I just aim mine at my tool box. The tool box is of moderate size. It then becomes the heat source. Works great in a non insulated garage that is 25X25. Takes awhile to heat up though on those cold Wisconsin winter days. I have raised the temp in my garage from 15 degrees to 50 degrees doing it my way. Neat trick you have here though.

There is a small clip of metal on the bottom of the fan that is designed to remove the plate from heat when it gets too hot. The peltier plate that makes the electricity is sensitive to overheating and will fail if overheated. I expect the fans will have a short life without that protection. Unless it simply does not get too hot.

So, I've got the camo 'Hunting Buddy's model. Left it in my box blind last year, at my hunting cabin-which is 3.5 hours from home.....Get to deer camp last November, stock the box blind w/ propane bottles, pee jug, chair, blah blah blah..... I noticed, while setting up the blind, that the Michigan Deer Season digest-which I had left in there from the previous year, was all chewed up by an industrious vole. Noticed it, but didn't think anything of it..... Opening morning, 4 am. I climb into the box blind, open the front windows, and settle in for another morning in venison valley....About 530am, I'm thinking it's time to fire up the heater. New AA in her, so she sparks just fine. I can get the pilot to light, but can't get the ceramic grid to fire. Go through the whole process a couple times....Mr Heater's making some weird noises.... I give her another go. And she finally fires. BIG TIME. Lol, the entire heater bursts into flames. Giant fireball. "SH#T! F+CK! HOLY BALLS!"....I throw the door open, and launch the flaming meteor Mr Heater out of it.... Yep. The vole built a freaking vole condo out of the 2019 Michigan Deer Hunters Digest, inside of my Mr. Heater. So.....Moral of this story. Don't leave your Mr Heater in your box blind

My Big Buddy heater has a built6 in fan and I believe it is a few C cells but thinking of installing a 9volt battery like the square ones they used in the old style flash lights, I can put it where a small propane bottle would be and wire it direct, air flow helps a lot
@krtbrt
@krtbrt 3 года назад
The 9v will not run the fans for long, they don't have a lot of Ah capacity. The best would be to order (3) 18650 lithium cells which will put voltage at about 11v. They will run the fans for hours before needing a recharge.

How far do these fans 'push' the actual heat, and how much heat they also push ? If you stay 5ft on front of the machine, do you get to feel some of the heat ? I'm also thinking, a standard powered fan placed just behind the top of the heater would do the same or even better ?
@CodeBrownProductions
@CodeBrownProductions 3 года назад
A powered fan will always do better and move more air. If your situation allows it I would say go for it. If not then this fan works great because it doesn't need any external power source to function. Also if I had to guess in a calm room you can feel the warm air about 6 feet away. But I really feel the difference on how quickly the fan can heat up a room.

@patsyleeoswald9912
@patsyleeoswald9912 Год назад
There are a bunch of different manufacturers in various configurations, one fan and two, different number of blades, etc. Just search for "wood stove fan" on Amazon or Ebay. They're a little cheaper on eBay. They should work on the Big Buddy, but you just have to be careful that they don't get too hot, because it can destroy the fan's electrical system. Some of them come with thermometers so you can check the temp first. Finding some way to attach them to the heater can be a challenge. Search for "buddy heater fan" on youtube to see other ways people have accomplished that.

@LightfeatherxX

On the Buddy Heater website it says that 1 pound lasts 3 hours on high or 6 hours on low. I generally agree with their numbers based on my experience with my heater. That means if you're running it off a 30 pound tank you'd get 180 hours on low or 90 hours on high, or somewhere around there depending on the margin of error for burn rate

@@CodeBrownProductions heaps of people attach them to computer CPU heat sinks with fans, they can get so cold with voltage applied that they can condense and freeze water in the air, it has 2 ways of working, apply voltage to the wires (usually 12 volts and the wattage is printed on the panel), one side gets hot while the other gets cold, super cold, the second way is in the use of these fans, apply heat with a heat sink, witch is the base of the fan, this transfers heat to the hot side, then the fan housing helps take the cool air away, this then out puts voltage thru the wires to power the fans, depending on the amount of heat transferred the faster the fans will go due to the power generated, the cool side will keep the motors of the fans from over heating, if you put a voltage regulator on it, it could also be used to charge a cellphone at 5volts, that i might make a video about

Hey code brown, how much heat is required to activate the fan? I'm wondering if something like this can be put on the dashboard of a car to push hot air out from slightly open rear window
@CodeBrownProductions
@CodeBrownProductions 2 года назад
It requires a couple hundred degrees to start up. It definitely would not work in a car.

Greetings: "Actually" (new buzz word I suppose), I would like a comparison 2 the single fan version or which Mfr has the most CFM. I notice the shroud tubes R forward of the fans on this 1. I would think there would B more output with the shrouds covering the fans. Silly me. What do I know about aerodynamics..."actually". Thx 4 the share.

Mine is not working anymore but it was my fault. I accidentally dropped it in my shop. You do have to be careful cause if the TEG get overheated it will burn out. Also the wires coming out of the TEG are delicate so they can be pulled out easily. Lucky to buy a replacement TEG is like $20. Easy to replace.

I ordered these fans off amazon. the box says 430 cfm & 1900ish rpms. Yea Right! unless I got a faulty fan, these things ( I bought 2) move NO air what so ever. You can hold a paper towel 6 inches away from the fans, and it just hangs there. Good idea. not impressed with the amazon fans. and there was no "name brand" on the box its self. just do your home work on the fans.
@pouglwaw5932
@pouglwaw5932 2 года назад
I bought 3 thermal fans from Amazon and 1 of them hardly moved any air like the one you got. I saw that it had flat blades with a small bend on one edge- avoid those I guess. No thermal fan will blast out air, but they get the air gently moving and warm up a space, big or small, much quicker.

Do not buy direct from Mr Heater. Buy from local retailers. Mr Heater charges twice as much, and makes returns very difficult
