also not seen any action in the van did you get rid of it? Any way i hope you and the pups are ok whatever is happening with yourselves. Thank you for your window one also i got the same ones and saved a fortune
Brilliant stuff glad it helped. The lack of videos is explained in one of the more recent videos but van due back shortly after major engine work. Hope to get starred very soon
Hi there, thanks for the great question. As a matter of fact, the sliding door one was a pain. The fact that the door has very wide corners meant we had ro cut the blind to make it fit. Nightmare, but it worked out in the end. Jamie
Great idea, I have just fitted these to my van, love the blind having trouble locating the correct size of Trunking/conduit at 45mm do you think 38mm is too big? Will the blind rattle around inside 🤔?
Hi, so I used 38mm trunking and it wasn't too bad. If you go to 45mm it will probably rattle a bit but use som self adhesive draft excluder to make the inside a bit tighter and it will also reduce any rattle caused by movement of the van. Jamie
@@campervancreations7656 thanks Jamie 😊 I ordered the 38mm and while I await delivery I've read someone else's advice about silencing the spring, I used felt fabric and stitched it in place. ...bit more permanent and less absorbant than paper.
@@campervancreations7656 I can't find any information for the thickness of the mounting rail and blind itself...Do you have these measurements handy by any chance please?
It is trunking, but not everyone would be familiar with correct technical descriptions of a plastic extruded vessel for carrying cable or air lines or fibre optics. I think, if someone watched the video, it would be fairly self explanatory.
Hi Tony, you can cut and shorten the length but not by much. The spring loading mechanism that allows the to be left in any position goes nearly to the outside edge but if memory serves, about 2 inches either end. Jamie
hey great idea, i was thinking velux style blinds but this works i think better i was wondering if a adaptation if this would work for the windscreen and front windows
Yeah, it should work perfect, we've tried it and have a few options for front and side glass. Will stick a video up when we have it installed. Thanks for the comment. Jamie
Annie thanks for the comment still very happy. Ended up adding the roll tripvals blackout blinds as they were being sold off cheap. All still good. Jamie
They do say that but they can be cut, very carefully but there is not a lot that can be cut off and it's not the most simple of tasks but it can be done. Jamie
Ikeas stuff is low budget, guaranteed to rip the blinds at first opportunity if some idiot leaves the window open but the blinds closed whilst driving down the motorway!
