I bought a Portable Charger RAVPower 16750mAh Power Bank External Battery Pack, works splendidly as a UPS. Powerglitches used to kill my SD card and that is a thing of the past with this powerbank. Highly recommend.
POE powered RPi is a great idea. I need a remote monitor about 80metres from my house. I could incorporate a camera, temperature sensors and a water tank level sensor.
@@DIYTechRepairs One overcharged the battery past 4.2V and the charge rate was maxed out for the cell. Also, that one didn't actually deal with loss of power if powered from a large power supply (capacitors in the PS dropped the voltage too slowly for it to detect a power outage) so the Pi rebooted on battery power. Only worked if I pulled power on the Pi. Another one charged OK, but had the same power outage detection problem. I finally decided to just use a UPS on the mains side. I did have good luck with a SATA SSD Boot drive, but haven't tested with the Pi4. Rumor said it won't boot from the USB3 port, but I haven't tested yet since it's lighting season. 🎄😂
About the camera, yes it could be a fantastic Streaming video or photos into the house. About the PoE ... o so much, specially because it is a power wasting device ...I would leave that only for WAP's/routers that are positioned in place with difficult access to a power line. I do not see a great use case for PoE ..it's more a nice to have option for some very niche applications. Baterry powered UPS ... oh yes, fro sure. About the options for hard drive ...Forget the cheap microSD flash ! There is the danger specially on your model that a power down due to lack of power could damage the flash. There is also the problem of longevity of such devices ... many write cycles will damage the flash . So the idea to use a mSata adaptor is actually paramount for long-term usage ...no to mention you get a Lot More space then any microSD.
You are right. But for POE i think its very good. I run 4 of them here myself and it works like a charm. I can remotely turn them on and off for instance and I dont have to pull 2 lines to the cabinet. The network is enough (Yes can use wireless to but since I have POE everywhere...) Thanks for the comment!
