When I set out to build this bench I focused on three main tasks that I wanted to optimize at this workbench: joinery, sanding, & assembly. By using T-Track, I can take advantage of tons of accessories that will hold project pieces where I want them. With two sliding panels, I have stored my sanding and vacuum hose next to my shop vac. With several large drawers and a sliding tray, I can store just about every other accessory and power tool I need to work at this bench!
This project is sponsored by my good friends at BESSEY Tools! Their quality and product innovation is outstanding. It's also why after buying my first set of K Body REVO clamps I was hooked! If you've not used BESSEY clamps before, give them a try. You won't be disappointed!
Thank you so much for watching & I hope you enjoy the project!

A very nice bench design. I've seen many others on RU-vid but yours is laid out with definite organization in mind. Everything looks clean and fit together well. I like your process flow in terms of assembly. I see that you really like using the dowels or pegs in joining the frame of the bench together. They impress me as providing increased strength to the overall structure. I think my favorite feature is the T-tracks in the top surface. I didn't know what these were used for when I first saw them in another video. But, once I saw their purpose I was a fan. I have no equipment right now but as I begin to purchase more I see why having a bench like this from the beginning will make working in my own space far easier with a dedicated work surface/area. Thank you for this video.

I cross cut plywood all the time on my tablesaw. 2 things are important when doing so, 1 make sure your table top is slick and smooth so its easier to push the plywood through, 2 make sure to always use a sharp blade so you don't have to fight the cut. Great video
@WoodshopMike
@WoodshopMike 4 года назад
Thank you very much! Yes I totally agree. Sharp blades and a slick work surface are important regardless of what your cutting on the table saw, but doubly so when cross cutting!

I really like this build, but I'd have gone with a laminate top. If you have to worry about your surface being damaged by a bearing, then it's not durable enough for daily use. This video is extremely useful for the planning phase of my build. Very similar to what I want to do. I was wondering about a potential change. Do you think that putting a rabbet in the frame pieces would be an easier and possibly more robust alternative to using pocket holes for the enclosure pieces of plywood? I got that idea from Norm Abram.
@WoodshopMike
@WoodshopMike 3 года назад
Thank you very much, I'm glad the video was helpful! You could certainly do a rabbet, but I don't think that it's necessary. My bench is completely loaded down with tools and materials and it has not offered to sag or bow from the load. It is a very solid bench even with the pocket hole joinery and has zero rack when I work at it (even with hand planes, chisels, or routers). Hope that answers your question! Happy building!

No worries! Better late than never 👊 I inset the track from the edge just so that as the edged of the bench wear/get dented etc there's not the possibility of the track being proud of the rest of the edge and being something to possibly dent a project or scrape my hands on. Fantastic work, thanks for making this video. I am making an assembly / outfeed table with t-track at this moment and your ideas are very helpful. Just wondering about the intersections. If they allow for the input of different t track tools, then why is it really necessary to notch out the nice hardwood trim around the perimeter? Thanks for your help!

@WoodshopMike 4 года назад
Hi Tom, thank you very much! I'm not really concerned about the bottom 4x4s sagging, but you could certainly add desire short feet under the 4x4 if needed. The casters I'm using are only down when I need to move the bench. They flip up out of the way when the bench is stationary. -Mike

Why did you attach the stringers to the legs? It will nigh on impossible to get that beast moved if you ever have to.
@WoodshopMike
@WoodshopMike 4 года назад
I did it to make the bench solid. Also, no trouble for me moving around the bench with the casters or other equipment I have in the shop. I no everyone's setup is a bit different, but I've not had terrible moving this bench around. Curious, how would you have attached the stringers?
@randallthomas5207
@randallthomas5207 4 года назад
Woodshop Mike: I wasn’t thinking about moving about the shop. Rather when you change locations. Your bench will not fit in trucks, go through doors, etc. As to how to join the stringers to the leg assemblies: Traditionally it is a through tenon with a wedge. On modern benches I’d probably use a bolt and nut system. Lee Valley has dowel/barrel nuts in upto 1/2-inch thread. Which is plenty sturdy for a bench.
@WoodshopMike
@WoodshopMike 4 года назад
Ah, gotcha! I suppose I wasn't too worried about the logistics of moving shops since in comparison to moving some of my tools, the bench would be pretty easy. Not saying that it wouldn't possibly be troublesome for other people, but for me and my setup etc, if I did move shops out just wouldn't be that big of a deal. Thank you for the info about the hardware though, that would certainly be strong for sure!
