@phantomofoaktown
@phantomofoaktown 8 лет назад
amen to that brother, these are the coolest arpeggios, most videos do show some crap sounding arpeggios, who gets excited to practice about crap, not me! this is the best video on sweeping, its a lot better than not only all the other you tube videos, but professional ones as well, I spent around 30 dollars on an instructional video on sweep picking, it was an hour long video on a plethora of shit sounding arpeggios, I got bored and frustrated with the lessons and said fuck it, thanks to Josh, I will now practice my ass off on these wicked arpeggios
@nickgrennan1164
@nickgrennan1164 5 лет назад
LLCurrio Sweeps like this can only be obtained with first mastering of 3 sting sweeps... so even though they may seem like crap they are basic arpeggiated triads and that's where it all begins
@saadshah7857
@saadshah7857 3 года назад
@@nickgrennan1164 great advice. When first learning the sweeping mechanics it's best to start slow and work with 2 or 3 strings. Then continue to build on that by adding more strings. Also, legato turn arounds, slides, taps - all that can come later if the foundation is solid.
@daoyang223
@daoyang223 3 года назад
3 strings are super common. I do like 3 string sweeps but I absolutely love 5 string sweeps way more.

I'll go ahead and say that this is probably the best sweep picking lesson on youtube. Because either the lessons are very easy or they are out-of-the-world, this is just about perfect also well explained. Since the people trying to perfect their sweep picking are already good guitarists, they need a slightly challenging lesson to practise and not the way to easy 3-string shit. This lesson is great not too easy and not too hard. Thank You Josh.

I really gotta say that the absolute #1 most critical thing to learning how to accurately and cleanly sweep is to ALWAYS practice it with a metronome. Start slow and slowly bump it up as you go! It’s really done a lot for my learning ! Great video btw it was really clear, informative and helped a ton, thanks!

what Josh didn't mentioned is that you have to mute the open strings either with your palm or your left hand in order to get a clean sound. Although it sounds obivious it wasn't for me when I learned sweep picking and it's also not really easy to do.

I've been playing on and off for 10 years but over the past few years I've been practicing sweep picking most days and I can do it pretty well but adding in that 5th string has been the hardest part. I'm not the best player and I think I'm proof that if you practice something enough, even something pretty difficult, you can get there. Absolutely excellent dude, adding those little slides as a transition between shapes has one of the single most intimidating sounds on the guitar. In the music that I've written recently, I use more hammer-on pull-off leads, but that's because it's what the material was calling for, which is a prime example of me evolving as a guitar player. At certain times, I go through phases where my leads are within the realm of showmanship, and in contrast to that, there are periods of time where I write leads that focused more on what piece is calling for, and now look for a consistent valance between the two, which is doing wonders for the emotional feel, and tone of what I'm playing.

Practice it to a metronome, start off at a very slow tempo and slowly increase the speed every couple minutes. Like maybe go up 2 or 3 bpm every 5 minutes. just make sure you're paying attention to what you're doing the whole time (don't space off) and you'll get it down good pretty quickly. That's the best way to become competent with techniques and build up speed imo.

Great lesson Josh! really appreciate the time you put into doing these tutorials. I've made a lot of progress following your lessons. The addition of tabs for this video is definitely a huge plus. I had a hard time following your finger movements in past videos. All the vids have been great regardless. You're a beast. Cheers!

I just decided to learn sweep picking tonight. After trying the material in about 10 videos, this is the first one that got me close to sounding good. Great vid!

I still watch this occasionally and still can't believe he is a real person. But I saw him do empyreal live last summer in 33 degree heat and he smashed it. Real person, somehow

Thanks for the vid. Helpful. Especially adding that 5th at the beginning. That makes the picking easier.

The clean less distortion part was satisfying. You can hear the pick attacking the strings.
