Did I really build a Robotic Circular Saw? Yes, I did! I created a CNC Saw Cutting Machine. I have a lot of CNC project ideas, but this one made it's way to the top of my list very quickly. I'm totally fascinated with digital woodworking. This won't be last last you'll see of this contraption.
I'm also currently learning the basics of Bridgeport mill operation. This includes acquiring tooling, measuring equipment, and fixtures for work-holding. Banggood (usa.banggood.c...) recently provided me with a Digital Readout for my milling machine, specifically for use in a project video. Instead of a typical unboxing video, I figured that it would be best to put this new equipment to work! This addition to my machine is super useful and completely changes my approach to milling operations and how to drill aluminum.
I also consider this innovation to be another one of my lathe projects, or more specifically metal lathe projects.

Thanks! I wouldn't consider it to be difficult, more like unpredictable. Partially because I've been doing experimental CNC projects for almost ten years. Not that I'm a super expert, but because I fully expect things to crash and break often. In short, my go to solution in this case was to treat it as an engraving. This category of machine Ops is quite simplistic.

Have you considered if it’s possible to mount both tools at the same time and just add or remove the bit or blade on the tool you want to use? (Maybe that wouldn’t be any faster, just curious.)

Hey How did you menage to simulate toolpaths for those 3d Concavities? I plan on using similar setup to yours on a bit more complex geometries.

I use Rhino and RhinoCAM. It does a good job of making accurate simulations. I modeled the subtracted shapes using a disk object similar to the actual cutting blade.

Thanks for asking. Well, as you’ve already guessed, there is no tool profile to simulate a circular saw blade. If you watch the video, there’s a quick clip of the 3D model. Look closely and you can see the spline at the bottom of the cavities. That’s what the saw is following. Basically, it’s a 3D engraving path.
