Was able to get my hands on the very rare s82 Close-Up Lens for the 105mm f/2.4 lens for the Pentax 6x7/67/67ii system. This diopter reduces the minimum focusing distance by about half and creates an even shallower depth of field, resulting in some very interesting portraits and images. This close-up lens diopter for the 105mm is not the only way to achieve a closer focusing distance, extension tubes can also be used.

I am definitely in the "not everything has to hit perfect focus" camp. It is about the emotion that the photo draws. So that shot were you just missed her eyes -- absolutely gorgeous. Excellent work and video

thanks! I've gotten a few photos slightly out of focus like that that I end up really enjoying.

Well it looks like I’ll be shooting in close at 5.6 cause 2.4 is difficult af but 5.6 still looks great. Love the shots

Close-up lenses effectively reduce the focal length of a lens as they add diffractive power. Your 105 therefore acts like a shorter lens on the same extension, whereas the same 105 mm on a longer extension instead of the close-up lens gives a different perspective at the same magnification. Depth of field otoh at these magnifications largely depends on magnification and shouldn't be any different between both solutions.

Great way to make an "equipment video" yet still have an interesting story that's your style. That thing works remarkably well! I'd say it gives way better real world results and is easier to use than extention tubes or bellows. Nice!

Excellent. I use close up lenses and extension tubes usually around the house or when traveling to change things up. I much prefer using 1 to 2 stops from wide open. With the P67, my go to is the T132 with the 150/2.8, 165/2.8 or 200/4 (v1), great combos for portraits.

Very nice. Would like to try some close focusing with the 165mm! That seems interesting.

I've had a handful of diopters for probably a couple years, I should really push myself to use them more

What? a Brae Pentax67 video and no MLU button pressed accidentally ? Am I in the right timeline? Really insane how close you are getting with that accessory. And getting the second roll in focus in a time crunch.
@BraeHunziker
@BraeHunziker Месяц назад
Haha the 67ii makes it more difficult to accidentally hit the switch. I am long overdue for a nice accidental MLU photo though!

They are even harder to find now. You just drove up the price 100%. I have a like new in box s82. Could maybe be talked out of it. Now accepting insane offers.

Alicia was a very good sport to put up with you being that close with the camera. My significant other would have pushed me away after the first 10 minutes. Surprised at the number of good images you got at f4 but the 5.6’s were the best overall. Did you try any other f stops like f8
@BraeHunziker
@BraeHunziker 29 дней назад
I only stopped down to 5.6 in this video. Will likely mess around with some at f/8 and f/11 in the future!

I've been using this kind of close-up lens diopters on the Bronicas (SQ-A & GS-1) and it's quite fun but like you said, stopping down's almost mandatory :)

Haha yeah it really is if you want it remotely sharp. The softer look can be fun for certain scenarios.

What're the advantages of this over the extension set? Thanks.
@BraeHunziker
@BraeHunziker 29 дней назад
Portability, screws onto the end of the lens instead of between camera and lens. Extension tubes have advantages too

@seoulrydr
@seoulrydr Месяц назад
the obvious question - why didn't you use extension tubes? do elaborate as i am genuinely curious. tyvm for the vid.
@BraeHunziker
@BraeHunziker Месяц назад
Honestly, I just thought the fact that this diopter is a bit rare was cool and fun to make a video about. The advantages I see with this diopter over extension tubes is that it's a bit smaller than the set of extension tubes would be so it's easier to put in a filter kit and travel around with. And certain people might like that it attaches to the end of the lens instead of between the lens that way you don't have to take the lens off if you want to take an image at a longer focal length. There's certainly advantages to the extension tube system too though so it can really go either way.
@lightloving683
@lightloving683 Месяц назад
Ease of use really. Close up lenses- diopters require no exposure compensation. Extension tubes do. While P67ii would automatically compensate exposure when using the AE prism finder using extension tubes, the P6x7 & P67 would require manual adjustment. And as Brae mentions, portability.

Bro, I wonder if your model is charging you enough?!? Thanks for the great videos. I just never consider anything below 5.6 but your videos always make me think, like it is kinda acceptable to let the tip of the nose be slightly fuzzy providing the rest is in focus
@BraeHunziker
@BraeHunziker 29 дней назад
Haha yeah she isn't for sure.. Shallower depth of field definitely works well for certain scenarios!
