Mike has been playing the guitar since he was 12 years old, and from that first moment his love affair with music and the instrument began. Fresh out of school at the age of 16 he attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and completed a year-long Diploma course.
After finishing the ACM his life as a full time musician began, playing in numerous bands and touring up and down the country playing iconic venues such asThe Shepherds Bush Empire, The Astoria, The Underworld and London’s Jazz Café. He’s also been fortunate enough to support industry legends Paul Weller, Blondie and Katie Melua.
Mike’s session work has led to his working on a variety of projects - from performing with stars such as Ricky Wilson and Diana Vickers, to appearing in many TV shows and adverts. Mike loves being on stage performing, but is equally at home recording in a studio - where he has worked with Alex Von Soos (All Saints, Seal, Atomic Kitten), Mike Horner (The Prodigy, Shakira, Bloc Party), and Mike Chapman (Blondie, Suzi Quatro)

I’m sure loads of people have already said this…but the Nobels is not a Tube Screamer

Have played TS9 and TS-808, both great, but Bad Monkey is my most favorite.

The advantage of the Bad Monkey is that it has a bass control. Tube Screamers can rob bass from your tone so being able to dial more in is very handy.

I have original early 80’s Japanese made TS9 and I got to say that Nobles ODR1 sounds awesome.

Your 805 sounded the best to me--much more open sound than the others, including the Maxon. The Nobles was my second favorite, then the Ibanez. But really the 805 was the only one I liked. But then I like my Tumnus and Klon style overdrives rather than tube screamer type overdrives, so I'm not the best one to judge among tube screamers.

They all sounded good. I thought the Maxon was the best of the tubescreamers. Not as spikey. The Seymour Duncan had a nice bite to it. The Nobels was the most different. It had a great bite to it and a fuller sound to me. Now I'm basing this on listening through my phone speakers while I'm sitting here having my breakfast. I should probably use headphones 😁

The Jacques pedal has option to cascade the tubescreamer circuit, like SRV running 2 screamers basically. Maybe try a "Stevie-esque shootout" and dial the pedals in more. The mid hump responds well to being pushed on some pedals.

Nice vid mate. The two pedals did sound closely similar. If you didn't know, it would be hard to tell. Both were mellow to me, and I don't have a tube screamer, so? A deeper dive into those pedals would be cool. Mix it up a bit eh

The Nobels ODR-1 is NOT a TS and has nothing to do with it. The goal was to get a transparent sound without midrange boost. It was a big mistake to paint it green back then....best regards from the Nobels team

The Nobles definitely going to go up in value now. I have the Ts808 dual drive with boost Which comes in handy. Ts9 has a better sound. There's no wrong one here, everyone needs a little bit of grit and dirt. It would be great if you did the same Video but with fuzzes.
